I reported this to Phillips and they said go to your Dr. and let us know your medical damages. I know that I mentioned this to you in another video reply but it bears repeating. I have been an insurance agent for 37 years. There are many car and home claims in which smell has to be removed from a house or car. In homes (when a skunk dies in the crawl space for example) they use an ozone machine that oxidizes the air and removes the smell. In a car they can not use an ozone machine because the oxone oxidizes and destroys all the seals, gaskets and seat foam in the car. So, if Phillips used a foam in their machine that people are exposing to ozone, then that foam is being turned into dust by the process of being oxidized.

I fear that much like the skepticism in lankyleft's voice that there is more than meets the eye. I fear that the listed reasons for failure of the noise abatement foam from "ozone, ultraviolet, high heat and humidity" is just the tip of the iceberg for the cause of failure and there's much more beneath the surface. As time progresses I can only imagine the depth of knowledge and when it first truly came to light. Oh and for what it's worth I called my preferred dme - I was told to stop using the dream station and they'll call me back once they know what they're going to offer me. 🙄

I'm still paying for my Dreamstation ASV machine that I got in March. I've already bought back up hose, tank, & filters. Now I'm learning that my machine has a defect. Thankfully I've never used an ozone cleaner thanks to Lanky's videos. I don't want to keep paying for something SO expensive if I can't trust it. **Update** Just hung up with my DME and they seemed clueless at first, put me on hold, then tried to play it off as if they had a momentary lapse. They have referred me to their IT repair people and I should be hearing back soon. I made sure to explain that they don't need to "diagnose" anything. Just replace the foam with the new approved foam. I want to make sure they don't use old preexisting stock that is just more of the same old problem.

@@hyperlexis You obviously do not know how class action lawsuits work. People like me never get easy money (okay, maybe $10) from a class action lawsuit. What class action lawsuits do is hold large companies accountable when they make obvious bad decisions to benefit themselves. For example releasing information (a health risk in this case) purposely late so to increase sales of their new product (dreamstation 2).

Because of Philips foamgate, I experimented with stopping my CPAP use for a day and put on a Wellue O2 ring to check my oxygen drops through the night. I only had three significant drops to 90% without the machine. I wonder now if I actually need CPAP or even have serious hypopneas that require CPAP therapy. I wonder now if the fussy setup in the sleep test just made me highly anxious and brought up my hypopneas artificially. Maybe, I'll test my O2 levels another night and observe some more.

Switched over to the RESMED 10 as soon as I found out about this. It’s been three days and I no longer have lingering sore throat issues. CPAP supplier, doctor and medical insurance (my unit is less than 5 years old) all said it’s on Philips to replace. Thus, we have to register on Philips…as you said it’s in our hands. My worry is that I will have long term health issues due to inhaling this foam or gas for over 6 months. What’s more concerning is I found out about this recall because of a google recommendation. Never received a call from my doctor or an email/call/letter from Philips (yes I was registered with them as soon as I got my device).

Hi "Lefty" - paper here! lol I stopped using my Dreamstation and was in a roundabout way forced to purchase a Resmed Autoset 10. I got it set on auto everything, but then found my ears started ringing quite loud! So I set it on manual (fixed) setting with settings similar to my old dreamstation, which were slightly lower pressure and lower humidity and hose temp settings and I changed the "Relief" to 2 from 3. However, the ear ringing problem persisted but at a lower level. If you would be so kind, what do you think may be causing the high pitch ringing issue? The thought that came to my mind were; *higher pressure? *the different AHI extra pressure boost ( Dreamstation - a slow single puff) (Resmed Auto - a series of little puffs)? *maybe the Resmed gives higher hose and humidity temperatures? *that the Resmed might have a faster airflow because it's not restricted by two intake smaller filters like the Dreamstation (one coarse, one fine) and the "climate gate" thick sponge constricting airflow - whereas the Resmed has hardly any "foam gate" and only one large fairly coarse intake filter? Any thoughts with thanks Breaker

FYI. I received my dream station 2. It works fine . I did not like getting a black one. Hard to see at night. The hose is opposite side of reservoir and harder to open. I refill around 2 am. So I have to turn it around and fumble with a refill. Once done, it works fine.

Great report, I find it odd they say there is a low level of complaints - how do you know to complain if you don't know there is a problem. And yes, they certainly wrote the legal boiler plate in their favor How about paying for a physical exam including X-ray to see if you have had any contamination., or refund you cost of ozone cleaner if you bought one. For the moment I am glad I have Resmed. This just shows how big companies can roll over you and intimidate you after you have made them rich by buying their product. Not too many primary care doctors know that much about this or care. Plus I bet this recall is not known about by Medicare.

I’m using my old M-series machine which still seems to work great. Why doesn’t Philips and other manufacturers design their machines with both pre and post fan filters? There should be a filter designed at the end of the hose right where the hose connects to the mask/nose gear.

Hi Jason. Quick question. I have a first-generation dreamstation. I have been using it since 2018. It seems to me that when I get up in the morning I have a lot of whim to get out out of my system. I believe this may have something to do with the machine I am using. Which machine would you suggest changing to if I do change? Since the dreamstation 2 does not work with the Oscar program which one would? Also, I have data on an SD card that I would like you to look at for me. Good message. What about my son's C-Pap which was upgraded from an old one and traded in to a (supposedly) brand new Philips Respironic only to have his physician discover that the item number didn't match with his "brand new" c-pap but instead from a reused and refurbished c-pap -- yet permitted by law. How can we be sure that he will finally get a new and safe c-pap that is certainly due him? My son happens to be one of those sweet people where the dark cloud always seems to hang over his head while it is shining on everyone else. So here we go again.....

Because I knew it was going to be a nightmare, and also because I've bought, out of pocket, additional hoses and masks, I just sucked it up and put a ds2 on a credit card. When my ds1 eventually gets fixed, it will be my backup. I love my ds1 and I think this whole thing is outrageous and shameful. I shudder to think what the fallout is going to be in terms of lives and long term health consequences....

For the people needing to use their CPAP machines (which is probably the majority of us assuming not many are using their CPAP just for the fun of it) WHAT DO WE DO, before we get our machines repaired and/or replaced? Do we stop using our machine and risk not breathing at night or do we continue to use our machine hoping for the best while worrying that we might get some foam in our lungs? IS THERE ANY SORT OF AN IN BETWEEN OPTION THAT WOULD ALOW US TO BREATH AT NIGHT WHILE ALSO PREVENTING FOAM FROM ENTERING OUR AIRWAY UNTIL WE GET OUR MACHINE REPAIRED OR REPLACE?

Depends on your insurance and the DME contract. Most commercial insurance will rent for around 10 months and then its purchased; Medicare it converts to purchase at 13 months. Call your DME to find out if its already owned by you or how many months it takes to become yours.

Just curious why the recall is USA only, all other countries are on a "field safety notice" does that mean you should monitor the amount of foam particulate you are inhaling if you live outside the U.S. and speak to a foam particulate technician to decide if you should discontinue (throw the thing in the trash) your cpap therapy with the Dream Station

Hi Jason, thanks so much for your invaluable information, particularly regarding this important topic. I've asked another expert their opinion pertaining to my concerns but I would really appreciate your input. 1) I use a Philips Respironics Amara View mask in concert with my ResMed AirSense 10. Do you think the Amara mask itself is safe to use, and does not pose any health threat?. 2) Also, I only used a DreamStation for about a week and a half before going back to a ResMed. At the risk of sounding like an alarmist, do you think that perhaps it was too short of a time to get any adverse effects? I know you're not a doctor, and there is no guarantee, but I suppose I'm looking for any reassurace. Thanks for your input, Jason!

The issue is the PE-PUR foam that is used for sound abatement can degrade resulting in a host of issues including death Souce: FDA. I recommend requesting them to provide a shipping label to send your machine to a qualified testing facility for analysis. At their expense. Unless or until this testing is conducted, you and they don’t know for sure if you may have been breathing in dangerous VOC’s. Don’t loose chain of custody with your machine by returning it. Request Philips ship you a DreamStation II which uses silicone for sound abatement.
