The song, as you described it, perfectly fits the film it was used for: Pretty Woman was the story of a prostitute who fell in love. So, yes, there is the 'one night stand element', but there was also...love. The film perfectly encapsulates the main premise of the film--can a 'lady of the evening' play it straight and find love on her own terms?

Roxette was a great group. Marie Fredrickson had an amazing voice. She developed a brain tumor in 2002. She passed away on 12/9/19 after a long battle with the tumor. Man she was amazing. Per Gessle was the male half of the duo and the primary songwriter. He learned the guitar at 16, and I believe he was self taught. This is my Fav music group. some of their other big hit songs were, - Neverending Love - The Look - Dressed for Success- Dangerous - Listen to Your Heart - Joyride - Spending My Time - Fading Like a Flower (Every Time You Leave) - How Do You Do! - Sleeping in My Car - June Afternoon - She's Got Nothing On (But the Radio) Roxette is a Swedish pop rock group, formerly consisting of Marie Fredriksson (vocals, piano & sometimes guitar) and Per Gessle (vocals and guitar). They are the second most commercially successful Swedish act of all time, after ABBA.They sold over 75 million records worldwide. Before coming together to form the duo, Fredriksson and Gessle were already established artists in Sweden. Fredriksson had released a number of solo albums and Gessle was the lead singer and songwriter of Gyllene Tider, a band which had three No. 1 albums. As the group Roxette they've had 10 Studio albums & 52 music videos. Their music repertoire consists of slow song ballads and up beat rock hits. Marie Fredriksson died on 9 December 2019 at the age of 61, having had cancer for 17 years since her 2002 brain tumour diagnosis. R.I.P

Movie aside, I always got the feeling that this was more of a "Divorce" song than one night stand song. "It must have been love, but I lost it some how". You know you WERE in love, you were happy for years, but now you some how lost it, you're not in love together anymore, you're just "together", so it's over somehow.
@goddessunicornboops311Ай бұрын
Your explanations makes sense too . Looked it up it says "This song is about regret - regret over the fact that somehow, you lost your love and now you are lonely, your heart is cold and you don’t know what to do… You wish for him/her to return back to you but it’s too late - all you can do is dream about those beautiful days."

This song was first recorded in 1987 with the It Must Have Been Love (Christmas for the brokenhearted) and was released as a single in Sweden only. Jump forward a couple of years and Roxette was one of the biggest band in the world! While touring in the USA they were asked by Touchstone picture to add a song to their upcoming movie Pretty Woman starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts. Per wasn't fully convinced since Richard Gere wasn't on the A-list so to speak and no one outside Hollywood had ever heard of Julia Roberts. Since he thought no one would notice the movie he send the movie company the original version of this song. They didn't reject it but had some thoughts about the christmas theme since the movie wasn't a such one. Well Roxette re-recorded it and the movie staff loved they did some changes so they could include the entire song in the movie!! It later became a #1 at Billboard!

The original 1987 version was called It Must Have Been Love (Christmas for the Broken Hearted). For the 1990 Pretty Woman soundtrack they changed the lyric from "And it's a hard Christmas Day" to "And it's a hard winter's Day". If you listen to it like that it's more a story of being alone on a big holiday and I think it works for many scenarios, the end of a short or a long relationship. Being left or being the one who left and now dealing with regrets (that may just be sentimental).

She has an amazing voice, like my god the tone in her voice. Arguably one of Sweden's greatest female singers. Unfortunately she lost the battle to cancer in 2019. I think very often people confuse what "Love" is with sexual attraction and desire. Love is the commitment we pledge to ourselves when we care so much about someone that we are willing to sacrifice pretty much everything we have for our combined happiness and prosperity. Love is also the commitment to work through the hard times and not give up too easily. Because we are all human beings and hard times is inevitable regardless of how much we love someone. When we say we love someone it should be something that is very carefully thought through in my opinion.

Roxette is a swedish supergroup (a duo) formed in 1986 by the guitarist Per (paer) Gessle and Marie Fredriksson. Both of them are very talanted songwriters and they had succesful careers on their own before they met and formed "Roxette". Per wrote most of the songs, but Marie also had a big impact. Roxette were huge in 80s and 90s and had 4 No 1 hits on Billboard Hot 100, this song is one of them. It was a soundtrack in the movie "Pretty Woman", starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts. "Listen to your heart" was another No 1 on Billboard. The other 2 No 1:s are "The Look" and "Joyride". They have a whole bunch of hits and Roxette is Swedens 2nd best selling group ever with more than 100 million albums sold, only surpassed by ABBA. Sadly, Marie passed away in Dec 2019 after 17 years (!!) of battling brain cancer. She was only 61y old and left husband and two children behind. Pretty Woman the movie is an adult Cinderella story. You know it's a fairy tale but the actors bring it to life and make you believe, even if for only 100 minutes, that it could happen.
