Excellent advice. 66yo been playing 2 years, when I first started my mind said I was 25 yo again, Big wake-up call after a few trip slip falls, and how long it took to fully recover. Spent time watching Phys.therapy videos for recovery. Since then I do all the things you mentioned and it’s made a world of difference. Do you know CPR? Over my dead body😂

Great video docs! Exacerbation = Exasperation! Bahaha. No really, I loooooove playing pickleball (PB) and make sure I give myself 20 minutes to stretch before I go on court. Particularly my Achilles tendons. Many people fall when running backwards to reach a ball that’s gone over the head. Unless you have good agility just let that shot go - it isn’t worth falling. Definitely invest in court shoes. These are designed for the types of movement specific to volleyball, badminton, pickleball and tennis.

Great advice, Docs. Getting proper instruction is the key to avoiding tennis elbow and overuse injuries. Proper technique keeps the effort in the large muscle groups and prevents injuries. With my tennis clients, the number one issue is guiding them into fundamentals that prevent injury. In Pickleball and tennis that means turning your shoulders sideways on all shots, taking pressure off the shoulder, elbow and lower back. Also, this makes shots more efficient.
@gg801088 ай бұрын
Turning your shoulders sideways on all shots? NOT really the game is mostly played with your feet parallel to the kitchen line. Keep your elbow in, your paddle in front of you. The object is to take opponent time away, not try to hit this passing shot, that takes all this time to setup.

Ache like crazy all over after class b/c you use many different muscles but it doesn’t last. Just so excited that I can run a little since my surgeries. Just trying to keep ball in play without hurting myself. Being too competitive will lead to injuries so just trying to enjoy my new knees.

Stress fracture 3rd & 4th metatarsal. I walked on it (albeit painfully) for 2 months as repeated xrays didn’t show it. I had an MRI to confirm. Boot and a bone stimulator for months afterwards. The hard lesson: YOU NEED PICKLEBALL SHOES. The support on the dorsal part of the foot is similar to a volleyball shoe. Tennis/regular court shoes are insufficient. They have outdoor and indoor pickleball shoes.
@gosman9498 ай бұрын
Around here in Texas, we mostly do pickle ball inside on wood floors. With the proper shoes, I would go further and say use racquetball shoes. Not running shoes. I know so many people that have slipped on wood floors with regular tennis shoes. The gum sole racquetball shoes are the best!

Pickleball Prowess: A Rhyme of Health and Success In the world of pickleball, we've got the game, But beware of injuries that could bring you shame. From strains to acute pains, we've seen it all, But with proper prep, you won't take a fall. First, consult your doc, get the green light, Before hitting the court, make sure it's right. Train up, go slow, and learn the ropes, Don't rush in too fast, avoid the slopes. Hydrate, hydrate, with water in hand, Keep sipping all day, just as you've planned. Stretch it out, limber up, before you play, Dynamic moves keep injuries at bay. Once on the court, play with care, Don't push too hard, be aware. Proper technique, it's the name of the game, Learn how to play, master the aim. But if you're hurt, don't ignore the sign, Take a break, let your body realign. Don't exacerbate, don't worsen the pain, Rest and recover, don't play in vain. With pickleball prowess, you'll shine bright, Avoiding injuries with all your might. So hit the court with confidence, skill, and grace, And pickleball glory will be your embrace.

I played professional soccer in Europe...Some minor injuries here and there but nothing broken or serious considering the sport.... I have developed a mild case of Achilles tendonitis AND 3 months ago I tore one of my peroneal tendons that go through my foot. I was lucky because WE dont need that tendon. No surgery.....But you get the idea. ADVICE: You need to keep up...Go to the gym, lift weights, bike, swim, etc in order to maintain your body otherwise you are in for trouble.

I’ve heard people get injuries when players don’t stay in their own bubble of space and whack each other with the racquet. Crowded spaces with many inexperienced people new to the sport, can also make for a chaotic mess of movement in disorganized random directions causing collisions. To avoid injury make sure you play partners with someone who know where their body is in the space, so you aren’t accidentally hit. Pickleball is really popular, great topic. 🥒ball

Really need help figuring this out. Waiting on blood work. Knee X-rays came back ok... looking for direction.

How soon can I try pickle ball after total hip replacement? Posterior approach. I’m a 54 year old man and was/am very active. Swimming, stair master, walking, occasional tennis, push mowing the lawn, etc. I’m almost 12 weeks out from surgery.
@redhen6898 ай бұрын
I think the biggest concern is falling. My sister had a hip replacement last year, and then went on vacation 6 weeks later and she was allowed to do most activities at that point, but cautioned to avoid falling, so you could probably play if you can play a bit more reserved. Let it go rather than going for difficult shots.

Hey Docs, great segment, on Pickle ball, have I spelt it correctly?…..I want to burst into laughter, when I hear the “pickle ball” in the UK we call pickleds gherkins☕️🤣🤣I’m finally getting treatment for my rotator cuff, I know I should have seen to it a couple of years ago, but I let it slide. I fell, (was pushed) out of bed 5 weeks ago. X-rays showed nothing,but the swelling in of thumb & around the base of my thumb, was persistent. So I went back to A & E, I was referred for an MRI scan. It seems I’ve done something to my scaphoid bone, in the orthopaedic dept, they want to treat with injections,rather than surgery. I’m only 60 & wonder why I can’t have surgery. I’m relatively healthy apart from a full knee replacement of the left knee. As usual your continued info on all things bodily knows no , I mean who knew we were sgonna receive a full breakdown on gherkin ball🥰🥒⚽️

I think it's amazing that pickleball has been around for 59 years and I've only heard about it in the past few months!🤔 My first thought was, what the heck is a pickleball! I imagined something that looked like a pickle.🥒 And what kind of racket would accommodate a pickle.😳 I've always loved those big dill pickles, I would always get one when I went to the movies. After a while I was given a snow cone cup with dill pickle juice. I found so many places where I could get a single dill pickle!😋 But I can't imagine a pickle being used in as a sport.🤯 It made no sense to me. I'm so glad you explained this phenomenon! I'm also glad no pickles were harmed in making this video! I'll probably never participate in this sport because I wear flipflops most of the year.🩴 I played tennis years ago. The last time I played, I sprained my ankle and had to wear a boot. I haven't picked up a tennis racket since then. In fact, I've never picked up any type of racket since then. Even though the ball isn't shaped like a pickle, I can't risk getting hit in the eye. Thanks for this enlightening talk about pickleball! Thanks but no thanks, I'm not going to try it.😉
