I think something news stations forget is that kids will cry over ANYTHING. "Kids were crying" doesn't mean a whole lot. When I was growing up, I had a 10 year age gap with my younger cousins, so by the time they were talking in sentences, I was already a teen. I vividly remember a time when they were still toddlers and we came across a man walking his dog. The younger cousin said they wanted to "pet the kitty". I explained to them in a kind and informative voice that it's actually a dog and they started crying and saying "why isn't it a cat?"
@medievalsabre86496 ай бұрын
That's actually a great point tho, like it's not bad for kids to cry, it's very normal I don't know why some people forget this, as far as I'm aware a kid will cry if they get told no, will cry if they accidentally drop a toy down the slide, will cry if they take a trip, and that's OK, because then they can be comforted and taught about how why those things happen and shown how to either A avoid those things, B that whatever happened isn't a big deal, and that C sometimes you just have to accept it- (In reverse order of the things I mentioned) I should know, I was a kid once xd and so was my sister, and my siblings.

I watched it as a teen (back in it's heyday) and I feel like I'm an outlier, because of how many males turned out with a queer identity of sorts or were creepy with it. The reason I liked it was because it was a genuinely good show, with wholesome themes and positivity, and honestly I needed that back then because I sometimes underestimate how much I was depressed back then. I did meet sexualized bronies at that time which I didn't think much about then but now looking back, it's concerning but then again, why was I an outlier? Thank you for sharing your experience.

Exactly that, the vast majority of "bronies" would never or rarely call themselves that, especially to someone they didn't know, because the disgusting, perverted *small percentage* of adults that watched it soured everyone's perception of the whole. Terrible logic. The restaurant made the event to get people to spend money. So parents planned their day around going to the event with their kids, where they would probably buy food and the kids could meet Bluey. Except there was no Bluey, so they just drove to the restaurant for no reason, their kids got disappointed and if they'd planned dinner or lunch at the restaurant it would be an inconvenience to suddenly change your plans especially if you live an hour away. It's basically a scam. Lie and say you have a Bluey to get parents to bring their kids so they spend money for food, but just get a trash Bluey and say it was "for free" so you're free of blame. Very douchy marketing. I have no respect for that.

@PanoptesDreams The show is just really solidly written. It resonates with parents because it covers a lot of the issues and milestones that parents actually go through. Like what it's like to explain to your child that someone they care about is gone, or coming to terms with the fact that your child is no longer a baby, or creating a memory with your own child that you realize must be how your own father felt when he was there with you as a child. It's filled with very real, very emotional, and very cleverly written episodes that entertain kids and at the same time remind parents that you don't always have to do everything right, and you won't do everything right, but as long as you try, your kids will love you and you're doing alright. Even more than that, really. It's difficult to explain. Are you familiar with the game Unpacking? On the surface it's just a game about unpacking boxes and organizing a room. But throughout the game you learn all about their lives, how they've grown, their values, etc. It's truly moving and there's so much more to unpack than you realize at first. Bluey is like that. On the surface it's a kid's cartoon, but beneath that is a far deeper story with real emotion and understanding of what it's like to grow up and become parents. And this isn't just some fanboy ascribing my own feeling onto the show, this is intentional by the creators, and masterfully executed. That's why parents praise the show so much

Just the amount of media coverage about this event is INSANE for what essentially was just a sub par free event for kids. Dirt Dog Hot dogs are hella fire. My 25+ year old best friend watches Bluey, and loves the show. She tells me it's a show that's for both children AND adults to watch! It tackles real life problems and can teach younger kids about them in a soft and nice Bluey way. Like disabilities, such as being deaf and mute. Sign language being used in an episode, surely making many kids feel seen. The miss-carriage episode, my friend told me a little about it and how she cried to that episode, because it was so sad, how the mom was suffering from depression from it, then in the end, they show that it's something you can heal from. She showed me a clip, and although it's too childish for me to personally get into, I could really just understand and tell that this is a great comfort show for older people, parents, and a very understanding and mature way to teach kids! :)

Same. Had a friend show me a few episodes a while back, and sure it’s not my thing, but I can see the qualities you talked about. Plus, I also kinda like old sci-fi movies, and the creators love to throw in little low key references you would never expect. I’m pretty sure I remember subtle nods to Total Recall and Alien of all things. Cracked me up good and was totally unexpected.

Bronies are still around, as an ex brony I see them everywhere still. I know plenty of people still in the fandom, making art, videos, and whatever for MLP even though FiM is over. There’s the new generation of MLP that has its fans, so plenty of bronies migrated to that. I will say that, with the closure of most of the pony conventions, things have calmed down. In general the fandom has tamed a lot, or at least I see less and less degeneracy from it as time has gone by. Kinda sucks that Bluey is now attracting the weirdos, it’s a great show that kids and adults can learn from. But no media is safe from weirdos and creeps, especially children’s media. These are wild times, folks.

As a new parent who popped on bluey, expecting another mindless brightly colored kids show with some basic "A is for Apple" type stuff... I watched it with my daughter in awe at how well written it is with duel narratives: Usually there's a narrative specifically for kids, very easy to understand, educational, "share your toys" type of thing... all the while in the background there's a more subtle narrative surrounding something like "how to teach your child to share their toys" designed for kids to not even notice while the parents learn how to better educate their kids. It's hard to really register how well written it is without watching an episode, but bluey is a cornerstone in our bedtime routine for our little one. I can't speak for those who watch it without children, because unless you have one or are planning to have one in the near future there really isn't much there for you... Kinda like watching a tutorial on how to be a parent without ever wanting to be one, but to each their own I suppose. As far as this situation at the hotdog place goes, it kinda sounds like a few employees wanted to do something to get the kids out of the house by hosting a free event, and had no expectation of how big it was gonna be, then got 💩 on when it ended up being way bigger then they expected. Sucks when things start with good intentions and end with drama.

I'm a single guy who likes all kinds of TV but Bluey just kinda tugs at my heartstrings a bit because its so genuinely wholesome with really loveable characters and great writing, often containing topics that shows I grew up with were too afraid to tackle. A friend of mine who has a degree in psychology and is working on her master's believes the reason why so many young adults like it is because it "re-parents" you, meaning that it teaches you things that most likely your parents never really got around to or wanted to due to politics, religion, or whatever else.

Some friends of mine watch Bluey because from what I've seen, it is just a nice comforting show with well written characters, plus it's nice supporting smth a lot more genuine than shows made by KZbin content farms. I've been watching Bluey with my almost two year old niece, and I've gotta say as an animator myself I'm actually really super impressed with the animation, the look and the voice acting. It's way higher level than you would expect, not just for a cartoon made for kids but just for modern cartoons in general. I don't think I'd watch it by myself tho, not because of any stigma or what random nobodies says on twitter, but simply just because it's still very clearly made for kids, the storylines and writing is very simple (Of course) but I highly applaud the team behind Bluey for the effort they put in (And the studio funding it) because they go above and beyond, especially for a kids cartoon.

It's for kids through and through, but there were subtle jokes for adults as well. As an Australian it was also quite nostalgic as it's pretty accurate to how we live here (I also own a blue heeler dog), and the classic formula of each episode having a lesson was actually applicable to everyone, not just kids. What I don't get is why adults are watching it on their own, and even fighting over it. It's just very strange that they're watching kids shows on their own and making it their personality.

People did do this in the 90s, but thing is people wouldn't care as much. I don't understand why suddenly people have this ridiculous victim complex, acting like letting down their expectations is some sort of assault or attack. When a lackluster """"Pokemon event"""" happened in the 90s, people would just shrug and go somewhere else, nowadays, people act like they were victimised by a horrible, awful criminal trying to steal all their money...... Using an event that doesn't require any upfront payment. Acting like this was horrible enough to need to be featured in the news? It's ridiculous. And people comparing it to the Wonka fiasco are just downright stupid. This had no entry fee, only charging for the food you order (obviously). Saying they "swindled children" is ridiculous when there was no upfront cost. You don't like it? Turn around and walk out. Go somewhere else. You are not expected to pay ahead of time, so you get there, see you don't like it and then get to leave without spending a cent in the restaurant. It's not the establishment's fault that people drove for hours to go to a HOT DOG place. Do people not realise how dumb that sounds? These parents just don't want to acknowledge that they are thick as a brick for doing that, so they act like the establishment is horrible.

literally same thing happened at some ice cream shop next to the restaurant i worked at. small bluey event had people crowding an entire strip mall block from 3-8pm in the heat

Bluey is a great show that covers mature family topics in very family friendly and approachable ways, making entry points for families to bring up difficult subjects and helps show parents different ways of dealing with children. It also displays children realistically, not like mindless little monsters and more like little people learning things. No cailluo tantrums or super long pauses for “audience participation”

but a grown ass adult shouldn't watch it unless they're sped or a nonce.

Bluey is strangely comforting to watch, especially for those of us who had bad childhoods and watch it to sort of live vicariously through the very good family dynamics that the Heelers have, and they tackle a lot of heavy subjects for a kid show that is for adults, it is a rare show that appeals to both kids and adults

Those actual bluey costumes are so expensive I don't blame them for just getting the hoodie/ raincoat version

Yeah fursuits/mascot suits aren't cheap. It's like $1000+ for one easily, regardless of what it is.

Then they shouldn't have marketed it as a Bluey event if "Bluey" wasn't even there 💀

because they know they can make bank off of furries, why sell it for a decent prise when most of em will pay a fkn ton for it

Fandoms for more mature rated shows usually seem pretty chill, but fandoms for kids shows are like so dark and disturbing. And adults being fans of preschool shows in general is just weird unless it’s a nostalgic show that they watched back when they were a kid And I have seen the show a couple times because I have a toddler cousin, I found it generic and dull as heck. Don’t know what the fuss is about.

Personally as an adult who watches Bluey I find it educational! I'm not planning on being a parent but I am in a field where I do have to interact with/be in charge of kids and it's helped with some of the anxiety I have surrounding being in charge of children.

and 5 mins later they probably acted as if nothing had happened. Somehow kids like to cry over the littlest of things, I've even seen a kid cry because her fork was 'dirty' with salad and nobody gave her a another fork for meat.

I got 3 kids and put bluey on for them but end up watching it with them all the time. The quality is better then most kids shows produced in North America and the messages it teaches to kids AND parents are deep. I've referenced the show quite a bit to help my kids understand things. Helping teach: family not being able to conceive, parent quiet time (20 minutes), A.D.D and that I was once a kid plus so much more is really helpful. I think anyone should be able to watch it without judgement, it has so many beautiful moments.
