I’m saying… without making excuses, too many people have opinions about Nina that don’t make sense if you play her. Is she really really strong? Yes. Can some characters really struggle against her offense? Absolutely. Does she also have matchups that are clearly in the other characters’ favor? I really believe so. Characters with strong advancing attacks and good range can just melt her sometimes because she just doesn’t have a lot of options in a certain range that other characters excel at. I’m not saying change her, I’m just saying she’s the type of character people will give a chance because everyone says how strong she is, and go “I’m losing a lot… must be because she’s hard to execute” and drop her but not reconsider that maybe what everyone is saying is a little biased because they’re only looking at the character on paper and/or in certain matchups.

Tier lists are a “I’m trying to be objective to represent the strength of this character, but I cannot measure human ability to perform or fuck up the matchup, the mind games, the playstyle,the adaptations the player makes,etc”
@Youllneverfindmezx5 ай бұрын
Couldn’t say it better myself. Usually high tiers are characters people struggle against which is more a personal problem than an objective fact.
@Dr.Happy115 ай бұрын
@@Youllneverfindmezx Eh, I'd argue that first and foremost, high tiers either naturally possess a higher concentration of objectively stronger tools, or possess a couple completely unique traits (usually new ones, which will kill both noobs and pros alike). And in regards to that, more high tiers emerge from characters that have favorable matchups to the existing high tiers. Usually, it should be apparent which 2-3 characters are mathematically high tier, and the rest will fluctuate with a million factors affecting them.
@kronksstronkstonks63605 ай бұрын
Tier lists will always have an element of subjectivity, to boot. Are they factoring only the ceiling of the character and their tools in their rankings or are they factoring in tournament tiering - which is a bit different because tournament nerves and jetlag etc make consistent, easy to execute gameplans more attractive than they might be in online play, where character familiarity and cinnectiij strength are king, for example. Also, are they factoring in the skill floor and/or the ability of the character to carry players through lower ranks through oppressively good buttons that might fade in value at higher tiers of play? Theres a lot of factors and having an objective tier list is kinda impossible due to how subjective the prioritisation of these factors are.

And if you haven’t and you do that, and you find yourself struggling against certain matchups in ranked, I would maybe just say don’t jump to “must be my fault because this character is tricky to execute”. Maybe consider the character has shortcomings in certain matchups that don’t take her out of top 5 but also don’t make her “top 1”. I believe she has really strong tools but when you play her (and when you then watch pro players doing the exact same matchup) people will see that some characters really just don’t need to care about those tools as much. Again, doesn’t mean she’s not really strong especially against characters who struggle against those tools.

If you carefully follow the championships, you can clearly see how difficult it is for her to win, because she has many shortcomings and is far from the strongest in this game. I saw The Main Man just put Nina as the best character in the game and I went 🤨 I’m dead serious, play against a good Paul as Nina at any skill level (or just look up pros doing that matchup) and you’ll see why Nina is a character that in a vacuum is great but she just has some really good matchups and some pretty bad matchups. Some things she does extremely well… and some characters just don’t really need to care about those things. Paul isn’t as high on the tier list but… seriously, just go watch pro players trying out that matchup and you’ll see where Nina falls short (literally at times). I’m trying not to do the typical “downplay your main” thing and just speak objectively here. She is top 5 but that just doesn’t mean she also doesn’t fall short in some pretty significant areas, or have to work a lot harder to do the same thing as other characters in certain matchups. Edit: 5:09 - I think the best clue to what I’m saying is the part about “he’s not desperate to do damage” and what follows after that. Respectfully that strikes me a little as “hindsight is 20/20”. What this actually means to me is that a Nina player either wasn’t pressuring the other player effectively in that match, or because of the matchup the character has a hard time pressuring the other character effectively which means her biggest strengths aren’t coming into play. Here I would argue maybe a bit of both. If a character is able to do what’s being described here then either Nina or the player piloting her isn’t doing their job well enough. I personally think Jodd is good enough that it’s maybe worth taking a second look at the character to see if maybe she has some less-than-favorable matchups.

Just today I was labbing Jin's df2. With Kazuya, it seems magic 4 beats every option out of wavedash after df2 is blocked, and Jin has to manually cancel and duck to go below and launch punish the magic 4. Additionally, any i12 magic 4 will win as long as it doesn't get crushed by CD1. If your character doesn't have a i12 magic 4, try another 12 frame move like 2 jab. Some get crushed some don't. Also, CD WS4,4 is rather fast, and I think magic 4 only wins by 1 frame. So you have to be extra tight with the timing. Ironically, Jin himself doesn't have a good option select for df2 CD options. (i suppose parry may be good, not a Jin main 🤷♂️) If Jin delays the options from df2, CD, that changes nothing and magic 4 will still beat every option.

Quick question, for pad users, should I get seperate d-pad buttons or stick to the default dualshock 5 pad?

I think that if someone struggles against Nina, it's a lack of labbing and overall experience with fighting the character. That's the last thing I'm going to say about that. I'm out.

Is there a reason pros do not use b 1+3 counters? My noob scrub mind saw a lot of what looked like good opportunities for Jodd to use them, so I figured, there must be a good reason.

Probably because it is too risky. Even if there are good opportunities, you never know in the moment if its a good opportunity or a bait to get ch

The risk/reward ratio isn’t great especially offline where everything is more reactable. Also I could be misremembering, doesn’t it only work against high moves? which you can duck for a much larger punish anyway. Edit: I wanted to see a pro matchup where Nina won over Jin so I went and found Arslan vs Devilster. Arslan does use the move, essentially as I think it should be used - like once or twice a game just to remind your opponent you have it and they have to factor that extra little detail into what moves they throw out.

Honestly, I'm just a little curious about your point about "Common issue in Europe" at 6:01 what did you mean by that? Just genuinely curious (I am not that good of a player and barely watch high rank play)
@blazaybla225 ай бұрын
Based on the context of what he’s saying, I’m gonna toss out a guess and I could be totally wrong: I think it’s for the same reason that the really good European basketball players who come to the US to play in the NBA are great at scoring but not as good on defense - when you’re an amazing player in Europe, there’s just not the same degree of competition around you that you refine your defense by playing against. Of course I could be completely wrong but that’s my guess - I’d be curious to know the real answer myself!

European players are known for player aggressively and quick, where they mix you up and either die quickly... Or you die quickly.

Disagree, her db2 nerf actually decreased her overall combo damage more than people realize and I REALLY think people underestimate how much the overall nerf to command grabs affected her. I’m not complaining but she is a character whose gameplan in a lot of matchups is very much strike-throw and yet unlike some characters that don’t even need to grab like she does, she didn’t get one homing grab out of the patch to compensate. I’m not saying she got nerfed to the ground or anything and I don’t even think the nerfs were unwarranted, I just completely disagree with the idea that the patch didn’t touch her at all 🤷♂️
