Mr Hitchens is the voice the world really needs to wake up and listen to. The cult has essentially deplatformed him from debating on the BBC and most of the people who listen to him already do because his wisdom highlight issues we knew we were worried about but couldn't articulate our concerns. He gives us our words.

If they don't understand that attack ads only work when they articulate what people already think, suspect or at least find plausible, then there's no hope for them. Fundamentally clueless. You are correct that they have invited a full frontal counter-attack on their woke sympathies, and come 2024 that's what they'll get.

I started reading a lot about Irelands soft power recently and its quite interesting. I didn't realise how much Ireland have influenced the US and Europe but they are now becoming the gateway between US and EU which is going to really change the relationships of both regions over the next few decades. Ireland is a good choice though, as they are also a strong ally with the UK and tend to work very closely together diploatically (ignoring the political hyperbole at the surface level).

Peter's mention of the demise of Christian values, and their displacement by woke dogma, really struck a chord with me. It rings true. So Adrian thinks that all racial inequality is the fault of white people and nothing to do with incompatible cultures, values, household structures or anything like that? Arn't white boys suffering more than any other group in British education today? Also, Britains is around 85% white so maybe you should expect those in desirable positions to be... maybe... around 85% white? Given that the current and previous cabinets were less than 85% white, who says Britain is failing minorities? If you move to a country where you are a very small minority, like less than 10%, you're just not going to see 'you' reflected in media, top jobs, celebrities or other high profile roles in that society; it's just basic common sense but the left sews resentment and gains votes by exploiting such minorities and Adrian plays right into their hands with his 'I'm so bad I haven't done enough' attitude.

Adrian is one of the free market liberals Peter described; he hasn’t an interest in challenging the fallacies of the Left because he accepts them as true. He even started his segment with vindicating the idea that there are unjust out comes which need fixing rather than pointing out that this is an artificial situation caused by mass immigration. He buys into the Left’s paradigm and so him and Peter are not even on the same wavelength.

Enjoyed the discussion on the rise of the woke ideology. Made me think things are perhaps worse than I feared. One glimmer of hope this week was the Budweiser outcome as it shows that despite its apparent ubiquity, wokeism is far from universally accepted when it comes to things where people can freely show their actual views and show their resistance to the endless propaganda. $5 billlion loss if true, a well deserved outcome.

I don't think Peter had read Andrew's article, he didn't address it at all. The jab at Brexit popularism was just a Remainer reflex reaction against the idea of the meritocracy being undermined by ordinary people, who should defer to the judgement of the elite. The reality is that the late nineteenth snd early twentieth century was a period of great social mobility, as the old aristocracy lost power. But it stopped working, social mobility is incredibly low today. What actually happened is that those who rose through meritocracy promoted the cause of their children. Our elite today are the children or grandchildren of those who rose their own efforts. They created an educational racket, so working class children get degrees to be nurses or police officers, jobs that working class people used to do without it. So many at the top of society are their by a sort of merit, but its a strictly a merit of working the system and fitting in. Woke systems are a threat but not to meritocracy, the beneficiaries of it already choked most of the life out of it.

The irony of this debate is that it illustrates everything Peter is talking about perfectly. Him and Adrian aren’t even talking on the same wavelength; Adrian is not a conservative but a free market liberal of the type that Peter identified and so his discussion of this topic starts with accepting the Left’s fallacy that there are actually unjust outcomes that need fixing. He is not a conservative because, if he were, the starting point of his argument would be to challenge this fallacy at its roots with the point that mass immigration has caused this very situation and that these people apparently suffering unjust outcomes should not even be here in the first place. This sort of thinking is what has caused our current problems; by not contending, and thus accepting, this underlying fallacy, the starting point of the debate is logically at a more superficial and shallow level. Worse, the ideological debate is not even being had because we are distracted with devising solutions to an artificial problem of the Left’s creation. If we started rejected the underlying fallacies, we could actually have a conversation about the ideological values of British culture.

The English Premier League is a great example of a meritocracy. If you are not good enough, you will not make the squad, and yet, half the players are black, so to say that a meritocracy is racist is complete bunk. Its the opposite of being biased and prejudiced, but it does means hard work and dedication. Where talent talks, and BS walks.

Sorry Peter but you don’t have to be a Christian conservative to have a strong platform to fight Woke. Classical liberalism, based as Adrian says, on freedom and individualism, not collectivism is the best antidote to Woke madness.

Wokeness is the end point of individualism - “I identify as…”
@awhite3747
@awhite3747 Жыл бұрын
@@MarcusWHunt Not sure about that. The original principles of being "Woke", the first and second feminist movements and the anti-discrimination laws - all culminating in the c20th - created a sense of progress. Normal, everyday people across generations, who don't live in echo chambers, reflect these changes for the most part. The ideologically driven Left hates this; they have lost their foothold. The answer? Create new definitions, parcel up society accordingly and stand back. No real social evolution, no innovation; just plain old-fashioned lust for power and relevance. A twisted version of the failed Third Way.

Social Justice is a Catholic invention. That being said… After watching the general populace respond to Covid, it seems that most people need something outside of themselves to provide a moral framework. Just because some people can operate as individuals, doesn’t mean the majority will. Jesus over Fauci is still best.

Joel surprised you thought Brighton should be on the list. It's affectionately know as London by the sea for good reason and outside of London it is one of the most expensive places to live in the UK. Brighton is very liberal minded, the gay and lesbian capital of the country and has some of the best nightclubs too. It's a trendy, very fashionable place to live, most people vote for the Green Party and is full of vegan and vegetarian cafés. Every year they have a naked bike race and the largest gay pride festival in Europe. American Republican types would not approve, terribly left wing, diverse and very cosmopolitan. Worth a visit on a sunny day if you want a fun day out and only a hour and a bit from London on the train.

ALL those who have entered the UK illegally, outstayed their visas or committed violent crimes in the past 25 years ought to be repatriated immediately. If they were, there would be no "housing crisis" and the millions of new sub-standard homes would not need to be built. We also need to give incentives, in the form of tax breaks, to married indigenous Brits to have more children to raise our reproduction rate so that it is sustainable.

Watched the first discussion about the "New Elites." First, and most importantly, the Spectator deliberately didn't chose someone who would seriously challenge the thesis. The Spectator knows its audience wants ressurance not actualy debate. Secondly none of Adrian Wooddridge's assertions were evidenced. This talk of a new elite was evidenced by footage of people in their twenties holding up cardboard posters saying just stop oil, in a country where the people actually in charge are licensing new North Sea oil and gas fields while introducing new laws making such protests harder to conduct without going to jail. Really poor.
