If I'm correct and I think I am, this wasn't pieced together from multiple nights. It was all live just then. But this isn't him going off the dome and making it as he goes. This is a mash-up from many solos that were all done in different songs they put out.

Remember… this is truly a guitar solo. Not the middle of a composed song, with other instruments accompanying the guitarist. It’s just Eddie alone with that guitar. Very rare. Slash does a guitar solo of the theme to the movie … The Godfather. Stunning. Rating guitarist is very technical. The guitar encompasses many generations, genres and styles. Eddie is number one because no one else can do what you just saw. That, said there are icons in guitar history. But… no one like Eddie. RIP Eddie! You took a piece of my heart with you. ❤💔❤️

How he discovered how to get the sounds by altering his guitars which allowed him to play like this, he explains tapping, his friendship with Gibson and Less Paul. I saw VH on this tour on May 17th 1986 in Roanoke, VA. This was pretty much the exact solo he played that night. Only difference I can remember is he was wearing green pants not red that night, lol. I had seen VH in 1984 with Roth and was unsure what to expect that night and was pleasantly surprised with the exception of the shortage of older VH songs in the set.

It is not the volume it is a Tone knob, it can go from electric guitar to mimic acoustic, and lots in between. If it was the volume knob (which is usually on the Amp, not the guitar) his volume would have dropped.
@joepegel
@joepegel 2 ай бұрын
@@theidajawho It was the volume knob, and the volume did drop, in between every note. Each individual note faded in and back out as he turned the volume up and back down, giving it the soft attack and decay (to use the technical term) of a bowed instrument.
@jfree336
@jfree336 2 ай бұрын
@theidajawho It’s the volume knob, it's a common electric guitar technique. Some players like Larry Carlton use a volume pedal for swells, giving the illusion of a bow pulling across the strings. What makes EVH unique is he uses all hammers and pulloffs with his left hand to articulate the notes. Not easy to get the consistency of attack he gets for as long as he does. A master at work

Pegasus Eddie's only child, Wolfgang sort of can play like his father, but Eddie trained him since he was little. Now, "Wolfie" as he known has his band called MammothWVH. His band composed of name of his father and Uncle Alex's band as Mammoth in the 1970's until they realize that there is another band with name of Mammoth. So, singer, David Lee Roth suggested to them use their last name, Van Halen as band name. WVH is Wolfie's initials. Brothers are part of Indonesian & Dutch. Eddie named him after composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Actually, Wolfgang didn’t learn how to play guitar from his father. He just figured it out on his own. He said his father was a terrible teacher. Wolfgang actually was a drummer first, and has said that’s what he enjoys playing most.

Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony also used to put on a crazy, impressive bass solo in Van Halen concerts... That's also available to view. Michael Anthony was not as exalted as Eddie Van Halen but he deserves credit for his great bass grooves and impeccable backing vocals... he's 70 yrs old and currently touring w/ Sammy Hagar on a Van Halen tribute tour in 2024. One guitarist who does not get enough credit for his impeccable guitar work is Alex Lifeson of Rush... He recently put out a project called Envy of None, a pop band fronted by a female singer Maiah Wynne - they sound nothing like Rush... Check out their single "I never said I love you". Another great guitarist was the late Denis "Piggy" D'Amour of Canadian sci-fi metallers Voivod... He could create so many surreal sound effects on his guitar, as well as shredding riffs but he was a shy, introverted character ... He passed away in 2005 from cancer.

I could tell you so much about Eddie Van Halen not only my favorite but loved that band and led Zeppelin my 2 all time favorite bands all time Metallica as well. Eddie built his own guitars as well and many other info if commented on your other video reactions black pegasus keep showing sharing with new people. the way Eddie can make sounds out of a guitar amazing he played guitar for free on Michael Jackson song beat it. and did much more stuff with other musical musicians. I seen them with all the different lead singers as well. such show men so much fun at there shows before and during at concert you could feel the reverb and vibrations go through your body was like you were on a trip except I wasnt tripping then. icon legend .look up there's videos were Eddie did show how he plays for awhile in his younger years he use to hide way he played so people wouldn't copy his style or how to do but later in his career he did interviews and showed crowd and people how he did things shared with the world his talent and skills was very given man funny as hell met him before as well my only regret is not having bought one hs guitars like you could and had him sign it. but do have picks he threw I caught one at concert I was in like 3 rd row. and I do have some autographs stuff like photos and cds wish I had him sign one my records of them. have all band members signed photo Eddie Alex mike Anthony and Sammy Hagar top 5 in no order Eddie Van Halen and Jimi Hendrix at the top, Eric Clapton , Stevie ray that's 4 but there are alot guys I can put tied for 5 and so on hard to say so many id have to go over and look again some careers or lives cut short there's Angus from acdc there Kirk Hammett many more I could name id have to think and look over gain would take me long time ill try and look and give you maybe a top ten maybe in order maybe not hard

He even has pattons on a couple thingd he put together & a couple of his ways of playing them that were unique to anybody until they saw him perform them!! He absolutely loved it!! If he wasn't playing on stage, he'd be tinkering with a guitar! R.I.P Eddie Van Halen!!! You'll always be the greatest, Hands Down!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥💯

CHILLS! Still get them every time I watch this. VH was so good live, especially with Sammy as the frontman. RIP G.O.A.T.

One of his guitars is in the Smithsonian museum. He did an interview a few years before he passed, called what it means to be American. It's on the tube. He explains everything from childhood to how he built his equipment. It's a great interview

Eddie was amazing... and yeah Eruption was a track on one of their albums... Was one of the first "metal" albums I bought to be honest... and I feel deep for the music...

Thank God for music video's ... otherwise the junior generation would NEVER know how good the music was that preceded them... 70's-80s were the BEST!!

Love the reaction! I have seen this live a few times. King Edward had insane talent. This solo was improv, mixed with Eruption,. Cathedral, Mean Street (no one can figure out how to do it right), and many other features. It's a Holy Shit moment, for sure!

Eddie even throws in some classical music into the mix. If you have a good ear you'll catch the section that has "Etude No. 2" by Rodolphe Kruetzer.

My first concert without parents was Van Halen 1982 Denver Co…my bff and I were 13 going on 17 and flirted for a ticket trade in the camp out line lol…we got 5th row RIGHT IN FRONT OF EVH 💕✨ like omg!!! Now I’m 55 going on 17 lol and I still remember it so well…thanks for the great memory! People like To argue about who the greatest guitarist of all time is as if that could be a thing lol so much genius out there and so many names that never even get mentioned lol but one thing that most people agree upon is that Eddie Van Halen is your favorite guitarist’s favorite guitarist! RIP Music Man ✨🤘🏼💕💫 fyi in case no one’s told you, his bumblebee guitar is buried Dimebag Darrell! They were friends with deep respect for one another’s Gift.

Eruption is the name of an instrumental piece by Van Halen, but this live performance is essentially a medley of different guitar solos from a number of different songs. That takes nothing away from how astonishingly good it is.

'Eruption' is a track on the 'Diver Down' album. The solo in this live video has pieces of it, as well as another solo called 'Cathedral' on a different album. The rest is just Eddie shredding. I was lucky to see him a few times... his solo was worth the price of admission. He was a gift and we were lucky to live during his time... kinda like Michael Jordan, or Leo Messi.... He inspired millions around the world to pick up a guitar and try to play, and he also made a number of rivals in the LA / Hollywood scene at the time put their guitars down. There will never be another guitarist like him. So sad he passed not long ago... a huge loss for music and creativity and human inspiration.

Every time I see this I'm amazed. My top 5 guitarists are Larry Coryell (Jazz), John McLaughlin (Jazz), Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, Jan Ackermann. I consider the late Larry Coryell to be the greatest guitarist ever to walk the planet. I saw him live 3 times and that was all the proof I needed. I highly recommend a listen. I also request that you listen to Hendrix's "House Burning Down" (if you haven't already) He was at the top of his game on this amazing song. 🎸

I've had the pleasure of seeing VH during the Diver Down Tour and the 1984 Tour with David Lee Roth up front and the OU812 and Unlawful Carnal Knowledge Tours with Sammy Hagar up front, and it didn't matter who was singing nobody was there to see them. It was always Eddie people came to see and his solos they came to hear, now you've got a really good idea as to why that was.
