I'm trying to think of the logistics here.. according to the internet, the first japanese immigrants to america were in 1869. But yknow, a lot can happen in 400 years.. someone of just about any ancestry could have just... moved there, then moved to japan later, and intermingled with Hamato Yoshi's other ancestors until you wouldn't notice? ... or a rat just took a trip on a ship. Yeah it's probably rats. Rats were immigrants before it was cool. But either way _how would Splinter know that?_ even if you're a regular human with access to genealogy, would you have any idea where your ancestors were 400 years ago? and that's not even getting into the logistics of how Yoshi got a rat all the way to new york. I have often felt the story should have said he GOT the rat in New York, trained it there, then you could headcanon he's one of the rats that escaped from NIMH.

I think he was a filthy illegal lol. Naw he probably applied for citizenship later, then got killed.

I’m not lying or “flexing,” I actually remember feeling this way. If I was alive when the original TMNT cartoon was popular, I still would’ve seen the concept of the Coming Out of Their Shells Tour to be lame and nonsensical. I would’ve pointed out the flaws of these ninja crime fighters who save the world that also wear disguises because they’re mutant turtles deciding to suddenly reveal themselves to the public for a stupid rock band, going all pacifist, promoting non-violence and Shredder deciding to suck all the music from the world because he hates music as if I’m supposed to care and see this as evil, while also having him sing a song about hating music.
