The whole point of a slide is so you can freely slip at an accelerating rate. So if you're engineering a slide and the idea to add a cage *for safety* crosses your mind, to stop you from freely moving - that's the biggest indication the slide is already too dangerous. Don't add something to remove the danger - just remove the danger so that you don't have to add stuff.

The moment I saw that metal grate over the slide I was like, “oh shit-“. Humans have a grab instinct when falling, even in that short video you can see the kid at one point tries to grab the grate to slow themselves down. So even if you’re not accidentally throwing your arm through the grate a lot of people are probably gonna end up with dislocated shoulders and broken arms just from their survival instincts kicking in.

He's absolutely right. I used to love water slides. Right up until I went down one with a huge corkscrew. I had too much speed going into the corkscrew, and ended up on the roof of the tunnel. Only to not have enough momentum to get all the way over, so I just fell from the roof and slammed straight onto my hip. The corkscrew was the only part of the slide that was a full tunnel (the rest was a "halfpipe"), so if for some reason I'd been on the roofing as I came OUT of the corkscrew I could have been thrown from the slide entirely and dropped 50 feet into the parking lot next to the slide (which was on the edge of the park). After that, I swore never again...

I went with my mom, dad and brother and as soon as we reached the bottom after sliding down, the momentum caused me to dip into the hole of the tube and slammed my tailbone into the slide and all I remember after I got off is trying my absolute hardest not to cry so nobody would notice.

5:46 For those interested; the *Euthanasia Coaster* was specifically designed to take the lives of its riders with “elegance and euphoria”, exposing them to a prolonged period of 10g downward force causing cerebral hypoxia; or insufficient oxygen directed to the brain. Riding this slide however, seems to have a high chance for a excruciatingly painful and gory fatality comparable to the ones seen in the Mortal Combat franchise.

My brother my dad and i went on the Verrückt water slide exactly 1 week before that kid died. I can confirm it was the scariest ride i’ve ever been on in my entire life, and not just because it feels like you’re going to take flight on the way to the bottom. As you get to the top the entire building sways back and forth, but the worst part is by the time your at the top (about a 10 minute walk) the rafts are COVERED in duct tape on the seats, handles, and seatbelts. Most of the handles you grip on to are missing and the seatbelts were shit. you don’t want to be the person that chickens out and has to walk all the way back down and ruin it for the rest of your group. Horrible experience and i absolutely love rollercoasters and water slides. Wasn’t fun or exhilarating, just feared for my life. Being scared is one thing, ignoring obvious safety concerns is another. It was only a matter of time before something like that happened. RIP

Veruckt was such a shady deal, employees who had to test the ride daily were often afraid of going on the ride after the first time and thus the responsibility of testing the ride fell on the lifeguard managers who held a raffle determining just exactly who had to risk their necks to see if the ride was safe. So on any hot days you better have been wearing long pants because otherwise your skin was getting peeled off your body like an orange. The tube was completely filled with water with a current pushing you from the starting point towards the other end. You actually had to hold your breath for 18 seconds until you would be able to get to the surface again. I mean it had safety systems installed to be able to drain in 8 seconds but it still sounds horrifying. It has been removed because most people didn't want to go through obviously. The same waterpark has this slide called X-Stream which has a trapdoor that you have to stand on which will open once the staff presses a button, this slide has had many accidents occur in the years that it has been in use.

The owners wanted to rush the building of it so it could be shown in the doc.) The doc has a positive "this is so cool" vibe in its filming but it terrified me as a kid. Just a bunch of morons with clearly no design experience, dicking around with Hot wheels tracks, and going "fuck it, let's just build it and figure it out later." And I was so high up that if I dared move I might fall down and die. I couldn’t ask for help either because, well it’s a slide. Just me and my panic in solitude for a good 2 minutes. Went down a closed water slide, and I was at such high speeds that I had no control over my body movements, so I hit my head very hard on almost every turn and there was nothing I could do about it. Even worse when the lifeguards nearby get on your ass for not going down the slide feet first if they see you get shot out at 55 mph not laying feet first and don't acknowledge that there may be a different cause for the feet first problem and all the concussions caused by this thing.

I remember when I was a kid in Portugal I went to a waterpark with my family and there was this really tall and steep METAL slide, you took up a metal sled and would place it on this machine then sit on top of it, the operator would then hit the button that elevates the part you are on to start you sliding down, I got to the top with my dad and saw as the elevation started the people would like jolt, it just didn't look safe! it's wasn't a smooth transition! all I could think about was my arms brushing against the side, what if i fall off or let go of the sled thing I'm meant to hold onto and well yeah I was like HELL NO and did the walk of shame back down to the bottom! It worked out to my advantage though because some young woman who came down the ride her friend plucked her bikini bra knot right as she was being elevated so once she surfaced from the water her boobs were hanging out for a crowd that was watching LOL! I remember the woman handled it like a champ though and a cheer from the spectators

Instead of fixing the slide they put netting around the top with metal rings. A safety inspector looked at the slide and specifically told them the net design was dangerous. I think this was at Ontario Place or something, but wherever it was they had this whole river with octagon shaped boats crammed full with people on the edges. You rotate it, can kinda guide it, etc. Anyway, see that particular ride had no age or height requirements and no vests requirements or warnings or anything that the slow float along would end in a waterfall. I mean a completely vertical drop into a very wavy pool. The damn boat flipped mid air and almost drowned me. Some fucking idiot kicked me in the nose as the drop/flip started. Charlie's rant at the beginning sparked a childhood memory of mine. So there's this lil waterpark I love that had 2 of this slides, one with a closed top and one with an open top. Being a child I didn't wanna go in the dark closed one but I got around to it and it became my favorite one. One year I slide down the closed one a couple times and felt a raised part that would scrap me whenever I went down. Thought nothing of it. A week later the slides were closed because a kid went down the closed one and his arm got scratched open by that one part. They closed down the slides for the year and the next summer we had brand new slides.

I went down a cart slide in the mountains of Colorado a few years ago. it started raining as we got to the start area, which makes the breaks on the cart not work, but the person running it gave us the the ok to go. as me and my family of 4 over weight adults and 3 small children went down one after another on the 2 lane ride. half way down we realized the breaks weren't working and everyone started panicking obviously. it leads all the way down the mountain, and at the end all of us crashed together. my cousin jumped out of the ride before the end and broke her arm and got a concussion. my step brother, who was going down with my baby brother, was the first down and crashes into the tires ment to stop you incase this happens, but everyone else crashed into the carts sustaining minor injuries. some turns were tight with a "slow down" sign, and when we'd get there we'd have half our cart outside the slide almost flying off the mountain. if we were just a little bit less lucky someone could have easily died.

I rode the Speed Slide at Wet n Wild in Queensland, Australia when I was younger and I got off terrified and shaking. I LOVE thrill rides and water rides, ive never been afraid of any of them for i've always felt safe on them. I was tall and thin when I rode this slide and I went down it normally, didn't launch myself or anything as this one was already quite high and vertical. Anyone who looks up a pic of the slide can see that it has 3 humps and no safety railing on any sides, just slighty raised lumps on either side of you to "keep you in". The first hump sent me into the air, and I landed my back on the railing, knowing that that scared me I tried to realign while still jettisoning towards the next hump as that hump launched me again, this time towards the side where you would literally just fly off.. no net anywhere, just ground and my head went over the side as i caught myself and then went down the rest of the slide. It was like no more than 10 seconds on that slide and it still feels like it was an eternity. No one really saw it or approached me after and I was just exploring the park by myself at that point.. had to go sit down as my fuckin life flashed before me and I ended up slipping a disc. Fuck that ride. And fuck tall ass waterslides.

Back in the summer 2016, I nearly drowned in Aquatica's Breakway Falls. idk if I'm exaggerating, but my first (and only) experience with that ride was the opposite of pleasant. For context, this slide is where they have you stand on a platform and then they drop the floor from beneath you and you go straight down the slide (they DO have a "normal" slide off to the side as an option for those who don't want to be dropped). They didn't allow me to wear my goggles or nose-clamp. They did the procedure where they tell you to cross your arms and legs. I had fun for only the first second until water immediately went into my eyes, blinding me. Water went into my nostrils, leaving me with only my mouth to breathe until my mouth was full of water half a second later. I basically had water go into every orifice on my face. Because of how fast I was going down the slide, the water that went into my mouth was propelled deep into my mouth and I couldn't spit it out until I got to the bottom of the slide. Basically, I couldn't breathe for the whole thing. Not to mention that the first half of the drop is in darkness. So yeah, it's dark, my eyes are full of chlorinated water, and I couldn't breathe. idk how so many people can handle that ride

When I was in middle school I got a job at the county fair, a friend and I were put in charge of the potato sack slide. Part of our job was that we had to put this lube/wax spray on the slide so that people don’t get stuck on it. HOWEVER, nobody told us how much to put on and after about 10 sprays we tested it out - only to find ourselves skipping every other hump and slamming into the slide going mach jesus, i think whatever slide this is probably had a similar situation happen where an employee wasn’t well trained and over waxed it.

Lol reminds me of a scary one they have in Galveston here at our Schlitterbahn is one of tubes where you cross your arms across your chest and jump down like 190*+ ft. The scary part is the slide starts off like 90* degrees flat to a like -5* degree angle that slowly slopes back to the regular down slope. So your back comes off the slide and you are legit 180 ft in the air and you ARENT touching the slide for a solid 1.5 seconds till your back slides back down in contact with the slide. Best part about this ‘tube ride’? They have NO ROOF on the tube so if you shot it fast enough off the initial slide angle you could possibly NEVER reconnect with the slides downslope again. Shits mad sus. Felt like I was gonna die. This ride also wasn’t enclosed and definitely felt like I was hopping off a skyscraper Still rode the ride 2-3 more times to impress my potential gf I brought there lol

Forget the name but they change the colors of the slides allllllll the time so colors don’t work. Maybe it was Faust and Furious or the huge tall one between it before they had a second ‘furious’ or ‘Faust’ slide not sure hard to look up info for the park because they make it over all the time Idk I think you were right initially I know it’s not the rohr! The worst "Field Trip" my elementary school ever took us to 20 years ago was "Beaver Mountain," a badly run, cheap, wore out, barely functioning water park that was nothing but slides with trickling water... and for some stupid reasons they INSISTED we used these foam mats to slide down. Now, using a mat to slide down water is a fine idea, BUT...when you dont have enough water on the slide to keep the mats from hitting dry spots and suddenly catching, sending you ass first down a slide you werent meant to be on without said mat, it ended up with most of us kids actually scratched, angry and in the teachers words "ungrateful." The park shut down 3 years later. It was literally there so rich country club members could leave their kids while playing golf.

My sister and her friends snuck into a park late at night when it was closed. They had the big water slides that you would climb all the way to the top to, and then ride down on water. Because it was closed, the water was turned off. My sister's friend went down the slide without the water, and ended up slamming the back of her head on the slide multiple times as she went down because the water was missing. If someone screwed up during construction, well, I might be the unlucky guy who ends up crippled/dead. With permanent rides, you know that it's been done several thousand times with no fatalities (it would've been shut down). So, my chances of being the first death are dramatically reduced.

I live near a waterpark with the (according to them) longest kamikaze style slides in Europe (115m or 380 feet long slide). Strangely, it's not the most unsafe slide of the park, because it lays on the side of a hill and it's not made with those awful junctures. The red kamikaze, however, almost killed a dozen of people in the last 30 years: it has a hill in the middle portion and if you are too heavy or too fast, tou risk to go over the side and drop two stories directly onto hard concrete and people walking beside the slide. Always hated it with passion.

One time I went on a slide at a local water park in the UK, it was called Armageddon. It was an 80ft vertical drop water slide. After the drop, I was slightly off (less than 6 inches) by the time I was at the bottom. When re-joining the slide I smacked the lower part of my back at what felt (like you say) terminal velocity. It hurt to walk for a week after that. Unfortunately that was about 20 years ago now and this park isn't open anymore, so kids of today can't experience the joy of feeling instant gratitude that you're still alive from a "fun" thing.

I've even gone to water parks knowing they are far more dangerous than theme parks with coasters. Thing is, I'd seek out the especially big and dangerous looking slides. I loved the thrill, the chance of real danger somehow made it more fun, yet I still hate rollercoasters. I followed the Veruckt project as it opened, and even made plans to go there and ride it myself. I ended up not going and it was closed not long later. I totally would've ridden it though.

I've never rode a water slide because I am deathly afraid of all the other circumstances along with roller coasters and seeing Charlie agree with me lifts my spirits up a bit. :)

That slide with the "safety cage" got me so scared when I watched the clip, holy shit that's a 20% safe and 80% injury ratio for sure. Luckily for the kid the go-pro got fucked instead of the kids arm

'Verrückt' is German and means crazy, insane. In my hometown the slide got renewed, but they fu*ked up the fugues. So after reopening, the first two kids who went down, went after each other. The slide sliced off thin strips of their skin/flesh like of some dry aged premium ham!

I’ll never forget one trip to a water park when I was a kid and it was me and two other girlfriends with their moms. And one of the girls split her elbow wide open on the edge of one of the slides. It was gnarly. We ended up going to first aid, urgent care, and then the hospital. And it took forever to finally get it stitched up.

My own water park story: in 2014 I went to our county's water park for the first time since I was a kid with a couple of my school friends. I decided to finally try conquering my fear of heights by trying the 50-foot drop slide and totally ended up regretting it. My ass lifted an inch or two off the slide as I went down and I got an atomic wedgie on the way to the bottom with a bonus enema. I'm never doing that ever again. 😂 And seeing the title, I already knew you were gonna mention Verrückt and I'm glad you didn't show any of the photos or news footage. The first time I saw a news clip in 2018, I had no idea what I was looking at. The second it finally dawned on me what the red stains were was the second time I'd ever come close to fainting at the sight of actual blood.

It was for all these reasons I NEVER went on the ultra tall ultra steep slides where you just go down on your back. I could already feel every bolt tearing into my back on normal slides no way in hell would I risk that shit at high speeds. However those were the only things I hated about waterparks the rest was ok.

Was there at Verukt a week before the accident, and you could tell something bad was going to happen. Even the week before, the rafts were too airborne where I even saw a raft of dudes barely land before the end of the slide.

I went on a waterslide once, and my shorts turned into a thong, and murdered my balls. So when I get off I'm crouched over in pain, and the person working there asked "did you keep your arms crossed?" Like somehow uncrossing my arms would effect my balls
