We all go through tough times in our lives. Maybe we lost a job, a friend, or a loved one. Maybe we simply missed the bus or failed a test. All of theses, no matter how large or small, can cause feelings of grief and how we deal with this is different for every person. Caron is no stranger to grief herself and while she cant tell you how to react to it, she will try to help guide your way. Caron Grossman is a Registered Nurse, Certified Transitional Life Coach and Owner of Open Door Coaching. As a nurse, she has worked extensively with families, patients and health care providers in organ donation, critical care, health coaching and addiction. Somewhere along the way her path shifted into focusing on her early love of working with people in grief, end of life and other complex life transitions and living losses.
Caron is an inspirational speaker who offers different perspectives on grief. Topics range from Self Care for Healthcare Providers when Experiencing Grief, Learning to Communicate with your Grief, Caregiver Burnout and more...She finds great joy in creating and holding space in both large and small Grief Workshops as well as a monthly grief support group at Fayetteville Public Library. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I lost my husband of 50 + years less than a year ago after taking him through the dying process for almost 3 years locked down with CoVid. He had Terminal Cancer. As a retired RN, I feel I failed on some levels, as he had many issues, leaving me in complicated grief… Jeanne

Why don't people hold space for others anymore?...its always "call if you need anything" as they turn and run...as a single mom, my only child, my son drowned...forever 20........i never knew this kind of alone existed......society is terrified of grief...of feelings.......their own and others.........when my mom suicided........i was back to work after 2 weeks....because society said 2 weeks is all you get..... When my son died...i said this time I'm doing it my way........alone

Thank you for sharing this Michelle. Society is so scared of grief. That’s what we’ve been taught. And that’s why I want to give grief a voice. A safe space to be heard and to be whatever it needs to be. I am so deeply sorry for the deaths of your mom and your son. Wishing you peace of mind, body and spirit with so much love. ✨💕

Ms Grossman, I lost my wife three months ago. We were deeply in love for 36 years. I have considered going with her, taking up drinking, drug, all kinds of destructive behaviors. I have no idea what my future is. Everything seems so hopeless and purposeless. Then I found your talk. You mentioned see signs of love one still around. And I thought when my wife was still alive, we had a secret code, which was 123. It meant "I love you". Then I heard you said the exact number. I wonder if that was the sign that my wife is still around. Maybe she is talking to me through your speech? I can't find out. But, thanks for giving your speech. I think I need to hear this.

I am finding that mourning is not just about loss, it is also a radical affirmation of our capacity to feel love, hope, and desire, even as we move through the sometimes undoing of those things. Mourning affirms our capacity to feel, which I think is necessary to retain the very deep sense of humanity that each of us carry throughout our lives.

I don't know if you will ever see this Ms. Grossman, but please know your talk is something I needed, but I didn't know I needed it. September & October will bring the anniversaries of losing my husband's grandmother, both of my grandmothers and my dad. I still have mixed emotions surrounding each one, and it's time I deal with it. All of it. Thank you again.

I am so grateful that you reached out to me to let me know how this affected you. It is you and what you are experiencing as to why I needed to do this talk. You, me, we are not alone. You have so many losses to face as Fall begins. My hope is that you may find a way to celebrate their lives and allow your grief to show up however feels right for you. Peace to you...
