I think the problem with the Peleton ad was that it wasn't her idea to get the bike, it was her husband's, whereas with the gin it's her decision. It has to do with agency - are you acting to make someone else happy, or are you acting according to your own recognizance? The peleton ad would have not had the backlash it did if it was made clear that she wanted the bike, or at least *a* bike, before she got this one, so it would be her idea not her husband's.

But what if she just really wanted a Peloton bike for Christmas? Like if that’s what she asked for, then he’s a great husband for giving her what she wanted. She has a child in the commercial, so maybe she’s had a very long postpartum journey. Maybe this is her self care.
@Loopysoloist4 жыл бұрын
The problem with the controversy is not much information is given in the commercial, so everyone is making up the details to however they see fit.
@phamburg4 жыл бұрын
Mindy Snyder Wouldn’t her response have been more like, “Oh honey, just what I asked for!” Not: “Wow, I’m really nervous, but let’s give this a shot.” If they wanted it to seem like a requested gift, they should’ve filmed it that way. Otherwise, don’t imply that giving your wife exercise equipment for Christmas is a good idea.
@timovandenheuvel95024 жыл бұрын
@@phamburg No because you don't know what her response is. She might've asked for it and still have been nervous. Point being, we don't know and people judge too quickly.
@joshs71604 жыл бұрын
@@phamburg Her response is clearly surprised and excited, unless you think she's faking it. Her nervous comment is because that workout actually looks pretty intense, and this is a woman who clearly wants to both stay and shape and push her limits, she's "changed" in the end because she's more confident from being able to do things she didn't think were possible (or something like that) and clearly has nothing to do with weight loss, ya know, seeing as she was already thin to begin with.
@joshs71604 жыл бұрын
I admit I was confused by the commercial because she was thin to begin with, so the whole "changed" thing seemed dumb to me, but now I realize I was thinking about it in terms of weight loss, which doesn't make sense given how she started out. So, what it's really about is a fitness journey, both to stay healthy and keep improving, and she's obviously really proud of herself for how far she's progressed in a year. But, of course health and fitness couldn't be something important just for her, she has to be doing it for someone else.
