Now, I’m just a normal guy who likes working on bikes; I’m not a qualified mechanic but I’ve spent a lot of time working on bikes and most of the servicing you see is directly from the manufacturer workshop manuals. I like to show you interesting things you can do and that I’ve done with my bikes, but I can’t promise you that anything I show you will work on your bike as not everything is always exactly the same. Be careful not to harm yourself, anyone else or your bike and always be aware that if you have a warranty then changing or working on your bike can invalidate it - they do love an excuse not to have to pay out. If you have any doubt then talk to a qualified mechanic or engineer and make up your own mind.

Hi... Do you consider a iridum NGK sparkplug an upgrade or just replace the bosch stock one for the normal equivalent NGK one? Thanks ❤😊 any problems regarding iridium spark plugs on this bikes???
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 4 ай бұрын
Ah there is a can of worms. The iridium fanboys will get very passionate over this. I've only ever used stock and I've had no issue. Iridium is a good upgrade and there are no particular issues (there will be a failure rate in any part and attention seekers and Iridium haters will blow those cases up out of all proportion), but equally the cheaper stock part does it's job perfectly well. If you are upgrading the bike parts then typically most will go Iridium but I seem to recall that Grey Area KTM only recommend needing it when you use the thinner head gasket - don't recall exactly the point when their advice changes.

Yes, it's a good idea and one I highly recommend, but you must choose your dyno carefully as it will only be as good as the operator - and some are really bad. My Sportster was on the dyno last year and I plan to have the Duke on it once I have made a few more changes to see how well the autotune really works.

Hi, PT is for people who know how to tune bikes. Fuex Pro is for people who know how to tune bikes. By this I mean that they have training, qualifications and experience - not that they have watched a few videos or they have friends who think they know how to tune bikes. So your choices are FuelX Lite or RapidBike Evo - depending on how good you want the map to be, Lite is the entry level system, Evo uses more sensors so is more likely to give a more accurate map. Both work for your situation. But if you want to buy Pro or Pro+ then go ahead but start saving in case you need someone to rebuild your engine.

@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 2 ай бұрын
@@stevesmcfpv2614 Yes it does. But you need to think how that autotune works. I has 10 'maps' which are effectively AFR targets - so they supply different levels of fuel. So it 'autotunes' to that fuel level. But how do you know you have chosen the right fuel level? You might have chosen one that supplies too much or too little fuel. With the Lite, the unit can adjust to whatever it needs. If you have chosen a 'map' on the Pro that is too lean for a part of the rev range, the Pro is prevented from adding the right level of fuel by the limit of the chosen map.

Thx for info I have a 390 Adv Just installed FuelX Lite, and K&N filter, if I add the DNA air box Lid. Will the Fuel X lite be enough to compensate for max air intake ? Also, I’ve heard the Coober Foam type air box lids can disintegrate and clog up the throttle body Is this true ? Thx
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius Жыл бұрын
I see no reason that an airbox foam would disintegrate - they are designed for exactly this use and will not be compromised by any petrochemical normally used around bikes - fuel or oil - in dirt bike use they are often oiled. Now put a bit of random foam on there and.... who knows! Yes, the FuelX lite designed to do that job according to the manufacturer - but as per the next video at some point you will run out of fuel injector so the fuelling device can't compensate when you exceed the physical capacity of the bike to deliver fuel.

What about an after market air box or air box delete to cone filter?
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 11 ай бұрын
Not many aftermarket airboxes about. You could build one, but not sure if worth the work - nothing especially wrong with the stock box. You can replace with a cone filter and there is the Chimera conversion which is popular. But, mostly cone filters are for track days or for looks - there is no waterprotection which can and does block them leaving the bike broken down in heavy rain. Airboxes are used by all vehicle manufacturers for a reason. Chimera self describes their conversion as a cold air intake - but I don't really see how this is possible given the location of the filter .

I am new to the KTM world having just purchased a 2022 KTM 390 Adventure. By replacing the stock air box cover with the filtered cover from DNA, won't you be allowing air into the engine that is less filtered? The increased flow is excellent, but isn't less filtration (especially off-road) going to eventually cause issues?
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius Жыл бұрын
Yes, there is always a trade off in improving performance - if you are racing off road then winning is always worth the cost. For the road use of a Duke it's less of an issue, for the Adventure you might choose not to use higher flow like the DNA but consider the foam filter lids instead.

@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 11 ай бұрын
@cmcravo Lite doesn’t try to emulate setting six. Six bumps the whole map up by a fixed increment, so some parts of the map will be right, others not right. Lite works as Aututune to what RD thinks should be the safe AFR range. But it’s only an entry level system.

Filter should be fine so long as you've done nothing else. Stage 2 filter lid and I'd recommend a piggyback. If you choose something like the FuelX Lite or the RapidBike Evo, they are plug and play, so no messing with the electronics. There is some disassembly of the bike required to get to the connectors, but it's easy enough and you just unplug and remove when you want to return the bike to stock. The bike will run just like it did before - some countries you can up the rev limiter with the RB Evo, and you have no worry about the fuelling being wrong.

@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius 10 ай бұрын
The manufacturer says that it is enough for that. The issue with Power Commander and PowerTronic units is that they run fixed maps that really need to be setup for your bike - they come with some stock maps but they are really just base maps - they won't automatically be correct for your setup and where you live. PC do sell an autotune module to overcome this.

Not trying to be a hater. I like your channel very much. But, I don’t really understand why you would shell out for a power commander, a DNA filter, modify your airbox, or run a slip on or delete the cat on a ‘cheap’ 44 bhp bike? Surely the gains will be minimal and you risk making your bike run poorly by tinkering with the fuel ratios. Why not just save up for a more powerful bike??
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius Жыл бұрын
It's a good question and one often asked. There is a massive car and bike modification market out there that caters for the insanely popular hobby of making 'pointless' modifications to vehicles where that money could be 'better' invested in a more powerful vehicle. Does it make sense? No, generally not, but that typically applies to every hobby from golf to train spotting - why people are willing to spend hours walking round a golf course pulling a bag of golf clubs that easily cost more than my Duke, I don't really 'get' - it's not an efficient form of exercise. One of the problems with bikes and cars is that even this 'cheap' 44 hp bike is more than enough to break every speed limit in almost every country. Yes, you absolutely can buy a more powerful bike but that just means you go from utilising 95% of the power on the 390 to 10% of the power on the 1290. I suppose the simple answer to your question is that this hobby isn't for people who are saving up for a more powerful bike - it's often for people who could afford a more powerful bike but choose not to. As to the running poorly - yes, but the reality is that these bikes run poorly from the factory - the fuelling is absolutely not what KTM would choose for the bike, it's what KTM can get away with whilst still meeting emissions regulations.

@@MotoMirius Sorry, just saw your reply. Appreciate your well thought out answer. I do get he whole 'modding/enthusiast' scene, and I also understand it's an emotional hobby so logic doesn't always apply. I guess the best way to see how much difference your mods to the 390 have made would be to Dyno it, you could then have the fuel map fine tuned to get the optimum ratio. Is that something you have considered?
@MotoMirius
@MotoMirius Жыл бұрын
@@yahoodlums I've often considered putting it on a dyno. Partly curiosity as to how much if anything has changed, but also just how well a map the Evo has built. Maybe this year I will. But probably I will swap the Evo unit for the Race version and then do it.
