Watch Part 2 here: • “Amber Heard Is A GOLD...
Actor and former boxer Mickey Rourke joins Piers Morgan Uncensored for a fascinating interview in which he becomes emotional discussing his thoughts on the war in Ukraine and Vladimir Putin.
Rourke begins by discussing how the pandemic helped him regain focus on helping himself by working out, reading and "soul searching". After Piers asks what he's learned most about himself, he begins to explain the everlasting effects of the abuse he faced when he was a teenager, telling us "you live in shame and become a broken soul... or you get hard".
The pair then discuss Tom Cruise, with Rourke branding the Mission Impossible star "irrelevant", saying he has more respect for actors like Al Pacino and Robert de Niro.
Piers then asks about the war in Ukraine and Vladimir Putin, leading to Rourke recounting a time he met the Russian leader in 2014 at a children's hospital. The actor becomes tearful as he tells Piers he doesn't understand how or why Putin is causing such destruction in Ukraine and tells a very moving story.

What's fascinating to me is that Rourke once upon a time did work alongside De Niro and more than held his own as an actor. Rourke, unlike Cruise, actually had the talent (not just the looks) to become a legend like De Niro and Pacino and squandered it. Cruise, while capable of solid performances with the right material, never quite seemed to have the talent to become such a legendary actor, even though he was capable of reaching super stardom by playing to his strengths well. When we compare the current careers of Cruise and Rourke, it's obvious that Rourke's last good effort was "The Wrestler" 14 years ago and "Sin City" 17 years ago (and that came after a long string of absolute duds), whereas Cruise in the same timespan had almost nothing but universally acclaimed movies or megahits with at least 2 more coming up. Not to mention life choices and how healthy each of them seems, considering their age. Like it or not, that's the truth. And Rourke has nobody but himself to blame for how things turned out. So, ironically, this whole interview in which Rourke, among other things, calls Cruise irrelevant, comes off as nothing but a desperate attempt from Rourke himself to somehow be relevant.

12:00 for context: Mickey had a brother who died after a long illness (cancer I believe) He told the story on “inside the actor’s studio” …he was at his brother’s side every day as he was dying. One day the hospice nurse who was attending to his brother told Mickey, “he’s only alive now because of you, he needs your permission to go, he needs you to tell him it’s ok…”. Mickey did, and his brother passed away hours later. More context: Some of Mickey’s deepest and strongest relationships on this planet have been with his dogs… Knowing this, when he started talking about the old Ukrainian man and his kitten, I knew he was going to lose it. He’s a good guy who has been in pain for a long time. I wish him nothing but happiness.

Tom Cruise is having one of the most successful and lengthy careers in the film business, and there's no end in sight. His reputation among his peers and fans is unmatched. Those are facts. Mickey Rourke has been a phenomenal actor. His performance in "The Wrestler" is one of the best in movie history. His reputation among his peers is extremely sketchy, he doesn't show up for events promoting his films, he's a nightmare on the set, and he's coked out of his mind. Those are facts too. Mickey Rourke calling Tom Cruise "irrelevant" is absurd. Irrelevant to what? Cause he sure is relevant to the fans and the box office!!

This isn't even about Tom Cruise. It's about how fragile the human spirit is, that a man, who was abused in his childhood is still carrying the weight of all that pain and still trying to unravel his soul from all the confusion it caused. I actually feel a little ashamed that my first instinct was to find the first few minutes comical. I'm so glad I sat on my impulse to switch to something else to watch. @@anne1181 - Tom is a great actor but too much was played and expected based on how he looked and at times you can tell he is aware of that when shooting because that is why they cast him. So those 'dead eyes' are intentional and you see that more with actresses in my experience since it put more of them to be and look 'pretty' at all times, not much expression in the face and eyes. Johnny dep, Keanu Reeves, Brad Pitt, Leonard D all have moves with those same 'dead eyes' so they don't break character TO displaying actual HUMAN emotion, and many of these actors hated that. This has been one of the number one complaint of many actors throughout time - it's limiting to them, thus frustrating, just like 'cancel culture' is. This is why people like Patterson when into Indi films to develop his skill of what he came in to do, act and have a variety of ideas and opinions!

Cruise has more range than generally perceived, as seen in Magnolia, Vanilla Sky, Collateral. But success always remained a more important part of his career than the artistic part. De Niro did it the other way around - did the artistic stuff for the first 40-50 years of his life. And when he got older and left his prime, he began having big commercial success by starring in idiotic comedy flicks. Same with Gary Oldman. Maybe Cruise should have done it the other way around when he reached 40, but instead he kept going with the Mission Impossibles and Jack Reachers.

I completely agree with you that Cruise's range is often overlooked. You can add Tropic Thunder, Edge of Tomorrow, Rain Man, American Made and Born on the fourth of July to that list, as well. I have no problems with Cruise doing it this way round. Its often sad seeing De Niro undermine his near Immortal legacy, with crap like Dirty Granpa, The war with Grandpa, The adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle, Little Fockers etc. I'd like to see Tom Cruise take on mature and adult oriented dramas and thrillers now. As he enters his 7th decade, it would be great to see him take on films that push his acting limits, as opposed to his physical limits. He can still do blockbuster movies here and there. However he's in a unique position, where he's still a big draw and dependable. So a director like Scorsese, Scott, PTA, Villeneuve, Inarritu could attach him to a well constructed drama/thriller and get him that much deserved Oscar.

Not sure how old you are, but you've said a few things that are not accurate. Both Mickey and Tom come from 2 different places. This interview was not just about Tom Cruise but Piers brought it up that way to get him to say something silly. Mickey is also right in many ways about Tom Cruise, even though I enjoyed most of Toms movies throughout the years up until late 2000s. Then it was studio flicks and role reprisals for money and also probably bc there were no good scripts, which talent seems to be dying as less people get involved for creativity being stifled over money, and studios doing remakes or only making films for money (which they've always done, but creative people still came up with the projects). Also there's been a shift to streaming services which has played a role as well. As much as Mickey seems strange these days, he was an incredible actor truky dedicated to his craft and NEVER gave a fuck about money -- this is what separated him from most of Hollywood, and most of the kids in these comments that equate material wealth to things that actually matter. Money doesnt make you more of a man.... and you can't buy good character. Just look at the degeneracy with rappers and others who make money these days and have zero to offer the world. Mickey has always been about the art of acting rather than taking roles bc of studios. And again that's not to say Tom Cruise isn't dedicated bc he's gotten some of the best scripts and dedicated himself immensely. To correct you, saying DeNiro cared about the art for 50 years is incorrect. He's acted for 50+ years total, and after about 27/28 years was when he started doing comedies. Tom Cruise did the same, he made it after taking on serious roles like Deniro, except he did it about 10 years after.

I am so sick of reading his distorted lies through the years. He also has always had a bad temper, growing up would punch walls if he didn't get his way. He is 3 years older than me. Mickey is a great actor, It's sad that he's in so much pain. This man deserved a better chance earlier in life, regardless of the fame that he has. If someone took him under their wing earlier, he may not be so bitter and clearly upset over almost everything. Maybe its not too late. I hope after this interview a kind soul can reach out to him. Cheers.

Mickey has to let go of the hard life, that is what he didnt like about his up bringing, but its what he knows best, we are all subject to monkey see monkey do, this is why faith is important, to put the monster we built in shotgun, to only come out when it is absolutely necessary and not a way of life

Barrie Poole .. With all due respect man , a lot of people tried to take Mickey under their wings , Sly , Bob De Niro and Robert Rodriguez ..to name just a few , but he just squandered his golden chances with them by simply turning his head other direction. The issue is … Mickey , HIMSELF … he is a rebellious soul , always has been and his outspokenness even cost him an Oscar back in 2009 , so it went to Sean Penn instead.. The truth is he just doesn’t have an OFF switch, so I guess forget about anybody taking him under their wing ..like ever. . Tough , but it is what it is … you never spit in the well from which you drink !

One of his greatest early roles was in “The Pope Of Greenwich Village”, which everyone should see. It’s hard to believe that this is the same guy, I’m very sorry to say. Nonetheless, I respect him very much and deeply enjoy the great acting talent that he displayed in his earlier films, which remain classics to this day. That is the iconic Mickey Rourke of my youth that I will always remember, and I wish him all the best.

And Diner was great. I know the REAL Mickey. He is my stepbrother. He has always been in a rage against everything ever since his Mother left his Father who was a drunk in Skenectedy NY to marry my Father. His interview was a lie. He didn't leave home at 14, he graduated from Beach Higfh just like all 9 of us did. His hate for my Father who gave him a life will never end. My Dad, a Cop, now deceased, Mickey hates him because he always told him to act like a Man because he was always fake crying. He claims abuse, that is bs, his Mommy , my wicked step mother was abusive to all 5 of my Fathers children, she protected Mickey, Patti. and Joey. Mickey has been lying about this story since he made his first movie. He has made a lot of really great movies, too bad he abandoned his own Family included his biological ones. Mickey was very abusive, I had plenty od bruises from him punching my arms growing up. He liked to fight. We were a large family living in Miami Beach, he didn't grow up in Liberty City either. That is a huge lie. Remember, he IS an actor. He could always throw on those tears too, ever since he was 7. C'mon Mickey, stop your bullshit. Even after all these years , Dad is dead, do you even know that my Father passed on Christmas day? Time to start telling the truth instead of acting like a bleeding heart Trump hating Liberal.

I do know that I read an online article a few weeks ago by his former manager that said Cruise was quite full of himself to put it mildly and this was before he was even in Scientology. TC's former manager showed him some articles on Cruise in a few teen magazines and reportedly threw them in disgust saying that he didn't want to be seen in them. Mickey is obviously being really contrite and honest here about everything he's gone through despite being rough around the edges and he's right, people in power really don't give a damn whether it's Hollywood or politics...including the "cancel culture".

Mickey Rourke, such a sad shame. Hard life but so many opportunities. He was a good looking guy a promising career and it all went wrong for him. He messed up because he wasn't treated right or given the tools in life. Then seeing the same sh*t go down around him, he raged against the machine. I've respect for that. He displays real empathy, true caring and brought a lump to my throat and tears to my eyes. The old man and kitten are meant to be together ✌
