If you can turn the Pete sideways across the 2 bays, you can rig up your temporary booth as a side draft. I've painted vac trucks and other oilfield equipment in everything from quonsets to paintbooths, even outside under a lean-to and gotten great results, it's not always about the booth. Having a swat team of people to prep helps. I always set up my ladders and scaffolding so I'd never risk touching the truck or having to waste time moving the hood to access the cab etc.

Mornin Mark, finally got to watch this weeks episode, I think by the looks of all of your projects you are going to be well into your retirement years before some of them are done, but that's ok at least you will be doing something you love to do. I don't think I will see you again this year at the Lesco truck show, I'm not quite retired yet so they insist that I keep working every day they can squeeze out of me so I guess I will look forward to next year. Hope you win more awards this year. Have a great week Mark say hello to Mrs. Twin stix for us.

I would recommend using threaded inserts to mount your visor brackets. It makes it so much easier to change windshields in the future of you can take the visor off so it isn't in the way. Every truck I've put a drop visor on I have done that way, just be sure to smear a little silicone around the insert before you crush it in to help prevent leaks.

Kudos to your daughter for helping. That's pretty cool. A couple days work and she will have a new phone LOL. Good choice on the half fenders Mark. Those are my favorite. I agree, I don't like the full length fenders either, especially the painted fiberglass versions. I think they look really cheap but that's just my opinion... If you want to drive the Freightliner but don't want to tear it apart, you might trying putting an ionizer inside to help get rid of the smell. I've never tried one but I've read that they will get rid of just about any smell. That would make it more enjoyable to drive, and save the work of tearing everything out.

I shut my shop down 2 weeks ago for deep cleaning and I am still going and probably have another week of cleaning. I can't believe all the good stuff I have been finding. When sanding a car you have to be real careful not to destroy the style lines in the metal, it is really easy to round of and distort lines. That isn't a problem on an old Peterbilt. I would never let an inexperienced person loose to sand a car. When training workers I make them cover any style lines with masking tape first and once all the big flatter areas are sanded I go back with them to finish it. On the F Body cars the style lines on the middle of the doors and the lines around the fender lip easily become distorted and rounded. The door handle pockets are another area. I have rebuilt and restored probably 50 second gen F Bodh cars in the last 20 years.

Good Episode Mark, I really had to laugh when I watched you trying to teach your daughter how to use her fingers to find dents. My dad was an old bodyman who trained before WW@, an old lead and paddle guy. He would get so frustrated trying to teach me that same trick doing body work on my own vehicles, I don't think I had the touch. Maybe that is why I went into electronics.

Hey mark! My vote is to go with the chrome caps on the hubs. They are so rare and a lot of show trucks skip the front caps but man I think they make a world of difference . I run them on every axle on my company truck. Steer drive and trailer. Hubcaps on all axles (especially trailer) make the rig stand out

Hey Mark, Just a suggestion, what about taking the hood off and setting it on the floor of your shop and paint it. I know it's extra work, but it might make it easier to paint in the long run.

Problem with sitting it on the floor. Is all the dust that would get blown up while painting. No matter how much you clean there's always a light coat of dust on the floor

Would you consider removing the hood and doors and paint them off the truck before painting the cab. Then you could put them in Snowman’s bay while you paint the cab and bunk. That way you can paint the jambs all at one time.
@tater_relocater2 ай бұрын
Jams don’t get painted, bulkhead doors stay aluminum finish.
@user-re6yo7tj5s2 ай бұрын
While you get a better finish that method using metallics,pearls etc.carries the risk that even using the same paint there is a good chance that the panels will not match when refitted,especially as Mark isn't a seasoned painter. It's to do with how the metallic elements of the paint lays down and why painters tend to paint the shuts with the panels off, then refit the doors to paint the car,truck etc.as a whole then remove them again for clear coating.

Throw a tarp over the rear wheels and close the door down to the rails. Park your fans on either side. Big fan buddy! I have watched every episode since you drug the Smokie and the Bandit truck home! I must admit, I was skeptical in those early days, but you made it happen and then some!

Hu Mark, Ref painting the Hood on the truck... I'd tilt the hood back down leaving it propped up enough so that you can then brace across the engine to paint the roof cap on the cab.. Then using a temp wooden walk way round the hood, paint the hood at the propped angle using the walk way to get round the hood .. also build a wooden walk way round the Bunk to allow the painting of the bunk cap ... you could use the gantry legs to help in the walk way build.for the bunk.... that way the walk way is built prior to the start of painting .... inside the paint tent :) :) ... If you are using 2 pack ( Base on Clear ) you will have to crank up the shop temp for the Clear coat, or it's prone to running if the temp is to Low .. Keep up the good work .. Slow and staedy wins the race .. Andy UK ..
