Osmosis Wright I mean they are flowers and obviously need sunlight to grow but it's not like because they're sunflowers it's impossible for them to grow with little sunlight. And it's also definitely not the reason they wilted that quick. I mean, they turned to dust.

*commenting before i watched the vid so excuse me if they talked about it I like to think that this ep was a metaphor for her relationship with Lapis. "Even if there was nothing we could do for that one patch of land, theres still a whole Earth blooming all around us" I supposed to be about how Peridot still has so many more people she can be happy with. That Lapis leaving isn't the end of the world, and she should try looking for a healthy relationship with other people, like Pearl, Garnet, Greg, and especially Steven and Amethyst, both who stick by her side and have tried their hardest to make her happy in her depression. "That dirt doesn't care how green your thumb is." The dirt is Lapis, who, despite everything Peridot did to make sure she's happy, still left for herself. Peridot has to stop trying to form a healthy relationship with someone who only looks out for herself and occasionally Steven. Peridot gives sooo much just for Lapis' comfort, but we have never seen her try to act like a friend for Peridot. That dirt just doesn't care. Her relationship with Lapis (platonic or romantic, idc) is just not healthy for her at all. All she does is give, all Lapis does is take. I thought this episode was amazing. It managed to make a deep message despite the fluffiness going on.
@notrealnamenotatall24767 жыл бұрын
I couldn't agree more! Peridot and Lapis' relationship was clearly unhealthy, but I really didn't notice the possible metaphor until reading this.
@Mrmarleykitty7 жыл бұрын
You're Reading My Name, Aren't You? Yeah, now that I think of it, Peridot and Lapis may have had a somewhat abusive relationship. It seemed as though Lapis cared about Peridot, but not nearly half as much as Peridot cared about Lapis. I also agree with your point that Peridot only gives, and Lapis only takes. Peridot learned a lot about how to act from Steven and Amethyst. Her character completely changed. She's a really good example of a developed character, and I would argue one of the best I've ever seen. Lapis always acts on her own accord. She is very stubborn and doesn't want to change. She chooses what would be best for herself. She lets her past define who she is. Peridot, on the other hand, thinks about how other people feel before she does or says something. She's still learning, and she knows that. If she messes up, she wants to improve. She doesn't let her past define her at all. The two characters are complete opposites, but they seemed to be a good match. Though, it seems as though Peridot cares too much about what Lapis thinks of her. As seen in the episode "Raising The Barn", Peridot purposely withholds information from Lapis because she thinks that Lapis might get upset. Lapis always tells the truth, but she doesn't consider whether or not that would hurt someone she cares about. I don't think their relationship is done, though. On the contrary, in fact. Gems in Steven Universe often retain qualities of their real life Gem counterparts. Rose Quartz is compassionate, and real life rose quartzes represent compassion and kindness. Pearl is very motherly to Steven, and to an extent, Connie, and real life pearls represent maternal instincts. I read that peridots are very beneficial in helping to cure mental illness, providing emotional balance, dissolving emotional tension, attracting love, calming raging anger from inside, reducing stress and helping to rekindle friendships. This sounds a lot like Steven, actually. And who do we know that learned a lot from Steven? Peridot, and she might play a vital part in making Lapis change her mind. Some people might think that it's a good idea for Peridot to move on past Lapis. And maybe she should. But I believe that we haven't seen the last of Lapis. She's bound to come back. And Peridot's bound to tell her off for it. But Peridot might be able to help Lapis, just like Steven helped her.
@yourereadingmynamearentyou36997 жыл бұрын
Purple Pyro I agree with you completely! Though Lapis and Peridot are in bad terms right now, they're definitely going to resolve one day. I just hope Peridot makes a stand against her nature of putting people before herself. She has to be selfish once in a while too while Lapis learns to be more empathetic. This arc is going to be great for both of them.
@Aego3847 жыл бұрын
Purple Pyro You really raised a good point. Also, let me point out that Lapis may suffer paranoia or PTSD. She is terrified of Homeworld. All those other times she always warned Steven and the team to not put a fight, or look for them fused as Malachite. Yet they all managed to triumph over it. Lapis may not realize her true potential at all, the Earth has a lot of water, she has an advantage against Homeworld. She fears that she might be trapped in a mirror, or worse, corrupted, cracked or even shattered. But she may have forgotten that Steven healed her Gem and he wouldn't leave her behind. She also never seemed to think of the Crystal Gems as full allies/friends, we know for sure she "isn't like them" and still blames them for the war and her trapping in the mirror, especially since they never released her from it. She at least may know that Yellow Diamond is insane, but maybe she doesn't know the state of mind of (possibly her) Blue Diamond who would attempt anything to stop YD from destroying the remnants of PD's legacy. But she also immediately became afraid of a non existent war and out of nowhere decided to take her home away all for herself so she would be safe, not thinking of Peridot or Steven's feelings. It might be true she has paranoia, but she could have just checked in with Garnet daily and she would tell her if a war is coming with her future vision. Her character hasn't developed significantly ever since she moved to the Barn and I think, she might become a second Lars.

You're Reading My Name, Aren't You? Thanks! 😊 I agree with you as well. Peridot is a very well-written character, and she has a LOT of potential in the story. She already said that if something happens on Earth, she wants to be there for it. I'm so glad that she hasn't lost her love for the Earth after everything she's been through. Hopefully she'll have a huge part in whatever's coming next.

I'm actually glad in a way peri got hurt cause it sows she still has a loot to learn about emotions. I feel she put to many eggs in one basket when it came to living with Lapis. When she opened her heart up to Lapis and got rejected she exclaimed that she should've been rewarded for her emotional admittance. This shows that she still needs time to understand how feelings work and how not everyone is going to act or react the way you want them to despite your opening up. I won't excuse Lapis but she is also will come around too. Also she's great that at least Peridot is comforted by her Shorty squad buddies even after her disappointment. Shows real character development for her and i love it. Plus she's in the bathroom again, which means she's near everybody again so now she isn't as out of the loop anymore than when she was at the barn allowing her to be more involved with the Gems and Beach City. Removing the barn entirely is a great plot device and setting for Peri.
@madicoyle95037 жыл бұрын
Darius Dudley II I totally agree with the part of Peridot living back in the bathroom being a good plot point, this will mean she becomes more engaged with the team in general rather than being shoved into the barn and being stuck babysitting Lapis (Or sucking up to her, I have a theory on that). I believe it will take Peridot a bit of time to get out of her rut of missing Lapis, but that's also more development on her character. There's chances her friendship with The Crystal Gems in general will grow, this includes the Shorty Squad as well which will be very prominent. I'm just looking forward to seeing more Peridot again like back in Season 2.

My personal thoughts, I think something is still incubating in the kindergarten. That’s why all those sunflowers were literally sucked dry after they were planted. I found that very suspicious because even if you hit plants with weed killer it takes days for it to wilt and die like that. Because of the depleted resources it’s possible that whatever is still in the ground is taking longer to emerge like Amethyst did.

Take note- Smoky Quartz made a unique brown bubble. Normally they would make pink or purple respectively. This means other bubbles, such as a Rainbow Quartz color, can exist if the opportunity arises. Pearl could do something and need to unbubble the last Rainbow Quartz bubble to uncorrupt it, but wont do it because it represents the end of their fusion. Get on it fanfic writers. And credit me for the concept :P Also, I am beginning to REALLY empathize with Peridot. To the point of being in a very similar situation.

I don't see why it couldn't have been both. I've had my garden wrecked by boars overnight (RIP baby cherry tree, you never grew big enough to bear fruit) and I have no doubt that a corrupted gem can cause a lot more damage than some overgrown pigs. So, the damage tally for the sunflowers is thus: 1. Hostile monster stomping around 2. No nutrients. The soil they added while planting wouldn't have been nearly enough to sustain that many sunflowers when the bottom soil is that arid. 3. Way to little water. They used goddamn squirt guns. Squirt guns. To water newly planted sunflowers in what looks like a desert (or at least desert-like) landscape. They were probably some 200 gallons short of the amount of water they really needed to get the soil moist all the way to the lowest roots and negate evaporation. 4. Little to no sunlight. It's a fucking ravine they'd need some hardy plants to get anything to survive there even if everything else had been optimal which it clearly wasn't. Those sunflowers were doomed.

As an autistic person I identify a lot with peridot and honestly if they redeem lapis and ship her with peridot I won’t be able to watch this show anymore. It makes me so sick how lapis fans expect peridot to fix lapis and take her emotional baggage. This is literally how my abusive ex treated me and it was terrible. She always made it sound like she suffered some great trauma in her past, refused to talk to me about it at all, and then would scream bloody murder whenever I did anything she didn’t approve of. I really hope this show doesn’t teach children that being friends with people and loving them will fix them because honestly that’s exactly how you get trapped in an abusive relationship. You want that person to get better so bad and you love them so much that you will do anything for them and end up just enabling them. Most abusive people have been abused. That’s a very sad reality . However anyone that justifies hurting others because of there pain is abusive. As someone who has suffered abuse I will say it’s hard it’s so hard to not take that pain out on others but at the end of the day if you let that anger and bitterness consume you you will become an abuser yourself. It sucks buts true.

Reposting the theory I made from the summer Posted in some comment sections and on Reddit Posting what is important to the episode Lapis of course won't be gone for the whole show, but what is she was? What if we never see Lapis again. How powerful would it be to see someone who we have known since season one disappear, it would also give a life lesson. When someone leaves in the real world, they don't always come back. I do want Lapis to come back, she is one of my favorites form the show. This was just and idea I had. However I don't want Lapis to return to during the final moments were the Gems are about to fall only for Lapis to show up to save them. I would want Lapis to return at a time where home world is not attacking. That way we could have a full episode devoted to seeing the effect of her return. I do think Lapis abandoning everyone will bring Peridot to full crystal gen status. It's clear she considers herself one, but I feel like this is the arc where she could get her Star and maybe move out of the barn. It would be a massive reminder about Lapis and her betrayal. Also that means Pumpkin would leave with Peri. I could see them moving into Steven's house. When Lapis returns ( odds are she will) I would love to see a scene where she lands in from of the barn expecting to see Peridot, but she will find it abandoned. Ah would then have to fly to Beach City, and have to confront all the Gems. I expect Lapis and Peridot would be intacting similar to how Garnet and Pearl were a few Season ago. Although Steven would be forgiving I don't think the others would be, especially Peridot.

We'll definitely be coming back to this one. Not only were the sunflowers way too wrecked to simply have been planted in infertile soil (that might easily have been done by the monster of the week) but we saw a pair of eyes in one of the exit holes while they were fighting the gem monster. What I’m wondering is why didn’t the sunflowers grow? Yes, it’s been established that all life was sucked out of the earth there. SomeDumbGamer You have to wonder why nothing has grown in the Kindergarten despite millennia of rainwater and wind bringing in detritus, leaves, seeds, possible animal remains, enough to begin a natural partial restoration based on whatever collected in the crevices...but according to Amethyst there's been no trace of life since she emerged. Whatever process that produced Gems not only destroyed the ability of the stratum to support life, it's preventing anything from growing even if the base material came from outside the Kindergarten.

"The Kindergarten not being able to grow plants anymore wasn't very realistic." 1. It's a facility that literally sucked life energy out of the ground to make magical, sentient gemstones capable of generating solid holograms. I'm not sure that qualifies as realistic, either... 2. There are plenty of minerals that are critical for sustaining plant life. If any of them were depleted, local flora would be SOL.

The flower was blue and green/yellow and was pretty at first but there was a big ugly monster attached to it under the ground. We also know now that Peridot will avoid saying things to upset Lapis and that when Lapis makes up her mind about something Peridot feels like she has no choice. Lapis also said, "this is different, Steven is IMPORTANT..." She is very blunt and will say hurtful things without considering how it could make someone feel. I'm not great at writing but the point I'm trying to make is that their relationship is not as perfect as it first looks and I wonder if this time apart will allow them to grow more. Peridot will be stronger and better at being honest with Lapis whereas Lapis will learn to be more open to the feelings of others. I get it, no one else considered her feelings for such a long time and she needs to heal but that doesn't make it okay for Peridot to have to walk on eggshells around her. Not saying this happens all the time but it clearly does happen. On the other hand I wonder if the flower is a foreshadowing to a Lapis and Peridot fusion.

The Ph of the soil might be way off. Plants can be really sensitive to that and bringing in new soil doesn't always do the trick, especially when you live in an area with poor soil content, or heavy clay. The old acidic soil can contaminate the new soil really quickly. To have sunflowers die that fast when there were so few in such a large area of bad soil doesn't seem unrealistic at all. It's really hard to recover a damaged area but I've watched my grandparents do it many times. (They would purchase ruined farm land on the cheap and renew it to sell at a profit) there's many steps to go with dead soil before you can just plunk a sunflower in there, especially a crop version like Peridot has. The whole scene was just really funny to me, but it helped because I've been feeling that exact way with other stuff in my life, but it made me realize that maybe I just don't know the steps to get to where I want yet. Just like Peridot and the gang totally could restore the kindergarten if they knew more about farming. And that gives me hope.

Lapis is terrible, pysically abused jasper and mentally abused peridot. Glad she left peridot deserves better

Lewis Baldwin idk, i think Peridot was babysitting her and sheltering her from having to think about HW coming back. When it suddenly dropped on her that they may be she panics and Fight or Flight instincts take over. And peridot is still naive to the fact that emotions are fluid and not everyone is going to act or react the way you want them or envision them to despite your efforts. IM glad Peridot still has a lot to learn about how emotions work.

Lewis Baldwin+ To be fair Jasper also abused Lapis but I can't defend Lapis for her abusing Peridot.

But, jasper abused her too lol... , How'd she mentally abuse peridot though? I understand The problem stems from lapis not changing (or I suppose not trying harder to) she has ptsd as we know, however, she represses that a lot. Peridot, who doesn't want lapis to be upset, walks on eggshells and tries to make everything seem like it's okay - don't remember the exact quote peridot said but it was something like "so in general I don't say those things because they'll upset you" and lapis responds with "that's lying!". Then when things like another war happening come up, lapis freaks out. If their relationship we're to become healthier lapis would need to be willing to change and move on from her past, while peridot would need to stop babying her the way she does (even though it is out of care, it only makes things worse).

Did you see how scared Peri was to even say her own opinion? Peri says there are things she wants to say but decides not to because she knows Lapis won't take it well. And what did Lapis do? Got mad, yelled at her and left. That's a form of abuse.

Astral Turtle and lapis was upset at the fact that peridot wasn't telling her things, she genuinely seemed hurt and then got aggravated that she's been keeping things from her this entire time. A healthy relationship needs communication and honesty, so it's understandable why lapis got mad there. I don't think she's scared of lapis but more or of how things will effect lapis (having ptsd) and part of that likely has to do with guilt from hurting her before.

This sucks.. Amedot supporters won’t shut up, people think Jasper should get sympathy even tho she was the bully, and Lapis is gone and no one but a hand full of people give a crap. Worst fandom ever, and also worst season so far....

Lapis logic: Hey! I'm going to be living with you but if something that I'm scared of appears I'm going to act for ONLY my own.

Lapis really has no obligation to risk her life by staying on Earth. The only problem was that she took the whole barn, which she didn't need.
@AstralTaurus7 жыл бұрын
Momchil Momchilov Steven reached out to her when no one did, and Peridot lived with her for so long. They both have given her so much, so yeah she does have a reason to help save earth. But she turned her back on her friends anyway :(
@momchi987 жыл бұрын
I still don't think of her that much less. She has serious trauma from the war and genuinely wanted them to come with her. Staying on Earth would have been a MUCH bigger deal than for say Steven. She would literally be risking her life. Are you completely certain that you would go on a war for a friend instead of trying to make them come with you to a safer place? I feel just as bad that she left, but she had no time to think this through, she was too scared.
