Reconnecting Sephardi from my fathers side. I have been wanting to learn some authentic recipes. This looks so delicious.

I'm half Turkish Sepharad (father's side) and half Welsh (mom), born and raised in the USA and I appreciate this so much. I'm pregnant with my first child and I can't wait to show them the food of our ancestors. I have so many memories of my father cooking, food was truly sacred and holy to him.... that's not an understatement as my family have been Kabbalists over 500 years. I can smell like yesterday the sigara borek at my Tia Elisa's table. And the contrast of salt and vinegar with shepherd's salad with feta and fresh parsley. I can hear the mixture of Ladino, Turkish, French, and English my dad and my aunt would weave, with the tiny glasses of tea and milky Raki.

What a gorgeous, perfect meal! You could even make it pareve by using Impossible Burger vegetarian "ground meat" if you want. My heritage is Sephardi too (via Italy and North Africa), so I especially appreciate these recipes (also the atmospheric music in this video).

I’m nonjewish but worked in a Hasidic school for about 15 years. My coworker used to buy me humus from the pomegranate store in Brooklyn when she went shabbos shopping for the week. It was the best tasting hummus I ever had. Wondering if it was possible to do a video in how to make a humus like that.

Just found out I’m Sephardic so this is great. I’ll substitute lentils for meat. I do miss listening to Jamie tho.

I was thinking "Impossible Burger," but lentils sound like they'd be a great option, too. (I agree, Jamie is a delight and it's always great to see her cooking!)

Nice music but no narration or ingredients listed. Not very helpful. It was so fast that I couldn't make out what you were making. Too bad. It looked good.

Too fast and no narration. Too bad.

Sorry to say but that is not Sephardi food. It is Levantine or Mizrahim food.

Why not make a video explaing and naming ingredients by mouth instead of this quick showing. Maybe someone searching for his sefardi roots will want to make it.

So it's basically a Berber couscous? Stop appropriating our cuisine and call it yours. It's embarrassing. As a north African berber I'm sick of both Arabs and jews who feed on our culture and history and call it theirs.
@marioncapriotti15142 жыл бұрын
You know something? The whole idea of "cultural appropriation" is just wrong. The joy of human cultures is, we can ALL appreciate ALL of them, learn from them, help to develop them and spread them around the world! To you, as a North African Berber: Welcome to world history, where your culture and history can be shared and appreciated by Arabs, Jews, and everyone else on Earth! If you feel your culture's contribution is not appropriately acknowledged, just say so -- I bet you that Jamie Geller would be pleased and proud to acknowledge the North African Berber influences in the recipes she posted.

@@marioncapriotti1514 it's not about that, many people from different races cook couscous and it brings me joy seeing them enjoy it. What triggers me most is people appropriating our cuisine and call it theirs. And i disagree with you on this point. Culture appropriation is very real. I'll give you an example, If Nigerians started wearing kimono and call it theirs or started suddenly calling Sushi a Nigerian dish Japanese people would be also very upset. So no I'm not that open minded if you're gonna cook couscous or any other north African berber dishes do it but don't call it yours.
@user-ow1qs7jo7f2 жыл бұрын
@@marioncapriotti1514 Jamie Geller didn't acknowledge anything and it's not "influenced" by north African cuisine IT IS NORTH AFRICAN BERBER CUISINE. You're literally trying to gaslight me lol
@marioncapriotti15142 жыл бұрын
@@user-ow1qs7jo7f - So, you are saying Moroccan Jews are not North African and their cuisine doesn't "count," somehow?
@user-ow1qs7jo7f2 жыл бұрын
@@marioncapriotti1514 Couscous isn't a Jewish dish, they didn't bring it with them when they cam to north Africa. Couscous is a berber dish . A quick Google search would fix your ignorance. Key word Berber. A whole different ethnicity with different culture, cuisine, clothes and traditions.
