Amen on the wood, I don't buy any farm trailer's unless they've got wood. One rail on my stakebed farm trailer busted yesterday. 1 hour of work today with some scrap 2x4s I had laying around the barn and woodshop and a brand new stakebed rail haha. Much easier than welding together new metal. I'm betting you're close to me as well. I'm over in Ashe County at ~3500ft elevation haha. We had snow last night on 05/08/2020.

"Don't wanna say we grew up poor, we didn't want for anything but we didn't know any different . . . " Yep. Totally on board with that, got the T-Shirt an' ever'thing. I'm in the UK. Born '65. My folks were Farm Labourers and we lived in a 'tied cottage' (House owned by the farm for workers only) most of my childhood. We had open fire heating, which also provided the Hot Water, on the ground floor but none upstairs which you *really* felt in winter. Cooking was done on a kitchen range, wood fired. Basic food. Basic clothing. Basic possessions, wasn't a TV in the place 'til @ '78 but we had the wireless "This is the BBC!". Occasionally we'd get to go up to the 'Big House' . . . . Man, what a contrast.

You could get an aluminum grating used for walkways that won't let things slide at all. It's used in water, wastewater and probably industrial plants. We had some at a plant I worked that had been there for 50 years and wasn't worn down. It was rated for 200+ lbs per square foot, of course on top of the steel deck that wouldn't be a problem.

You can bolt a new hard edge on the bucket. From what you showed the holes are still useable. As far as a welder I would go for a Miller 225 amp . Check with the suppliers to see if they have any in the rental fleet for sale . I got one for $900. that was less then a year old. New its around $1600.

That nomenclature plate on the tractor is the one you depend on to find out which model it is as the one on the loader is just for that model loader. I learned how to operate tractors while working for one man who owned a new 1965 Massey Ferguson and I loved that tractor so much and treated it like it was mine. The owner's son was the one who abused his tractor and that made me angry and left me thinking that I would never treat one of mine that way.

You can spray the deck with rough epoxy or even put that "sand paper tape" like on skateboards. You can buy it in sheets. You can also drill some holes in it for tire block/pucks to go threw and cotter pin the bottom. (Think of a mushroom. The top part is the tire block/puck and the bottom goes threw the floor and you cotter threw the bottom so it doesn't pull out until you want it out by removing the cotter pin.
