It is a rather peculiar things that. Given the name "grunge" you did expect them to be unbearable but quite the contrary . But I think it might be that the emotional angst of the grunge style allows more genuine emotion in the vocalisation of the songs. I am very new to Pearl Jam. Just found out this year. I missed out.

Eddie Vedder at a show in Seattle, revealed that he composed this piece inspired by a destitute friend he met in those years, who was curiously also called Eddie. He was nothing less than a veteran of the Vietnam War with whom the musician had a relationship and brought him food. One day, after a trip to Europe, he learned that he had died and that his last days had been spent living on a bridge. "He never got to hear this song or know that it was part of it. The important thing is to increase understanding and empathy towards them "

In all of those cases, the lead singer/primary songwriter died, so that’s not entirely fair. Also, Alice In Chains isn’t defunct. They’re still around and touring and making music. Same for STP.

You know, I don't listen to alot of Pearl Jam, but its interesting how they are SO GOOD and the majority of the world agrees that they are SO GOOD that they don't get as much play. Every one of their songs is imprinted in my brain. I would say, they are one of the best bands that has ever existed, and certainly a strange microcosm of what happens when you are SO GOOD that your music becomes so much a part of life that you don't listen to it recreationally.
