Phil would be flabbergasted today, and we need people like him more than ever!

I can't remember any other protest, topical song or rock performer taking their case directly to the street as Phil did. What a great man and human being.

A true visionary. He even spoke out for the rights of gays in the 60s. Dylan would never do that!

Even if Dylan ever did, we wouldn't be able to tell

Dylan did have a few songs about African American rights on his early albums, he was very noble to his beliefs and what he thought of society

I don't think Phil really held that against Dylan and I don't either. Bob knew that if he started down that road he would be overwhelmed with requests for promotion, marketing, groups looking for support of various causes, etc.

Yes! He did it when it was unpopular, that is what counts, unlike today...

I love Dylan. Don’t pit musicians against each other. There’s enough love for them all. Phil Ochs is my hero then now and always.

Phil was a wonderful human being! He was intelligent, had a great sense of humor and he did care. He cared about people. He hated segregation - everywhere! He was color blind - truly colorblind. I know he would be greatly saddened at the DC people today and Trump would probably be looking for away to quiet him. Oh, one thing I need to say - Phil didn’t think about himself first but alway about others first. Dylan has always thought about Dylan first. Dylan didn’t write anything about the assassinations of the Kennedy’s or Martin Luther King, Jr. until after people began to speak about it and then he wrote, or had someone write, a song about these horrific events. He came out with a generic assassination song. Dylan always cared about Dylan - Phil cared about other’s.

does anybody know where I can get a recording of the whole Ochs set in that legendary Newport fest concert?

Spotify has the full recording of the Newport Folk appearance. Its also on the album "The Early Years"

@@DevilishDropout I suspect that is probably not complete. Since he sang on two different stages in the festival. I doubt he had only sang 5 songs. That appear on those records.

@@Eduardo-Ferreira1982 The Live from Newport Folk Festival has a 12 song set list and an introduction from Peter Yarrow. The same performance is on Early Years with 5 additional track but they are not from that show.

@@DevilishDropout I know, my friend. I only doubt if those are all the songs he sang on the two festival editions. there's an info that accounts one more song on the 63 edition that it's not on record.
