Ok after playing through Ace Attorney, I think there is an underrated bit of wordplay: "We've been through worse right?" "Like Clockwork." In cases 1-1 and 1-2, the critical piece of evidence was a statue of the Thinker that was a clock made by Larry Butz, and Maya was the defendant in 1-2 So not only was it a reference to Maya's previous record of being framed for murder, it also references Larry Butz himself, and how he made a clock that ended up killing Maya's sister. Damn.

I love Edgeworth's solo so much. Not only is John phenomenal in all of his mannerisms and tone of voice, but it's so obvious what he's doing--Miles knows Phoenix works best under pressure. The whole song is a hoax to push him to think, really think, hence the whole "Better the devil you know, Wright" at the beginning. He's forcing Phoenix into a corner. The moment Wright gets desperate is the moment he thinks outside the box and finds the true killer. That's why Miles is prosecuting the case--he knows how to push until Phoenix thinks on his feet, and how to object his points until his case is airtight. And if you watch the way John gestures while singing, you can see it too--at 15:40, right after Phoenix says "Take it easy on me, Miles, whose side are you on?", he leans forward and makes direct eye contact. The tilt of his head, the modulation in the key, the sudden sincerity, all reading, "I am on your side. C'mon, Phoenix, *think.*" It's so good. Plus, it's catchy as hell. Anyway, I love it.
