And now 10 years later, they put "Cher - Believe" in their 90s Dance Medley...

When you think about the fact that only Avi had any actual a cappella competition experience, what they were able to do is even more amazing. And as a child of the 80s, I love this one. And now, I want some pot roast!

Shaun Stockman did call them meat and potatoes, so memory serves well.

@@mariethemagnificent2000 I thought Scott had won a singing contest prior to this?
@mariethemagnificent20003 жыл бұрын
@@Sate12 it wasn’t a capella. He came in 2nd (I think) and he had a country album contract as a teenager. This was a new world for all of them. None of them were strangers to performing so I think that and their ridiculous talent helped. Scott was in SoCal Vocal at USC which was a capella. Kirstie was at OU majoring in theatre.

If memory serves, Shawn is who nicknames them "meat and potatoes" after one of their performances.
@Sate123 жыл бұрын
Shawn was first to use Meat and Potatoes. He even dubbed their names "No longer Kevin and Avi" before the end

He actually said it after three difference performances, officially giving the name the third time.

This one really made them stand out from the competition at this point... I remember watching this at this point and after they did this you just knew they were going to win. They were always a whole other level from the other groups but this one really nailed it for them. I do remember the other groups were super talented and some tricks.... but nothing, nothing like PTX... they really were ready to bring a capella to the forefront.
@elizabethhostetter19463 жыл бұрын
you could see several of the other groups acknowledging that after this performance - one singer was salaaming, others pumping . . .

Would love to see you do the two reactions together (original song/sing-off version)...would be a cool concept. Appreciate you going thru these!

Great reaction! The Trio had sung together for a few years, and it took them a while to learn to trust Kevin and Avi to keep the beat for the group. You'll start to see the difference in the next one, and Ben never slaps them for rushing again. I think you'll really like the next one - can't wait to see your reaction.

They were right to make the switch. Their last performance before this one had been weak, and they weren't ready to take on Cher at this point. But this song was perfect for them. From this performance on, they got better and better each week.

Going through this series is so informative about PTX beginnings and how incredibly much they have matured and improved since then. Makes us appreciate them even more!

The irony of this song is kinda amazing..it's about how TV and VHS killed radio, stuff like radio dramas were all the rage back in the day, Superman, The Shadow, stuff like that..and now? People are sick of TV for the most part and podcast have taken over..complete with like long form program drama like back in the day..we've come full circle in some crazy way back to radio.

PTX is pretty much the only group that is still around from this season. The rest were mostly college groups. Urban Method is not together anymore.

What I get a kick out of what they say about not being able to get "Cher" together ... and now (iin 2021) they absolutely KILLED IT in their new 90's Dance Dance Medley.

Great reaction! The next one is one of my favorites. And I wouldn't mind a double reaction with the original of Kanye if you're not familiar with that song. All the other groups' performances can be found on the same channel as Pentatonix's. If you're interested in what they sounded like, you could have a look (not neccessarily as a reaction, just for yourself to get a better feeling). The biggest competitors were the Dartmouth Aires (finished 2nd) and Urban Method (3rd place). The Aires were an all male college group of I believe 18 to 20 people. Urban Method were a group of 8 with 3 women and a rapper, their style was called rappapella. If memory serves correctly most if not all groups had a beatboxer and bass singer(s), but none were as tight or dubstep sounding as Kevin and Avi.

“Bars” or phrases in music are also referred to as “stanzas” in classic music theory.

I totally hear your critique about the beginning of the song. It's hard to remember they are still brand new as a group and feeling their way. And from here on, everything starts to gel. Btw, anyone who reads music knows that all music is sectioned into bars, so no problem with your terminology. Great reaction!

They did this as a soundcheck before a concert and I totally rocked out to it (I was in the center front row) ...at the end I realized I may have been the only one absolutely dancing (and singing -badly) HARD as if it was full concert mode.😍😍😂😊😶

Other groups had their own thing just like how ptx was said to have a dubsteppy club song vibe. There was a group that featured jazz, and another whose front man was a rapper. Ptx was definitely lauded for their creativity tho, they always pulled some trick or twist to the songs they did and that was their edge. But it doesn't mean that the other competitors weren't very talented as well. The second runner up was definitely a strong team as well, in fact my favourite performance from the season is arguably the Queen performance by Darthmouth Aires

Yes the other groups all had a beatboxer of some kind, aside from maybe one or two. They just weren't as good.
