I just learned that long layovers ar not such a bad thing. Last week I flew from Dumaguete to Boracay and had 1 1/2 hour layover in Manila. It was lunch time though I would be able to get something to eat. The plane left Dumaguete 45 minutes late got to Manila and had to run to the boarding gate. When I got there I found that they changed gates so had to run to the new gate. I made the flight but no chance to get anything to eat. Longer flight delays in the Philippines is not always a bad thing.

Gio, two suggestions: one, open an account with Navy Federal Credit Union. Yes, US Army qualifies. They are uniquely attuned to expatriates needs. And, as the US re-enters PI, it is only a matter of time before they have a branch there. They already have a VoIP toll free international support line. And spend a day in South Dakota at a hotel to qualify for a SD Driver's license. It's good for 10 years and can be renewed online. It is really popular with permanent Mexico expats to get registration tags for their cars.

So long holiday back to home to reconnect with your sons. Very nice. Now no matter what face they put on, meeting your first family will be an issue for any Filipina. Jealousy, insecurities are all likely to come out. Social media stalking, excessive messaging, frequent phone calls, constant complaining can all become a norm. Perhaps you can make a video on this topic including how Maya took this. BTW not intending to type cast Maya, but the issue as a whole in most relationships where a man has children from previous marriage. Perhaps you can interview men who live in Phillipines in similar situation.

Very good video and appreciiate you sharing the info. I am paying really close attention to everything you would need to go through in order to get your USA driver license renewed. Two quick questions: (1) Did immigration ask you a lot of questions considering that you have been out of the country so long? and (2) What address can people who live overseas use for the renewed drivers license? I would think DMV would not want a philipppine address, so do you think they will accept one of those virtual USA addresses that a lot of expats use (that accepts mail in america, where that service can forward mail overseas)? I have one of those while living overseas, so really interested in knowing if fine to use something like that. Unsure if DMV will require to see a USA utility bill in my name or something to prove that I truly live in the USA state before they will issue the license.

As an American, I have been living overseas for 39 years and presently in the Philippines for 23 years. I have been returning home in the San Francisco area every year. Each year the news overseas reports scary news about the US that I am apprehensive about returning. I just returned to the Phil's 2 days ago and, as usual was very apprehensive about my 3-week stay in California. And again, all my fears were allayed. It was beautiful weather. People EVERYWHERE were polite and friendly. Food at supermarkets were comparable to prices in supermarkets in the Philippines and the shelves were all shockingly filled with abundance. The choices of products available were unimaginable. The streets were peaceful and had great morning walks on side-walks! Everywhere I went were beautifully manicure yards, organized, and peaceful. The driving was civilized. All family members were employed with promising jobs. I will admit that housing is expensive but they are all managing well with extra cash for pleasure and travel often. The restaurants were abundant with great food but at a considerablee amount more expensive than Philippine restaurants but the food was GREAT. I completely enjoyed each and every meal. I still enjoy living in the Philippines, but life in America still seems good.

T-Mobile was what I was going to do myself before I move down to you, but the rep at the counter when we were discussing PH he stopped and said "Oh no you can't sign up for the International plan." I said why not? and he said deep in their policy, if you don't connect to a US cell tower within 90 days we will first restrict your access and then after another 30 days we will cancel your plan. So bottom line is they are only offering it to people who are traveling not staying. So I am back to Square 1 trying to find a US phone number that might work year around in PH.
