This song is so beautiful. It was written by Steve Perry and Neal Schon in Neal’s hotel room in 30 minutes the first time they met in Colorado. “So here we stand so patiently...waiting for your (the fans) lights to shine on me...” Steve’s dreams were coming true. “One in a million”...Steve Perry is definitely that “one in a million”. Journey On.

I've always loved this. I just thought this song was so iconic because it was the 1st song Neil and Steve wrote together. That developed a bond between them

On an episode of Behind the Music, about Journey. Steve Perry talks about how down and frustrated he'd become from trying to break into the music industry, that he went back home and nearly quit. I think, the thing about Steve Perry and Neal Schon was on there too.

Thank you for continuing on with Journey. Steve will forever be the one in a million voice of our generation. Speaking of his mother in your reaction I've recommended "When I Think Of You" a very beautiful tribute to his mother he wrote inspired by a dream he'd had after she passed. Also "Anyway" about his band of brothers. These two very beautiful Perry signature songs really capture a heart of gold, and the kind, caring person Steve is inside. 💞

It's about Steve Perry trying to fit into the group who had been already around for quite a few years before he came to the band. And how it took a long time for Steve to make in the music business and finally he made it. It was a long road!

...but the band did not chart....not.even close. before Steve Perry...Journey, the band, were incredible talents, but they needed a singer...and fate gave them the greatest American vocalist of a generation...the stars aligned , and gave us a decade of great music...never really understood how they fuc$ed it up. But it is too bad, they had more to offer....Steve Perry not giving us a song for the past 25 + years...just not fair

The song is an example of how the band was trying to figure out their direction with Perry coming in. It's like two songs, the ballad to begin, then Schon's ripping guitar arrives as the song's tempo increases, then it finishes like a ballad again.
