“Call Me When You’re Sober” is about becoming empowered and leaving a bad situation. Most people seem to miss the very last line she sings, but I think it’s the most important one.

Lithium is predominantly used to treat Bipolar disorder 1 that has periods of extremes to treat high and low moods alike - from really heavy depression, to mania , hence she is singing both about drowning herself into sorrows and ''drown my will to fly'' which is often how people during manic episodes feel.
@cindyknudson27158 ай бұрын
The medication helps to even out the mood swings. Cuts off the *_extreme_* highs and lows. BUT, for some, there are times it is hard to NOT feel as strongly as they have in the past. To have *their* "normal" emotions deadened.

Amy Lee dated Shaun Morgan (lead singer of the band Seether) for a couple of years. They had a tumultuous relationship and after their break-up he wound up in therapy for his substance abuse and she wrote a song "Call Me When You're Sober" presumably about him. They both had a beef with each other and there was some sniping back and forth for a while. Seether actually has some bangers, "Remedy", "Fine Again", "Rise Above This". Shaun and Amy did a collab song "Broken" when they were still together.
@shaedgirrl997 ай бұрын
Broken had already existed and it was a Seether song. They added Amy Lee later (because they were dating) and turned it into a duet for the soundtrack of "The Punisher" (the Thomas Jane version, I can't remember the year).

In an interview with All Access, Amy discussed the song's concept: "It's a metaphor for numbness. I've known people on lithium, and it makes you blank and it makes you not have a personality and it makes you not feel. The song's about how in love I am with my sorrow. And it's true, and it's what makes me a writer. I get into these moods sometimes. I'm not a sad person, but I want to stay in love with my sorrow, too. The song's concept is to choose to be happy. I want to stay in love with my sorrow, but I also want to let it go."

@@elliswakelam9206 what you want is literally about believing in you and what you can do which is positive... Say you Will is also upbeat and talks about wanting others to open themselves to you, and making other feels the way they make you feel but not in a negative way.... Imperfection is about not surrendering about Amy singing she is there with us supporting us and that people are perfect by being imperfect which once again is a positive outcome.... As someone mentioned, she wasn’t using lithium, but she’s known people who did. One of the side effects can be an emotional numbness. And it’s because of that numbness that some people who are prescribed lithium to manage their disorder find it hard to continue using it. They wind up feeling so emotionally numb that they find themselves wanting to “stay in love with their sorrow “ because at least then they’d be feeling .
@officialHEL8 ай бұрын
AMY LEE is her name. Try LOVE EXISTS - something Amy did as a solo project. Then there's Take Cover (try live from Cooper Tires) - which is more of a diss song, but not sad. Imperfection is very uplifting and ofc Use My Voice - an anthemic power booster of a song.

This is actually a happy song: it talks about letting go of your sadness, a sadness you can't let go because you can lose your essence as an artists; your fuel ("being in love with your sadness"), or how you question yourself about if you actually deserve to be happy for once. That's why the last line she sings softly "I'm gonna let it go"

It's a very deep meaning song. Lithium is a mood stabilizer used for depression and bipolar disorder. It should take away sorrow but she is not ready to let go of it. Lithium doing this by suppress feelings, it puts her in a "cage" and she lossing her identiy, but she resists against this, she try to break out. She has lived with sorrow so long that losing it now would be like losing a part of herself. That is what the whole refrain is about: "Lithium, Don't want to lock myself up inside, Lithium, Don't want to forget what it feels without, Lithium, I want to stay in love with my sorrow." She's fighting with her deamons.

There are a few covers of this song out there, and my favourite one is by Brazilian metal singer/songwriter and all around hottie, Dan Vasc… Dan has 5 Evanescence covers on his channel; Lost In Paradise, released 17th May,2019(130k); Lithium released 26th April 2019(353k); Going Under released 16th March 2019(275k); Bring Me To Life released 2nd February 2019(2.4M); and My Immortal released 19th July 2018(1.3M). Each is well worth the time as he brings a completely different feel to these songs without taking anything away from them, and in fact adds to the poignancy of them. I've always felt this song is about being scared to go on a medication for a mental illness. She's sick of her sorrow but feels like she knows who she is when she's depressed ("here in the darkness I know myself"). She doesn't want to be "locked up inside" by it or forget how it feels being unmedicated, but she knows she needs to be ("can't break free until I let [the depression] go"). Finally at the end she says "I'm gonna let it go". This album was released after her abusive marriage ended, and you can tell she's working through a lot of stuff on it. All that said, Amy's in a much better place these days with a happy family. Most of their newest album (The Bitter Truth) is not as heavy emotion-wise.

But it’s about her feeling good enough finally to be loved and love back. She wrote it for her husband.mthey are still married. She wrote lithium because she was torn between her sad self and feeling like she couldn’t be successful still if she gave that up. The juxtaposition of the band’s dark music and Amy Lee’s angelic voice is what keeps me coming back. The record label didn’t know if it would work - the whole reason for the male singer in “Bring me to Life” is to get the attention of an audience who might otherwise dismiss the band because of a female lead singer. Lots of good recommendations here. One of her/their more recent ones (4 years ago) is “Use My Voice” - a song I’m sure you’ll have some strong opinions on (though I can’t predict what they will be).
