I have been a welder for 25 years and I have used a lot of, come alongs and I know how much force those can apply. It's great to see you doing this test, in this way. Two days ago I just bought a 6 ft length of Pewag 12mm chain with a Viro Euro Monolith lock. It is going to be used with the leaf spring and rims of my travel trailer and with the handles of my generator. I don't want anybody to steal my stuff. Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦

pewag makes that grade 120 blue chain for lifting slings. the pewag galvanised security chain is not osha rated for lifting , there are no proof rating marks on the pewag galvanised security chain. however the security pewag galvanised chain is hardened to rockwell 63-65.

I'd like to see what a cutting torch would do. I've got one that fits in a backpack that I can take anywhere.

Pewag makes security chain that is designed to be hard to cut, and they make lifting chain, which is deigned to lift heavy loads. Why on earth would anyone choose the lifting chain for security use?

Hi Wayne I'm from the UK I've got the almax 22mm and the 19mm also got the 19mm and 16mm from pragmasis I've just managed to purchase the new 14mm pawag chain from from the UK. with the tests that you have carried out would you say the pawag is a stronger chain if it was equal in size to the pragmasis that you have tested I know that there's probably not much in it but just wondered what your faults was on the quality in comparison with each other. Also would be good to see the pragmasis and almax tested side by side as they are two different companies. keep up the videos they are very interesting and helpful thanks Jamie.

just out of curiosity, i wonder if after you have the bolt cutters torqued to the max, what would happen if you gave the top blade a stout whack with a three or 5 lb mini sledge. you could even use a steel rod to concentrate the impact into a small area. i wonder if this would be enough to break it.

No way in hell. These are sold as security chains, there really bolt cutter proof. You'd need a hydraulic shear, or some type of thermal or abrasion process.

Thanks Wayne! I just got my chain in the mail today. I am going to use the Stanley lock with it. I tried it and it barely fits! just need to play with the position of the links but it works together! :) thanks for the videos. My bike will be much safer than before.

Nice. You can ground a bit out of the lock or the 2 end links of chain to make it fit better

Do you think the Pewag 3/8'' security chain can be cut with bolt cutters? I use a 3/8'' - 3 foot Pewag chain with a Sargent & Greenleaf 826-C so I think they're going to opt for the chain not the lock if they want to try & take my bike. There's a video of a guy trying and failing to cut a Pewag 3/8'' with bolt cutters but it hardly looks like he's giving it much of an effort.

Yes, only angle and die grinders can cut those chains. The problem is that is very easy to get those battery powered so thieves can cut anyting if the noise is not a deterrent.

How is this chain against angle grinder ? Can you provide test for this and also website where we can buy this chain. I would like to use anchor in my garage and to chain motorcycle with this type of the chain but grinders are pain in ass... Combination of anchor chain and lock that could be good for this chain would be cool if you could provide links... thanks in advance.

So what’s the best lock you can buy that fits the Pewag 1/2 outside of custom ones you build?

Abus Granit 37/70 padlock, made in Germany. Almost 2 lbs. in weight. I have that lock for my 6 ft. Pewag 1/2” to secure my e-bike in my apartment complex. I use the Hiplok ANKR ground anchor (bolted to concrete, and had to obtain apartment owner’s permission to do so) and passed the pregame chain through the anchor openings. I ordered both lock and chains from Westech Rigging. I ordered the chafe sleeve for the chain, as well.

So is this a chain you would recommend for people that really want to secure something without a thief using a bolt cutter and if so how much about would a chain like this cost in just like 3 foot pieces?

I used Masterlock 9mm chain for my old bicycle, and 10mm shackle padlock, no one ever touched it, not even a scratch. Thieves much prefer to attack braided cable locks because the strands are easy to saw through or slice with cable shears within 2 seconds. Any chain diameter between 9-14mm is perfect for a bicycle. For a motorcycle 15mm to 22mm. for a motor home, almax 25mm

How would the 3/8 chain with less of a load rating compare in this instance? And how does this compare to the company's security chain?
