When I first heard this song so many years ago, I had a very specific interpretation of it. But somehow, over the years, hearing many different versions and especially after hearing an interview Eddie gave about it, I have changed my mind. It used to be retrospective, about looking back at a bad time and getting away from it. Now its more prospective, forward looking to a better day. The music is great, but the lyrics just blow my mind, an immensely powerful song.

This is why Matt Cameron is in Pearl Jam, he's a beast, an incredible driven force full of power.
@julianholland40094 жыл бұрын
santiago candioti echagüe while he is a great drummer, I personally think he’s the worst Pearl Jam drummer. Every other drummer they had had their own original style and creative techniques that brought new depths to Pearl Jam’s music in the era that they played. For example, the No Code-Yield Era with Jack Irons was really experimental and used a lot more polyrhythmic style playing which was heavily influenced by Jack’s drumming techniques. Matt Cameron doesn’t really bring anything new to the table and is a really boring and basic drummer in my opinion. Also Matt tends to play the songs a lot faster live or out of tempo. Pearl Jam’s music is still great with Matt but not nearly as good as the music the band produced with their other drummers in the 90s!

Agree with you mate. We're lucky to have matt
@leonardocorrea49514 жыл бұрын
Are you kidding? I can't listen to RVM nowadays because of him. He killed the song, turning it much more faster than the original version. With Abbruzzesse and even Irons was more heavy and powerful.
@94definicion4 жыл бұрын
I agree with your opinions, i'm just sick of reading comments about drummers in the band. I love jack irons, I think he was the best drummer for pearl jam, I just can't stand people complainign about matt, I saw him live in 2015 and he really changed my opinion, I have only but respect for the man.

I love this band as much as anyone , truly do. Got the high 10C #, dozens of shows every collectible, etc ... but I think 06’ S/T was the last true tour Ed had his voice to pull off the more aggressive PJ tunes. It’s slowly gone little by little since..which I get completely. It’s not a knock on the greatest rock n roll singer I’ll ever witness or will ever hear in my lifetime. Part of why he’s the GOAT is because of how long he sounded great live where others lost it well before him. Disappearing for a decade don’t count either and even those singers can’t match how great he was . The Let’s play Two I thought he was still pretty solid and enjoyable even if not the same on 1/3 of the catalogue. However the last few years , the reality of years of singing the type of songs STBC, DEEP, WHY GO, Animal, Blood, Evolution, this list goes on, it’s caught up. Yeah if he sang Elderly Woman style songs then yeah but he didn’t. This said it’s kind of painful to see that my mighty Superman is human after all . He could still absolutely do his stripped down, folk acoustic solo shows and put on a hell of a show!!! The thing is he loves music and the following for PJ is too great and still growing with new generations every day that they can’t stop. So do we still travel far distances , make trips out of PJ shows etc when his voice is going? Yes I still will cus when your there it’s about the experience and always has been. I’ve screamed n sang along to every song at every show that I have ever attended ( Boston experiment in 03’ I did just sit n enjoy beginning of night 1 . Thank God cus Help Help performance changed my entire opinion of that song) However truth is I literally can’t hear how he “ truly” sounds until I listen to the show at a different time. So yeah people who are casual fans or younger kids can say things on his voice on YT and are correct , but it be like complaining about Nolan Ryan‘s fastball in his mid 50’s. Understand nobody did it better for longer and never will again !!!
