"Easy to tell you're a baloney man" - an excellent description of Uncle Joe. Edgar Buchanan first caught my attention playing Applejack in the movie "Penny Serenade"; he's one of Hollywood's finest character actors and really knows how to lovably steal the show in this sitcom. 7/2018

I agree. In the Cannonball Christmas episode they got knocked over twice. 1st time when Billie Jo kissed Herbie under the mistletoe & the 2nd time when Kate kissed Sam under the mistletoe. Sam should sell the corn meal cans at a (damaged goods) discount, as I'm sure those cans are pretty well dented by now.

I liked the scene when Kate got angry at Joe when he rented the room & she went to go after him. Betty Jo: "Remember mom, the customer is always right." Kate: "What loud mouth ever said that?" Betty Jo: "You did mom." Kate: "Oh! That loud mouth." I also liked the scene down at the tracks when they were going to follow Uncle Joe. As Betty Jo opened the door of the baggage compartment & the feathers came flying out... Betty Jo: "We forgot it's market day we'll have to ride in a car load of chickens." Kate: Well, maybe we'll have to wait until tomorrow." Billie Jo: "Tomorrow will be worst it will be full of hogs." Kate: "Well don't just stand there, start clucking."

I don't think Uncle Joe could be replaced as there isn't anyone else in the whole valley as lazy & scheming as Joe is. If Joe was ever replaced, Kate wouldn't know what to do with herself with no one causing her so many headaches & problems.

Kate wouldn't be able to afford to pay anyone, that's why she uses her daughters. I never heard of any store babysitting kids or pets, and I am nearing 60. Joe makes a mess of everything. It's a wonder Kate doesn't get migraines trying to repair Joe's messes and rescue the Cannonball everytime Bedloe arrives.

I agree with Jim Elliott that it was to "give Uncle Joe the room he always wanted." also it may be a multi-room hotel, but only so many rooms for family, the other rooms are reserved for any quests that show up .
