Not really. My parents rented and struggled. They could only buy a very small home during their 30s, halfway. We barely went on holidays either and I certainly didn’t get any fancy stuff or a gazillion toys. And we were not alone. But I was aware of an increasing demand of luxury. People have 2 cars now. Huge houses. Take away all the time. Deliveries. Clothes you don’t need instead of buying the stuff you needed twice a year, 2 big holidays, city trips, going to do entertainment, having a gazillion subscriptions to streaming services, magazines, sports etc… Not saying the basics aren’t much more expensive but it wasn’t all gold that glittered

I’m 21 and it’s been an EXTREMELY hard pill to swallow that I grew up thinking this would all be worth it, and that “my twenties are best years of my life” and THIS is actually what it’s like.. like the INJUSTICE I feel that I was barley adequately prepared for a world that literally doesn’t even exist anymore can weigh on my soul way more than I should let it sometimes. I find joy and positivity from within, and from the little luxuries I do have around me, like 2 parents, a loving boyfriend, air to breathe, legs to walk on. It could absolutely always be worse. But it’s getting so so difficult to ward off the hopelessness that’s been growing inside me for years now. I started watching the tv show Friends at 14, my dad said I reminded him of the character Phoebe and I should watch it. And that was basically a big frame of reference for me, for what my 20’s and 30’s could look like. Friends, who are ride or die for you through it all, who have a key to your apartment, a job as a chef, love, life, my job would be in the background when I was home, and work would be filled with annoying bosses, but funny coworkers to bum cigarettes off of and spot them at the bar later that night. Clubs with great music. Simple. Straightforward. Tough at times, but that’s life, your pet dies, your tires flat. This shit is NOTHING like I was sold. I have been homeless twice since 18, and experienced so much trauma before I even came of that age, that all the compounding shit that came after was just like… such a rough start. And I’m incredibly resilient, always, but I just wish the world wasn’t like this. I’ll always wish it.

The video around 26:50 made me remember something. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who was told/has heard a parent saying something like "I wanted my kids to have what I couldn't have" or "I don't want my kids to suffer like I did". Weren't our parents working to give us easier lives? They more or less said it, maybe not those exact words, but most parents want their kids to have a better life than they did. But now many Boomers are calling us lazy and entitled, and belittling us for being "too soft" and they boast about how hard their lives were, as though they are almost upset that we didn't have to struggle like they did.
@shanishine383 ай бұрын
It's because high key, they resent their children who's lives are better. It's the, "I struggled so you have to struggle, too, mentality." It's like some parents want the best for their kids at first and then change their minds after the kids are comfortable. After the parents worked 40+ years to support a family, which is what those parents wanted btw, those parents want the kids to struggle too. It's weird. It's like hazing imo.

To the girl in pink: I understand. I am 61 now and can look back. When I was your age, I lived in an apartment with a roommate. I was a waitress at a pizza joint. The days were long. I'd get home late at night. After so many months, I was totally burned out. Exhausted. My nerves were frayed. I was starting to drink too much to lessen the stress and my shot nerves when I got home. It was living hell. This was my first full time job. I had trained as a fine artist but there was no money to be made in that area. I had at first tried for art related jobs but to no avail. I had to take what I could get. To lessen the pressure, I tried a job as a motel maid. The money was less. It was still hell. I looked into the future and figured out that this was going to be life for 40 plus years. No apartment was worth this. I was so tired I did not even clean my place. Like her, I felt a crack-up coming. I quit. My roommate and I got bicycles. We loaded up camping gear and took off. We traveled the length of Massachusetts. We then took a bus south to Ocala, Florida and stayed in the national forest several months. Then we rode to New Orleans through "The Redneck Riviera." There were some of the most beautiful beaches ever. We sometimes camped there. We saw critters and woke up to the sound of nature. We lived off fish we caught and boxed mac and cheese. These are some of my best memories. My advice to you "pink girl," Dump the apartment, dump the job and find yourself an adventure. When you do work, it has to be something suited and satisfying to you as a person. If not, forget it. Be a rebel.

The regular class citizens can make a billionaire business but guess who’s going to steal it from them? The rich. If anything happens to the website or the rules that would affect their content, they would immediately become jobless 🤷🏾♀️ 14:07 oh lol he actually said it. Working online. This 100%. It’s so funny that everyone thinks leaving the grind and “matrix” is to just be a walking advertisement and content creator. I can't even afford things like netflix, I take the risk driving my car uninsured because I can't afford it, I have zero health or dental insurance because I can't afford it... please tell me how I'm living the life? To the young woman at 19:00 lamenting how it is "hard for her to be human" because she is "too aware": you are actually not aware enough. Yes, humans invented street names, systems, laws, and currency. That's actually one of the most naturally human things to do. If you had a child or even worked with small children, you will have witness them inventing games with their own rules. No one needs to model this behavior for children either. The human brain has two co-operation systems--one that reliés on calculations and investigations (i.e., hard facts) and another that reliés on associations and pattern recognition (i.e., quick judgments). Both systems have kept our species alive and enabled the development of civilization. If you didn't have street names, your brain would use landmarks (your brain's recognition system) to geo locate yourself in your environment. If you didn't have money, you would still ascribe a certain value of a good or service in a bartering system. If you didn't know a person's name, you would reference them by the details you did know like their appearance. These developments were made by humans and continue to be maintained by humans because they actually align with the way the human brain works. We can't anymore stop thinking this way than we can will ourselves to never blink again.

The first guy sounds like a nihilist - nothing matters and everything is falling apart. Nobody can see what's in the future but we always have the option to wake up, get through the day, seek out the things that matter to us and then wake up and do it all over again. We have control over some things and zero control over many other things. The woman in the pink top can't say we will never achieve our big break in life because it depends on what that big goal or dream is. It depends on what work we do to get there. It depends on whether we believe it to be possible. On the other side of the coin, we don't have to pursue a goal or want to achieve anything. For some people, waking up and having a good day is enough.

These thoughts and feelings are not new but how you handle it is the difference between the generations. When this generation is old and living on a fixed income with no retirement they will realize what it was all about. Life is not social media, most people are just ordinary so stop thinking something life changing is supposed to just happen to you. Get up and make it happen, what have you done that is so extraordinarily different from the next person? Do something you love that’s as good as it gets.

Idolizing yourself, influence, money, etc especially will never fill any hole or dream. God alone controls all things, relinquish the wheel and seek the truth with his word and the Holy Spirit. The only future is in Jesus Christ who paid the price for our sins, was crucified, and resurrected allowing us grace, healing, and absolute love. The more we accept this, the stronger our collective together becomes. Any empire not built in His name will collapse. The first sign of this is the collapse of families not built for Him. Devil lies, Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.

Becoming barbers/beauticians and owning a salon was popular as well. Opening clothing stores, selling custom tshirts, making homemade products, owning detail shops, window cleaning businesses, etc .. The difference Im seeing is the newer generations seeking mental health help and we should have been going as well. I wish that for one day every worker across the U.S. would refuse to go to work. Shut the WHOLE country down for one day. I don't have any social media presence to make that happen, but if anyone ever organized it IM DEFINITELY IN!!! At 20:47. No, we DON'T need to "restructure" ANYTHING! 🙅🙅🙅🙅 The structure needs to be demolished and abolished ALL TOGETHER! 🔥🗑️ And the girl in the pink hoodie at 22:55, I FELT EVERY WORD she spoke! 💯😢 However, she's wealthy! She has a place to go! She said several times she DIDN'T struggle as a kid growing up. So in other words, she had a privileged upbringing! There's people who haven't! While I feel for A LOT of what she was saying, if she has help and reliable family and friends to fall back on, she could just quit her job and just live at home. Maybe caregive for her parents (*if they're in old age.*) And if she has mental illnesses like she said in the video, she could probably apply for SSI/SSDI. I also agree with the girl at 18:23 and the girl at 0:29! 💯 Also, childbirth should be illegal! You need a license to fish! You need to fill out EXTENSIVE paperwork just to adopt a pet! BUT...when it comes to having sex and reproducing, putting 50% of someone's DNA into a BRAND NEW human that NEVER asked, nor chose, nor consented to be created, nor born in the first place - that's okay??? People have no problem sterilizing animals (*spaying and neutering*) against their will! All to minimize the over population of said species because its not good for the environment! Why can't the same be done for humans?! If its a "human right" to reproduce, shouldn't it be an animal's right to do the same?! Kids are NOT "angels!" Kids are NOT "blessings!" Like, the fact that a person can SELFISHLY bring someone into this world against his/her will, ESPECIALLY when that "someone" didn't choose their parents, nor chose to be here in the first place - that should be illegal!
