Getting Physical with a Tenant

The plaintiff rented a room in the defendant's apartment. The plaintiff alleges the defendant ransacked her room, rearranged her belongings, and even physically attacked her. The plaintiff moved out before something really bad happened. She's suing for a rent refund and security. The defendant explains she was only inspecting the plaintiff's unpacking. In terms of the attack, the defendant insists the plaintiff first threatened her with a pair of scissors.

I was half asleep when I started watching this. I woke up quickly lol. The defendant is not a whack job (not by NYC standards anyway). She knew EXACTLY what she was doing. She just didn’t expect this young woman to push back as hard as she did. I’m happy for the plaintiff and hope she does well in the future. Her rent is probably $400-600 or something like that. She's been only paying a tiny amount, and then charging potential unknowing roommates double, triple, quadruple to live there (most likely illegal), and then making the place so unbearable, they are forced to leave early, and she keeps their money because they "broke the lease." Quite the grifter. If you're into "Sex and the City" there was an episode where Carrie was talking about her apartment. She was paying $400/month for her rent-controlled apartment, but she had spent so much money on shoes that she couldn't afford to buy her apartment from her ex and Charlotte bailed her out by giving her an old engagement ring to help fund it.

That’s horrible and I had almost the exact same experience renting a room from a 63 year old man and his 84 year old mother. They seemed so welcoming and helpful at first and offered to pick me up with my stuff to move in etc. I was told that I’d be dealing with his mother as the landlord and living with him in his house upstairs. He refused to give me a key. So I had to call him every time I came and went. He would lecture me extensively every day on things I needed to work on (in my personal life). He would go in my room when I was at work to “fix the window” or take my garbage out if it had even a piece of paper in it. I was told I lasted longer than any other person and I was there for maybe a month and a half. His mother threatened me and told me that I don’t want to push her like her son did. Who jumped out of the window in my room and died…they gave me 24 hours to move out then refused to pay me the last two weeks of rent back because there was a cleaning fee but they wouldn’t let me clean…they were talking about me downstairs while I was trying to pack saying that my life’s a joke and screaming at me to hurry up because she wanted to go home. So they basically made it so uncomfortable for me there and pushed and pushed until I wanted to leave. I didn’t get a chance to find out who rented before me but I can only imagine what the tenants before me endured. I didn’t realize there were so many seniors scamming and taking advantage of young adults…you have to be a real piece of 💩 to live your whole life and choose to retire by screwing vulnerable people over.
