At least for me, it's got nothing to do with change being hard. I just think that Avi sounds more like a punchy slap bass, which I tend to prefer. He could be mellow when he wanted too. Now, we get mellow all the time, which doesn't seem to fit as well in the rhythm section on many of their songs.

Sage Moonchild Honestly their style of singing bass is so naturally different it’s hard to compare in the first place. His is more smooth, light and fluid where Avi’s is more rich, dark and powerful. He can go higher, Avi can go lower. As vocalists they couldn’t be more different.

It's also worth considering that Matt has worked to extend his bass range considerably in pursuit of the role in the group. It takes a lot of work and focus to lower your overall register, and assuredly a lot of time too. He seems very committed to strong and booming bass notes, while holding an incredible consistency to the tone. It doesn't resonate like Avi's voice does I imagine because it's a really low range well outside speaking tone. Matt's shown tremendous talent with the group already and a clear dedication to doing the best he can to fill out the sound. I think it might take a while before we see the same total unity we had before, but everyone so far seems to work great with him. I'd bet that Avi would be proud of what PTX has made since he left.

The more I listen to Pentatonix the more I realize they are a diamond of our time. They are world renown now. They are special. Their history is fascinating. And the thing I live about Pentatonix the most is they are kind and caring. I love great music. I think rock & roll will live 500 years from now, along with the great classical music. But Pentatonix is in a class of their own. I am learning about a cappella music. I haven't found one that touches my senses as much as Pentatonix. I understand music and Pentatonix is special,...and humble. What a beautiful combination. I can't help but love their music. Not many musicians have inspired me as much as Pentatonix. I follow the Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd. I can list many other musicians and groups I love. But, my emphasis here is that Pentatonix belongs in the great musician group. For this person nearing retirement Pentatonix is in my top 3.

I've been Pentaholic since years ago and y-e-s, Avi and Matt does sound different, they're different people afterall. (even me as a violinist can say that when my friend and I play the same song, we have different sound and characteristic to play it). But anyway, for me, Pentatonix remains awesome as usual.
