The People's Court

The People's Court

Жыл бұрын

The plaintiff met the defendant on the bus, took her out to dinner, and they became friends. The plaintiff ended up loaning the defendant money for various things, but he hasn’t been paid back, so the plaintiff is suing. The defendant admits the plaintiff bought her a few things and gave her money, but she insists the loans were a gift. The defendant believes the plaintiff is just suing her out of spite because he has romantic feelings for her, but she doesn’t feel the same.

Unfortunately you have to be careful with lonely people if you’re younger and living a more full life. They can become cloying and needy. However, I’ve always done it out of pure kindness and catholic guilt, not underlying reasons for my own gain. But it does get to be a lot. Idk. She’s a scam artist and she bit off more than she could chew trying to pull a fast one on this guy.

I would’ve loved to know his back story. It seems like he was some type of scientist. He’s educated, well spoken. I know he got laid off and couldn’t find another job. Ended up on disability. It seems so sad that he contributed so much to the world of science. Has some friends in high places. But, is struggling to the point he has to borrow $50 from a friend to lend her. The way the disabled and elderly are treated in this country is truly despicable.

He looks like perhaps he is experiencing some cognitive / emotional health issues. He demonstrates an inability to answer the judge at one point because he can’t not tell the story, not because he is being an arse. i agree. it’s not like the cases where the guy is paying a woman’s bills to be paid back through sex, in my opinion. he seems like he’s just very lonely which can be extremely depressing & was genuinely wanting to find companionship & knew that he could keep her coming back if he kept paying. plus it feels good to help someone out & he could relate to being disabled which is a difficult circumstance to deal with. maybe it’s just my soft spot for nice old people but i just feel so bad for him! he definitely made a stupid decision & hopefully he’ll learn from it

There's a certain level of vulnerability that comes with loneliness. One can fend that off with a part-time job for sure, but especially as an older person, there's all kind of need for volunteering at libraries, schools, hospitals, fire stations, police departments, etc. I think it helps a person feel good about giving of themselves, rather than having to give to some stranger who's willing to "borrow" money you just know they have no interest in ever paying back - especially just having met them on public transportation. This ain't "the good old days". I stopped lending money to even my family over 30 years ago when my nephew asked for tuition money. I just wrote the check directly to his admissions office and called it a wash because I knew he'd never pay me back, and I figured it was a good investment. It turned out that it wasn't because he punked out on school, but that's on him. And my intentions were good, so I just had that money go up to the Heavens, which is all we can expect out of "loans". Get promissory notes, though, if you expect your money back. Peace.✌🏾🙂
@getin3949
@getin3949 Жыл бұрын
You would be surprised at how many places like you've mentioned that will NOT allow you on their premises even as a volunteer because of their liability for you if something should happen to you. Places like a Food Pantry maybe or a thrift shop where it would be a non profit you might be able to volunteer. I've tried this or I wouldn't even be commenting about it. People are sue happy and schools, hospitals, etc...don't want the responsibility of an extra person that is an added liability.

This was not some sugar daddy case, he was not some rich, business type guy who was going out with some blond 22 year old. This was simply an old, sad, poor and lonely man that didn't receive the same kindness that he was giving. He can easily meet women his age or slightly younger and be loved. He fell into her trap and he had no chance against her.

I enjoy solitude. I feel sorry for these type of people, They can't be alone and happy. They're soo desperate to find love, they'll compromise everything within their soul just to have ANYBODY next to them. I just can't fully understand it. They feel they're less than a person for being alone. It's truly sad to watch these people.

He tried to buy his way into a relationship which is coercive by its own merit. Even if he had succeeded in doing so those relationships only last as long as the money does.
