From an ethical point of view, you are right. But that's not the conceptual framework that narrative is couched in. I don't think it is. I think it shows that we need to wait before jumping to conclusions. Innocent until proven guilty, whether it's a man or a woman. I think this is a good moment for male victims and a bad moment for toxic masculinity because now that a manly movie star has shown publicly that he can be abused by a woman, hopefully people will change their perceptions about men. They can cry, they can be abused, they can be sexually assaulted and no, they don't have to man up and take it and hide their emotions and their pain.
@indya27622 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with you on it makes things harder for women. I have friends who are victims of DV and seeing this whole case was just terrifying for them. Because of her, survivors who come forward must now bare the implications attached to the verdict that women who come forward against powerful men may not only not be believed, but actively punished. Now, survivors will be much more reluctant to come forth about their instances of abuse out of fear of being humiliated and receiving intense backlash. Some, not all, but some men will really take any opportunity to shame a woman and call her a liar. It’s truly horrible.

It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously. I believe Johnny's attorneys succeeded in getting the jury to overlook the key issue of Freedom of Speech and ignore evidence that was so conclusive that we won in the UK. I'm sad I lost this case. The disappointment I feel today is beyond words. I'm heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband. I'm even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback. I'm sad I lost this case. funny thing is that they literally can not both be abusers, atleast not towards each other. the whole thing about abuse is an inbalance of power and control in a relationship. if one is an abuser that is the one who has more power and control in the relationship therefor making the other one not able to be an abuser since they can not both have more control than the other in the relationship

It shouldn't be a loss for MeToo but a gain. It should break the gender bias when it comes to men survivors of dv. We should celebrate that but people say it's a loss because Amber Heard declared herself the figure head of the movement. I don't know any of you but I don't think someone admitting psychical violence should be the head of MeToo. On top of that from a PR perspective the self declared figure head of MeToo turning out to be a liar and an abuser does create a ground for reactionary people to call every women coming forward with such claims a liar from the get go. I just hope these group of people will be a minority and won't be taken seriously and we will hear out the victims, regardless of gender, coming forward. I'm glad this was televised. The people who cared about the trial and the outcome could all see the evidence for themselves to form an opinion. I wasn't completely unbiased at the start, but I like to think I was willing to change my mind according to the evidence presented. We at least saw the same information the jury saw, so it's normal we sided with Johnny as the trial continued. Suddenly, there was a mountain of evidence, not proving AH was abused, but proving Johnny was. Yes, sometimes a victim won't have much photos, videos or recordings proving they were abused. But she did record and photographed A LOT, so in this case, it was unbelievable she wouldn't have evidence of her abuse. And then, the only abuse photos she had turned to be fake or shady. This isn't a step-back for women. This is a huge win for victims and I hope men see this as a good sign: people CAN believe a man is a victim of DV, you CAN come out with your story, you WILL be heard (pun not intended).

Which is why it was important that this trial dispelled all of her claims. If you don’t find help or press charges in the moment, you can’t expect people to 100% believe you once you’re in the position of the jaded ex. It’s just far too common.

It will not hurt publics perception. Abuse is abuse. You just dont go around with a claim-abuse-without-evidence card. Period. If there are anyone who thinks that you can do that, screw those people In fact; people are trying to spin this into the women have lost narrative. Just look at “nowthis” news channel. @@lawlawlaw22 That's just a fucked up interpretation, from a fucked up bunch of people in social media (not the entire world, I'm sure). Anyone with a working brain would treat rape accusations and being an actual rape victim equally horrible because it destroys people's lives. Rape in every sense of the term, accusation or actual is a horrible thing and no one has any right to diminish the damages it gives to anyone.

It doesn’t hurt women. It just shows that the legal system in this case worked as it should, that lying isn’t going to work like it has before in the past. Women don’t and shouldn’t just get a free pass . Equal is equal Unless you lie about abuse, this event shouldn’t effect or frighten you.

I think this is great for women. Amber Heard is being treated like an adult who is responsible for her actions instead of being infantilized and coddled. I think this is a big step towards equality.

Glad other people see this as well. The goal is equal rights and opportunity. Abolishment of presumption based on gender is a very large part of that.

When there are actual reprecussions for people who lie about this stuff, it makes it easier to believe people when they come forward...When women are given the 'believe all women' treatment with no risk of backlash, it's easy to think they might be making something up...When the truth gets out, it's great for men and women who are good people, and it's bad for men and women who are bad people. Truth is good, no matter which gender it supports.

Absolutely. Women are just as human as men. They can be capable of shitty things too. Gender shouldn’t be a defining factor in whether or not something happened or someone gets jailed or not. What matters are the facts and those should be the only defining factors in a court of law

Yess! This is not a "loss for women", this is a win for men and justice. Which we should all celebrate. If anything this goes to show that the justice system doesn't favour women, giving female victims of domestic abuse MORE credibility.

this is a win for anyone who’s domestically abused, men or women. neither gender should be discredited or put down, it should be the abusers. i’m so glad this case has bought light to abuse. hopefully all victims can receive the justice they deserve.

@@madeleine2278 not really, the justice system leans in support of women way more of men, it’s refreshing to a man win a abuse trail, finally. Big win for men today

@@Chadius_Thundercock sure maybe that’s the case! but in reality 99% of abuse cases don’t even make it to court, and justice isn’t served at all. i know so many abusers who still live a normal life, hopefully this case will bring light to abuse for everyone, and allow more cases to be taken seriously. i respect your opinion though :)

I'm actually so glad that Johnny is famous because it means this trial got a lot of much needed attention on a largely unspoken stigma of abused men. Male stoicism IS a harmful stereotype and it needs to be dragged out into the light just like this.

@@boop3260 I fail to see your point or your logic. How does any of that change the fact that the evidence was overwhelmingly in Depp's favor? Not one bit.
