Shepherd's Pie Recipe.The Ultimate Comfort Food
Ingredients:
For the Meat Mixture:
500g minced ground meat
1 large onion, chopped
3 garlic cloves, chopped
3 tbsp olive oil
3 tbsp flour
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp dried rosemary
1/4 tsp dried parsley
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 cup chicken stock
1/4 cup carrots, chopped
1/4 cup peas (fresh or frozen)
For the Mashed Potato:
4 large potatoes
1 tbsp butter
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup cheddar cheese, grated
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1 egg yolk
Directions:
1.Peel and quarter the potatoes. Place them in a medium pot, cover with water, add a teaspoon of salt, and bring to a boil. Cook until tender.
2.While the potatoes are cooking, heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add chopped onion, garlic, and salt (optional: 1/2 tsp ginger paste). Sauté for 2-3 minutes until the onion is soft.
3.Add the minced meat and cook until no longer pink, about 5 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, dried rosemary, and parsley. Add tomato paste, chopped carrots, peas, and flour. Stir and mix well.
4.Add chicken stock, bring to a simmer, reduce heat to low, and cook until the sauce thickens, stirring occasionally.
5.Once the potatoes are tender, transfer them to a bowl. Add butter, milk, egg yolk, salt, pepper, and cheddar cheese. Mash until smooth.
6.Preheat oven to 400°F (200-220°C) for 10 minutes.
7.Layer the meat mixture in an ovenproof dish. Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the meat.
8.Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the mashed potatoes are golden brown.
