Good assessment! I’ve been modifying mine - can’t wait to get out there! (For much improved comfort on seat I’ve used a seat cushion pad and a “gel” seat cushion from Skoosh). So far so good. Have a great season 👍

I have a Perception Manatee 9.5 which is almost the same, just slight little differences. I'm wanting to trade my Manatee for a Sound. I love these boats. I don't fish though, I just go adventure kayaking. You can view my adventures on my youtube channel lol. Thanks for the vid, and I'm buying that same stadium seat now because of it.

welcome & thanks! I watched some of your vids and you're definitely a kayak explorer - you really do some amazing river trips (nice cats too). I really appreciate the Sound, 9.5 as it has a rare mix of features for a shorter yak. I actually spend most of the year on a Hobie Revo 11 fishing inshore ocean... If I was to pick only one sit inside for exploring I'd go for one of the Hurricane Aquasports, Delta Kayak or Eddyline thermoformed ones. They have the same light weight hull and tracking as the Sound, but are going to paddle much much faster.

How did you mount the pad eye front and rear for the anchor trolley? I've got a Hook 10.5 and I'm not able to reach the rear in order to mount pad eye. Also, did you need to remove the original anchor trolley or does the Sound not come with one?

The holes behind the seat are not rod holders, they are oar holders which is why they “didn’t work”, but you did a good job modifying them to suit your needs.

Oh good question. Pure paddling the access 11.5 was best. Greater speed. Tracking in both is about the same. The sound 9.5 could maneuver much much better though, but was noticeably slower. Fwiw, I sold the access years ago and upgraded to hobie pedal kayaks. I kept the sound and still use it in small ponds.

Quick question what size of pvc pipe did you use?

That was 1.5” pvc schedule 40, but the exterior width was too wide for the built-in rod holders so I had to weld the 1.5” it with an even smaller PVC pipe to get it to fit in at a decent depth. I think I got that smaller pipe in the kitchen sink aisle the drain pipe that would go underneath the sink… But hey before you do any of that take a look at this mod I did, where I basically cut existing rod holders out and replaced it with legitimate ones. Yea pretty much the same here in 2021. I lucked out because west marine was closing out inventory that December and had a silly sale, years before the pandemic supply chain shortages were a factor

Did you happen to keep the front foam block in yours? It's so loose...I'm just trying to decide if I should just remove it or not 🤔

I did, actually threw some more foam in the back too. Just in case it ever flipped it would help displace some water

Your video was a big help! Love fishing off that boat, and yes, that seat is the most uncomfortable ever! Definitely upgraded that after my first 6 hour trip. Hahaha.

Your my hero for dealing with 6 hours without a cushion. Crazy isn’t it because it looks comfortable. Btw, I checked my front foam and it’s glued in place…. Probably just bad quality control - you can probably just wedge it in hard or use double sided carpet tape to secure it. But I also have a hobie revo 11 which is stupid expensive in comparison and one of the rear foam blocks is flopping around .. so cost of the yak doesn’t seem to matter on these details

Yeah that foam piece is weirdly shaped, lol, so it's giving me some trouble on even getting it wedged back into place. 🤔🧐 Probably gonna grab that carpet tape, haha I don't see any other way that sucker will stay in there.
