Great reaction to a great song. It belongs in the Country Rock genre which hit its peak of popularity in the '70s, when Linda Ronstadt was variously known as the Queen of Country Rock, Queen of Rock, and First Lady of Rock. ❤

The legendary Linda does a great job on this Buddy Holly original. Holly was a transcendent figure in early rock and roll. Died in a plane crash at an unimaginably young age. The Beatles name comes from a nod to Holly's group The Crickets. "American Pie" by Don Mclean is a momenti mori to his death, "The Day the Music Died." Please react to Buddy Holly's "Not Fade Away." Buddy played this Bo Diddley influenced song to an all black audience at the famous Apollo Theater in Harlem. More so even than Elvis, he melded black music, rockabilly, and country swing into a potent, energetic mix.

Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris and Dolly Parton formed a supergroup called Trio. They released two albums under the title Trio the first album is what Dolly called old Timey songs they weren’t that modern country from the 60s 70s. And then the second album was also incredible. The three of them are musical sisters. The harmonies are to die for.

Waddy Wachtel on lead guitar, Don Grolnick on keyboards, Andrew Gold harmony vocals, Kenny Edwards (from Stone Poneys) backup vocals and guitar. She had a most talented band! This is Linda rockin'! Her voice always gives me the chills when she belts these songs out especially near the end.If you want more of that, you've got to go find the live versions of Desperado and Lose Again. Powerful!

It's so easy to try to place Linda in a single genre. It's also a mistake. Yes, there's country Linda ("Long, Long Time."). There's early Linda with the Stone Poneys ("Different Drum.") There's Rocking Linda ("You're No Good"), there's just plain great Linda ("Desperado"). Don't forget Mariachi Linda ("La Cigarra"). Opera Linda ("Poor Wandering One" from Gilbert & Sullivan's "Pirates of Penzance" operetta) and Big Band Linda ("What's New" with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra). There may be other Linda's, but this is a good sampling. Willie Nelson said something to the effect that anyone who doesn't love Linda hasn't seen her perform.

She was considered the queen of female rock singers in the 1970’s Listen to classics like “You’re No Good” “When Will I Be Loved” she went on in the 80’ to prove she could sing country (alone or in the Trio with Dolly and Emmylou), Opera (Pirates of Penzance on Broadway and The Movie) Mariachi Mexican Music (React to La Charreada or La Cigarra) and Big Band Great American Song Book (three albums with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra (try “For Sentimental Reasons” or “When You Wish Upon a Star). Or react to her amazing voice in a classic duet with the late James Ingram “Somewhere Out There”.

Hadn't seen those mentioned just yet, so I wanted to throw them in for consideration. If you want to hear her somewhat operatic side, watch her portray Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance w/Kevin Kline and Angela Lansbury. "Poor Wandering One", if you just want to find the clip on KZbin for a sample. She's actually really good friends with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris, with whom a trio was formed to create some pretty spectacular songs, too. Btw...to answer your question- Dolly did write "I Will Always Love You" and sung it first.😉

Linda Ronstadt, like most of us, was a big Buddy Holly fan. Holly, who blazed a bright trail across the country and rock landscape in the late 50s, wrote and recorded It's So Easy in 1958. His death in a plane crash on Feb. 3, 1959 (along with Richie Valens and J.P. Richardson) was immortalized as "the day the music died" in Don McLean's American Pie.

It's originally a rockabilly song by Buddy Holly. Buddy was a contemporary of Roy Orbison, who wrote and sang Blue Bayou, so it all mixes and matches from back in the old days. Linda was the best of her brief time, whether rock, pop, country or conjunto.

Speaking of Dolly Parton, she did a duet with her called I Will Never Marry. Its a beautiful song and their voices pair well together. Also, if you like the faster paced country from this era, check out the song Queen of Hearts by Juice Newton.

This was written and first recorded by Buddy Holley. It is RnR history. Linda covered several of his songs. Buddy was an inspiration to our generation. When will I be Loved is an Everly Bros song she did and in this concert. I saw this tour in Houston. I saw her 4 times. When she did a run at the end of Love has No Pride she gave me goosebumps and on few more too. The guy singing next to the guitar player is Peter Asher. He was in the British duo Peter and Gordon. Paul McCartney wrote a couple of songs for them. Helps when your sister is dating a Beatle. They had several hits. He became her producer. His sister was a famous Brit actress with a lot of musical talent as well. Their mother was a Music professor. Paul picked up a ton knowledge.

My favorite songs of Linda Ronstadt are "The Shoop Shoop Song" with the Muppets and "Silver Threads and Golden Needles." Dolly wrote "I Will Always Love You" as a goodby to Porter Wagner when she left his show to become a solo artist.

I haven't noticed but has anyone not told you to react to the midnight special version of her singing You're no Good? That is a funky song and I love that song! I have young onset Parkinson's and I have always loved Linda Ronstadt and I feel her pain now. I've had it for 13 years but I'm still independent. I love your channel and you make me smile even on days when I don't want to. Thank you so much Pegasus!
