Howdy Phil. I got a laugh out of your reference " Looks like Shirley Temples curls ". I don't know what you're drinking but can I have a couple of shots. LMAO. Cork Oak is a fascinating tree as far as sustainability goes. I had no idea it was such a beautiful wood. I must have missed your previous cork videos. Another fine piece of work from you sir. I noticed when you were showing it at the end of the video that it does look like Shirley's curls when you stand it on the one end. LOL. And I think we should give Scottcates below a big hand for his use of the word " medullary ". How often does anyone get to use that in conversation? Kudos Scott!!! Take care Phil and keep turning. Bill Riley.

Hi Phil. Hope you have a fireplace for all the broken branches that fell during your wind storm. This year is broken-branch winter in our neck of the woods. That's fur sure. Our ice is finally thick enough to walk out on. The ice-fishers are out, with there wind-protecting tents. Can't wait for a windless, sunny day, to strap on the snow shoes, grab the pole and go for a walk out on the lake. Cork oak. Had never heard of it. ....Why do I think that cork grows in Italy? Must have heard that at one point. Or, it that violin wood? Can't remember now. Anyhoo, your turn tonight is sooooo cool! Your choice of what was up and what was down was a surprise to me. Your ability to "advance-see" a shape in a block of wood always amazes me. Nnnnneat colour!

Cool Phil...and so is the turning 😂. The cork makes this piece and not turning it away was the best look from where I am watching. If we get the Internet back I will watch on a bigger screen than my cell phone . Then it will look even better. I sure miss standing in front of my lathe 😢. Watching you turn helps though. Stay warm, Gary
@PhilAndersonShadyAcresWoodshop10 ай бұрын
Agree, Gary, it's all about the cork/bark. Amazing stuff! I feel for you, buddy! You will be glad to get back to the lathe and your audience will be glad, too! We miss seeing you there! But, take your time and get it right. I don't wanna see you limping about for the next 30 years! 😊

I think it’s lovely absolutely gorgeous and very very different. I love the way they bark has that dark ring just before you get to the real wood :-) the contrast in colours is something I really do like. I’ve only ever seen Cork bark without the wooden underneath it and they use it in Fish tanks for lizards and snakes to hide under :-). I’m with you all the way on this. It’s fantastic. I love it.
