Chasten took a moment to sign my "Buttigieg for President " cap this weekend in Plymouth NH. Let me tell you why I think that is important. I was in the overflow crowd and the main room was waiting for Pete to come in and give his town hall, so I could see the that he wanted to walk away because of the time constraint, but something made him pause and take the time to do that kindness for me . It seems like a little thing but little things matter . When you do big things with plenty of support and visibility , that is good ,but it's also easy in some ways. Doing something small that will be seen by no one is more difficult and more meaningful on some level. To me it shows that your character extends all the way down to your bones and is not simply a patina painted on for the cameras. I thanked him and told him I thought they were doing a great job . While he hurried to catch Pete I reflected that it is the small sacrifices over the course of the hours , days, and years of our lives that culminate in defining who we are , and in that moment I saw a not too distant future where two men of character and integrity would be the first couple of the United States of America and I was filled with joy. ( Plus I've got this wicked cool hat signed by both of them ! )

It's going to be a rough road ahead, I'll be praying for both of them as well as their marriage. Being on the campaign trail almost always takes a toll on a marriage, having said that, in my humble opinion theirs is going to just fine in not stronger after this process, I can see the love, respect and admiration these two have for one n other and it reminds me in my traditional marriage not to take anything granted.
