For years I've been hammering home-specific statement when it comes to on-location portraits. "if you're in Paris at the Eiffel Tower....and you take.a picture in front of it....but you can't tell you're in Paris at the Eiffel tower...then what was the point of being in Paris at the Eiffel Tower???" The point of that statement is to remind you not to shoot the tightest portraits possible, especially when you find yourself in a cool location where the scene can play a part in your photo.

Those group photos at a table are always a challenge, so well done! Thanks for sharing these with us! That said: what's the story on Fro Pack 4?! I need 15 new presets to consider when editing my photos! I love Silvertide! But now I need something that enhances browns and other earthy tones. I also would like a preset that does those super-bright backlit portrait shots. Thanks again!

You'll probably never see this comment but we actually met up wayyy back in 2011 during one of your first Fro Tours through Boston. At the time I was going to school for photography, but only after spending years learning how to use a professional DSLR on manual through your OG how-to guides. I'm now a full time working professional photographer with 10+ years of experience under my belt and a portfolio I'm immensely proud of, and it's thanks to you for providing the necessary content to allow for a beginner to learn their way through the basics of exposure, etc. Thanks for the years of excellent work, man. It's greatly appreciated.

It's incredible how many professionals are afraid of sharing their experience, because they fear that they might lose a job. In my honest opinion, those are the worst kind of photographers to learn from. Always learn from those willing to share their knowledge into making you a better photographer, because it shows they have confidence in their work, and now their value in the market.

Jared, I enjoyed this video immensely. I was born in Paris (1954), so were my parents (both in the early 30's). I have always believed that black & white was the best way to describe Paris in the most AUTHENTIC manner. Your pictures almost got me emotional. Also, a deceased uncle was from Normandie. Double whammy. LOL Thank you for this video. You went beyond the technical aspects of photography and I really appreciated that. Thank you.

Jared… I think the best years of photography are behind us. The time when people had old DSLR’s shooting only photos no videos, only one shot at a time, no burst of shots, no fast AF, no Eye AF nothing. Nada… When the skill was important not the gear, not being opssesed by the new technology, but instead use what you own knowing it will last for years to come, thus mastering you art 😊 When the image you took was chalenging, respected… Today half of the world is shooting everything 😂

Thank you Jared! A very nice presentation with an array of variety and history. Today would be my late Father's 99th birthday. He was a decorated Army Infantry soldier from World War II. He never talked about his arrival on Omaha Beach on D-Day and the injuries he sustained as those around him were slaughtered on the beach. He loved nature and the open doors, was raised on a farm and would appreciate the photo you posted of how Omaha Beach has been restored to a pristine condition from its bloody, mechanized mess of 1944. Photographers leave a printed legacy of history and a moment frozen in time for generations to learn from. Thanks for teaching the next generation of photographic historians. Merci! - Jim

Also, a small focal length + bigger distance to a subject make a quadratic impact on the depth of field while the aperture has a linear effect. The depth of field at 14mm f/2 is the same as 28mm at f/8. You may have to crop, but you'll get better light and more people in focus when you keep in mind the DOF formula. It's nice when you can do the exact math before taking a shot, or you can remember a few configurations to ensure that everybody is mathematically in focus.

About the dog picture, in my opinion, the fact that you managed to get the blurr on the person passing to convey movement gives all the meaning to the photo even if the dog is not purely super sharp, I don't care. But, I think, and that's just me, that modern cameras with burst mode take a bit the fun of photography away since you can shoot and almost surely get what you want. Sometimes we miss great opportunities and sometimes we are at the right place at the right moment to capture something.
