The part that makes me laugh is a 2.23 "Grasp, I beseech you with both hands" ... "So sorry ma'am"

The first two words sound exactly like Sir Robert Menzies. I thought so in the 1950s and I still do.
@brianletter35453 ай бұрын
Robert Menzies? Could be! At the time many said it was a copy of a speech by Harold Macmillan!
@davidmorrison27393 ай бұрын
@@brianletter3545 I don't think it was Menzies. I just noticed thet it sounded very like him at the start of the speech.

I really enjoyed 2TK's version of this speech yesterday. His was even better, he kept it up for an hour!

The Conservative candidate from "How to Win an Election (or Not Lose by Much)". He also did the Labour candidate and the Liberal candidate equally brilliantly. And 3 people don't understand the satire...

I first heard this as a snippet of audio used in John Cage's "Variations IV". It was played at the wrong speed.
@schlemiel428 жыл бұрын
this was hysterical ! I seem to remember another similar file that had a Bluebottle-type voice included where he said something like " you don't say one thing followed by a good thing when you speak again - you don't say anything like what I want to hear - you aren't half a twit" - was this on the How to win an election LP or did I dream this???
@heathstjohn67753 жыл бұрын
You didn't imagine it. It certainly was said. It may be on that lp., as I haven't played my cd of it for some time.

Spent 20 minutes of my life so you can save 3 minutes. (applause) My friends, in the light of present-day developments, let me say right away that I do not regard existing conditions lightly. On the contrary, I have always regarded them as subjects of the gravest responsibility and shall ever continue to do so. Indeed, I will go further and state quite categorically that I am more than sensible of the definition of the precise issues which are at this very moment concerning us all. We must build, but we must build surely. (applause) Let me say just this: if any part of what I am saying is challenged, then I am more than ready to meet such a challenge, for I have no doubt whatsoever that whatever I may have said in the past, or what I am saying now, is the exact, literal and absolute truth as to the state of the case. (applause) I put it to you that this is not the time for vague promises of better things to come. For if I were to convey to you a spirit of false optimism, then I should be neither fair to you nor true to myself. But does this mean, I hear you cry, that we can no longer look forward to the future that is to come? Certainly not! Audience: "What about the workers?" What about the workers indeed, sir! (off topic: Grasp, I beseech you, with both hands.) The opportunities that are offered. Let us assume a bold front and go forward together. Let us carry the fight against ignorance to the far corners of the earth because it is a fight which concerns us all. And now, finally my friends, in conclusion, let me say just this:

Thank you. Edit: I just checked the transcript feature to see if it could handle Sellers’ over-the-top accent in this recording. It couldn’t. There is absolutely no transcript here other than yours.
I'd say Romney, (aka Thurston Howell III) more similar in every way.

That speech, during which the German delegation laughed openly and most rudely at his assertion that the Nordstream 2 pipeline put German national security at risk, has aged rather well. Your comment, not so much.
