I've aced many tests. From the ASVAB to high I.Q. tests. And it's more about a deep understanding rather than memorization of facts. I was never in college, but I'm guessing that college presents a serious problem. Mainly lack of time for studying. Especially if one has to work.

I think society wanted employees knowing just enough to do their jobs good enough. Colleges have been changing to suit entrepreneurs more. But they mostly prepared students for jobs that didn't require innovation, with the exception of engineering and a few fields. That was back during the industrial revolution mostly.

A simple example: If a child memorizes that 8+5 =13 but doesn't know why, then the child may pass a test, but if the child deeply understands why, the child will be endowed with the ability to not only ANSWER the problem, but to SOLVE the problem and many similar problems with ease.

Before doing that, try researching on specific tasks/skills for that job that you really want, and practice interviewing/working hands on with similar items that used in the work environment(youtube and google's your friend). Lastly, learn to write a decent resume/letter cover before you apply for "that job." (brotip: look for "A family owned company/thriving for 2-5 years in the business"=less chance of background check)

X101Andy There's a difference between doing well in school and being smart. I know tons of insanely stupid people with 4.0 GPA's because they work really hard. Don't get me wrong, being a hard worker is important, but in no way does it reflect intelligence.
@X101Andy11 жыл бұрын
***** okay and reading some pointless english passage and answering questions on it does? everyone has different interests in reading topics and in college you'll mostly read stuff related to your major. I for one prefer scientific passages and have a really hard time understanding politics and humanities stuff. Also the fact that english is my 3rd language doesnt help..Does that make me dumb? should i be denied the privilege to go to a good school? 80% of the admitted class in my year had higher scores than me but i see a ton of people with great work ethic but they do badly because they just dont understand the material.
@kevinaud646111 жыл бұрын
I mean it doesn't necessarily make you dumb, just like a good score doesn't necessarily make you smart. However, a much higher proportion of those with high scores are smart than the proportion of those with low scores who are smart which gives it some sort of statistical credibility. Obviously it isn't a perfect system and it does have some error, but it's better than having no system as you suggest.

+Luis Delgado No it definitely isn't. Life is much easier when you have a degree. Better money, better hours, no labour, more respect at work.

You guys are all stupid, school itself isn't even important after middle school. Just because you graduate college doesn't mean you are guaranteed to become successful right after. Some of the most successful people either didn't go to college or went but didn't finish it because they realized they where wasting there time. Education isn't needed in order to become successful we where just raised to believe that.

+Luis Delgado Go find a homeless or unemployed person and ask them how important education is. Also, the people who dropped out of college were already educated and had ambition. I.E. Bill Gates dropped out of HARVARD not a community college. Those people are outliers due to their ambition. Unless you have personal experience in not going to college and being successful, you can't generalize an entire population based on a handful of people.

sure, the sat may be a breeze for him, but clearly, for people like this kid, the real challenge is being a compelling and sociable person.

4:05 Can't the host dress a little nicer? She is dressed like she is going to the club dancing, not doing a news show conducting an interview.

The SATs are easier now than they used to be. They have practice exams now that have most of the legit questions on the SAT. All you have to do to be good at taking the test is to continue to take a few of the practice tests to know what questions will be on it. Most teachers now teach their students the exact stuff thats on the tests, unlike in the past where you didn't get taught questions that were on the test.

colleges look at where your high school is located. socioeconomic status and the course load available along with high school rating. The SAT isnt about how much you know, its about how well you can guess and eliminate answers. this is very impractical because most good jobs involve applying knowledge not eliminating it

I'm in G10, I hear so many people say grade 9 is nothing.... 99% say "Grade 9 is nothing" That is EXACTLY WHY the 1% get perfect on SAT in the future.

now to get that much in scholarships you have to have extra curricular activities. this kid got lucky. he probably just went to school and went home lol. anyone can do that.now colleges look at what you do outside of school and sports really help

Absolutley they are. I am an Indian. I had both a tiger mom and a tiger dad. The lowest GPA that I have earned was a 4.00. 4.33 was the highest. If I were to bring home a "B" in any assignment, I would get beaten; hands, feet, belts, coat hangers, electrical chords, cable wire, switches, broom handle, you name it I had it. I am now in my 30's with 2 masters degree and am very successful in life all thanks to tough parenting.

(Assuming you are not being sarcastic) Yea, College Board does not give scores lower than 600 if I remember correctly. You can score a minimum of 200 per section. Even if you score negative points they will bring it up.
