Thank you for this interview! I'm one of the few people who is not familiar with Sali but I enjoyed listening to her. As for your question regarding the increasing amount of people posting about perfume without any technical knowledge I agree with her. As long as they truly enjoy the perfume, if it makes them shiver, if it transports them, if they have stories to tell, I think that they have a place among perfume writers/KZbinrs etc...As a perfume enthusiast myself, I wrote about perfume in the past even if I was less knowledgable than now. Just because I had many ideas about it and was really taken by it. And then, later on, I did many trainings, workshops, readings, self teaching etc...It really depends on what your angle is. Posing as a perfume specialist or expert (then, yes, it's obviously better to have technical knowledge or insider know how) or writing about your viewpoints, your stories, your (genuine) love of perfume (then, it's enough to have something interesting, personal to share). What I terribly dislike are the people who post and film about perfume but neither love it nor know about it, just to make money, getting free stuff, followers etc...that's super annoying and spoils the game/fun for all the genuine perfume lovers...

What an inspiring conversation! I can totally see Cary Grant wearing Pour Monsieur by Chanel, and I could not personally agree more that Pour Monsieur is terribly underrated. I love this perfume, which will not come as a surprise to you Dariush as you have seen me write, and rave, about Cristalle many times. I have asked myself often enough if I should ever even comment on youtube about perfume considering how little I really know about it. On the other hand I have learned so much through the exchange with other sometimes very knowledgeable and sometimes not very knowledgeable people. It has made me ask questions, research and read and often it has been simply a joy being able to exchange impressions and ideas. In that way it has been a creative process of its own. The perfume world should be careful when they think of their customers as inapt or when they belittle them in any way. That would be a dangerous position of a brand or a perfumer to be in. The art world lives of, and should appeal to, a healthy judgement of their public. Nobody will be able to avoid abusive behaviour in a world that lately quite vastly promotes unrealistic ideas of instant fame and quick money and which a few people are being confused by. Mass production of just pleasant products feed into that type of an attitude which hopefully will collapse on itself when people realize they can't or don't want to spend their money on so little real content any more. I love that Guy Robert said that a woman (or a man of course) who wears a perfume on a daily basis might end up knowing it better than the perfumer himself who has long moved on to creating other perfumes. If the perfume world considered having that much respect for the wearers they would care in a different way about what they produce and we as consumers would be able (again) to make much more educated choices. On the other hand the people who watch this channel are just the ones who make these educated choices anyways and who practise on a daily basis to distinguish between not only qualities of perfume, but in the end between qualities of attitude behind the scent. I will be observing with huge interest where these tendencies take us, secretly hoping for a renaissance and a manifestation of Roudnitska's view: Perfume seen as the work of art it has always been.

I really like this type of videos. If u could have an interview with the Le Labo CEO I would like very much too. Le Labo to me is like Tesla to the car industry. They really think out of box. Their parfumés not only smell incredible good and are long lasting, but they are parabens/ phthalates free, they are animal cruelty free, they’re vegan, they are non toxic… I just discovered Fleur D’oranger and I really love it. So that's the one where I ask Dariush the exact time the live will be on, in Paris time, and my best friend shows up at my door just before.... I couldn't really kick her out of my house because "I am planning to watch a live with two very interesting people in English about perfume - you can watch too if you want!" 😂 Anyway.... You were both great and the conversation took interesting turns and as you said it would maybe benefit a follow up! I have to say the #mantleplacevideo made me interested in perfume too, and I think what made it great was the spontaneous feeling Sali talked about. I am curious now, did you manage to find the time to watch it and what did you make of it Dariush?

Thanks again for this upload. I set up playlists to watch whilst I put on face masks and set my hot rollers for the following day's work, like some version of Dolly Parton in '9 to 5'. These interviews you do are excellent. Fragrance is just 'smelly water' and 'not a big deal' to many content creators, going by their replies to viewers whom they may misread as emotionally immature autistic obsessives needing help with perspective in life but their tone comes off as glib and strange. It's NOT just smelly water to a great deal of people working in the industry or to people who appreciate art, craftsmanship and the greater context of what they're smelling and buying. Before I go, I can't think of a better person to ask just a quick question which may be but a small flag being waved across the cyber tundra in distress but one heavy and waterlogged with my tears of despair nonetheless ;D. Okay: What's happened to Mousse Illuminee from Rogue Perfumery??!! It was a masterpiece I couldn't get enough of, all juicy sweet pine-menthol oakmoss and now all the dimension has been punched out of it and it's dull, flat, bitter and characterless. It also generates a piercing headache almost immediately. It's in new packaging and when I sprayed my newly arrived bottle I almost wept: this is NOT the same Mousse Illuminee I've been so evangelical and passionate about. I assume that a change in raw material supplier is most likely the culprit but could it really be that one ingredient responsible for completely flattening and destroying a fragrance? I honestly don't recognise it anymore. It's got a bitter green white wine flatness to it, no liveliness, no character. It's just not the same fragrance at all. Could people raving about the beautiful oakmoss in the composition have misled him to doing something with/to it with good intentions but which inadvertently now causes hideous migraines ? Why make a fragrance that cannot exist if just one volatile ingredient is fiddled with?! Why make something that is so bloody difficult to keep smelling the same month on month (never mind year on year!). There's no continuity, no stability and no quality control consistency-- the fragrance has altered beyond recognition and this is a huge problem in the niche world with Mousse Illuminee being the finest example I could give right now. I just want to hear from other candid lovers of this fragrance so I know I'm not imagining this imposter? I wish discussing this would be easy because I'd love to find a way to tell Manuel that I recognise his genius and would pay DOUBLE the asking price with no quibbling if it meant returning to the REAL Mousse Illuminee fragrance character. I worry that his pride and defensiveness would prohibit him from hearing what is essentially an enormous compliment and plea and not a giant whinge-a-thon. I'd be most interested to read/hear your experiences with this fragrance and hope that something will be done. If we all politely sit on critical feedback...:( I wish I knew what to do because I don't want to offend a perfumer I hold in such high regard. I hate the new version of Mousse Illuminee and feel like I just wasted a good chunk of cash. Worse, I cherish the 'normal' one and just want it back. Consistency?!
