That bit about exploring the "hidden shadows " really struck a chord. This might even be some of the reasons for the moral plight the Western religions are facing now. Sbstractism. The weird desire to extrapolate beyond the given narrative. Humans are not quite as complex and philosophical as they'd like to believe. Our philosophical sensibilities might be a little psychological gymnastics to come to terms with this primal bases for human civilization.
