Listening to the conversation, I thought that the pill should be available everywhere except the United States. They need to first regain control over their over-industrialised agriculture, processed food as a way of life and the resulting obesity epidemic. Then, those who actually can benefit from the pill, should be able to get it easily. But the US really needs to deal with why they're committing collective national suicide first. And the problem is not anywhere near as pronounced at the coasts as it is everywhere else in the middle, and that's why it's not on the agenda. No one in the media or celebrity realms ever sees or cares about.the vast middle America and its suicidal lifestyles.
@nbrown59073 ай бұрын
No, no truly safe way to do that. I went from 235 to 180 in the last year by not eating highly processed foods and limiting added sugar intake to no more than 25 grams a day. I am healthier than someone who takes a pill to lose weight.

The irony is so alarming here. We transformed the culture of food. We heavily processed our food, flood them with preservatives, and genetically engineered/ hybridized fruits/ veggies to produce more sugar and carbohydrates contents. After we found out we are screwing things up, we develop a method to NOT eat our food, instead of correcting our food culture and lifestyle.

@@cobrakaier238It actually states it’s a debate in the description of the program. Regardless a debate should never turn into shouting match. I respect your point of view and we might not agree after chatting on here but obviously there should be no hard feelings between us. Just FYI here is the definition of a debate: “a formal discussion on a particular topic in a public meeting or legislative assembly, in which opposing arguments are put forward”. I’m not sure if you’ve watched Piers Morgan’s panel who actually turn a debate about the Netflix Series “Baby Reindeer” into a complete nightmare. There is one female panel member who is just looking for a verbal fight with every single other member. She honestly ruins it. So it’s more about the way the participants act as opposed to whatever you want to call it. My doctor gave me Ozempic late last fall because I was tested and found to be borderline diabetic. I took it four times and had to quit. Every muscle and joint in my body started to give me terrible pain. After about a week and a half the pain went away. Than a month later, I had appendicitis, one of the possible effects of Ozempic. The appendix burst, and I now I am still trying to recover from that whole thing. But, I went on the carnivore end of the Keto diet instead of any other diet after I came home. Now, my blood-sugar is now normal, and I have lost 25 pounds.

Eating the same diet as before, I gained 25 pounds in less than 5 months while participating in 4-6 dance classes and performances weekly, two swim classes and taking 3 flights of stairs to my dorm room and in the academic buildings. Previously, I enjoyed food, but didn't think about it a lot. Only after the pounds had piled on did I find myself battling intense carb cravings and making poor food choices. Our bodies can malfunction and medically treating obesity-related issues is no different than you using an estrogen medication.

I HAD THOUSANDS OF EXPERIENCES WITH PEDOPHILES as a kid but back then nobody talked about these things and I had no idea what happened.. for example my fathers customers getting me to sit on their laps and their hands being in the wrong place.. and me sitting on their hand.. I refused to sit on their laps because it was weird but I didn’t know they were pedophiles. It’s always been difficult for me to lose weight because of PCOS, Hashimoto’s, and mobility issues from CIDP. Like everyone on the panel was saying, I agree that this medication needs to be overseen by a doctor, and probably not used by people who are just looking to lose 15-20lbs, but those with serious weight and/or medical issues.

@robertdulany68113 ай бұрын
It must be usable ty those looking to lose 15 to 20 lbs, because otherwise you are requiring people to harm their health. I saw this with a friend of mine, his obesity wasn't serious enough for bariatric surgery, so he gained the 20lbs to qualify. He was 260lbs and had to be 280lbs to qualify as class 3. As a person who has both been normal weight and obese, the idea that I cannot take action when I see the weight coming on - is ridiculous and wrong. When you get within 20lbs of your goal, should they take the medication from you? Why would you be required to lose access to your medication if it was working and you were nearing your goal?
@lollygaggins63163 ай бұрын
@@robertdulany6811 if you have already been on the medication, due to obesity, I’m not saying they should take it from you when you lose the weight and are in sight of your goal. If you have been obese, you will probably need the medication as some sort of treatment for awhile once you reach your goals. You would need to work with your doctor to wean off of it if possible. I’m talking about not prescribing it to the people who were never obese in the first place. Those who just have 10-20lbs to lose and don’t have medical complications. Right now, there are tens of thousands of these prescriptions going out making it difficult for people like me to get my prescription on time. For me, the difference can be life and death because I’m diabetic.

Overeating is usually caused by psychological issues, not because people don’t understand how to stay healthy. @vhopine37763 ай бұрын
Kidney failure is a known side effect of diabetes so I'm not sure that one can definitively say that Ozempic rather than diabetes led to your friend's dialysis. Perhaps if vomiting left her chronically dehydrated? Before all the publicity, I let a sample of Ozempic expire in my fridge because I was afraid to try it after reading about the nausea issues so I'm neither defending nor demonizing the drugs. Having said that, I lost 100 pounds w/o weight loss drugs or surgery and have kept it off for several years. That weight loss stopped as my mobility has been impaired by progressive congenital scoliosis, spinal stenosis, and chemo-induced peripheral neuropathy impacting my balance. I can no longer swim laps as my congenitally malformed shoulders are both frozen. Add in severe Fibromyalgia for 35 years and just maintaining my weight loss is a challenge so I would love a drug that reduces my appetite. Ironically, refined carbs reduce my pain. Seratonin maybe?

Who the heck cares how someone sees you? If you are cycling up a hill you are carrying 30 lbs more than everyone else and you will lose that race. Now, your turn to say who the heck cares about your cycling performance. The problem is not 150, it's probably more around 180lbs. However, as a person who has gone up and down in life...one either carries a lot of extra fat, or one doesn't. Picking some mid-point and saying I want to carry 30 extra pounds is fine - I doubt it impacts health that much. But I wouldn't see any reason to do it. It doesn't help mobility, it doesn't aid blood pressure, it's closer to being in danger, while not actually being dangerous itself. Losing weight long before one absolutely requires it, isn't for everyone, but it is going to be an appealing healthy choice for some, for someone who has been obese and wants to avoid it happening again.

He has a bit of short term memory loss now but he lives on his own and drives etc. Now they put him back on it and he is slowly becoming weaker and weaker. He walks like he's 100 and having trouble getting out of a chair. He also is having trouble with balance. Just a year ago he was walking 2 miles a day on a treadmill and 2 years ago he was walking 4 miles on the treadmill 3 times a week. The change has been swift and everyone will read this and say oh its just his age but I dont believe that. Ozempic is ruining his life.

Muscle loss happens with any rapid weight loss, not just semaglutide. You can mitigate it by increasing protein and strength training. I have connective tissue disorders and exercising without injury is difficult for me, but i do physical therapy and this has helped me keep and even increase my muscle mass while losing fat. I also eat carefully and take collagen to get more protein.

Out of general interest: What connective tissue disorder do you have and what type of collagen are you using and why?
@jennapreston65093 ай бұрын
@matsinilsson9578 i have hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, and another comorbid disorder called lipedema. I take a couple of collagen supplements that i get at Costco because my doctor recommends that i take collagen. It won't fix my problems, but it doesn't hurt me and does help me get enough protein, as i have trouble eating very much meat during meals.

@matsinilsson9578 my apologies, i thought i replied to this but it must not have posted. I have hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and Lipedema. I also had my thyroid removed due to cancer, for what thats worth. My doctor encourages taking a collagen supplement since my body cannot produce normal collagen. It wont fix my problems, but it doesnt hurt me and it helps ensure i get enough protein since i have trouble eating very much meat in my 1 meal per day

I use a couple of different collagen powders that i get at costco. I velieve vital proteins is one of the brands

@@jennapreston6509 Sorry about your condition. It is none of my business at the end of the day. People do what they do. However, it is really weird to me as research scientist running clinical trials that your family physician or a specialist is suggesting collagen supplementation when there is no evidence in support. Eating collagen that is broken down in your gut into peptides and amino acids will not replace faulty collagen production in EDS. However, a high quality protein supplement (not an incomplete protein like collagen), such as whey or casein, will mitigate age-related muscle loss so that is a good bet for your general health. It is really difficult to navigate the supplement jungle but always follow scientific evidence. Not word of mouth, "helpful" social media influencers or even friends or obscure websites. It takes effort and quality control. Difficult for most. I wish you the best, lots of happiness and good health Jenna! Best wishes, Mats

I think its disgusting that Golnesa is 176 cm in height, but has openly said in front of potentially thousands of viewers that 140 pounds or 63kgs is "very large". That is an excat example of the dangerous eating disorder narrative the panel was warning about and why ozmpec needs to be heavily regulated!!!

5 foot 7 and 140 is not heavy.. that is crazy to me… I was 5 foot 6 and 145 lbs at 26 and I did not think I was heavy at all.. I am now at 5 foot 5 1/2 twenty years later ( I am shrinking with age lol) and would love to get down to 150 that’s my goal… 50 lbs to go.

We should be talking about the food industry not just fast food. We need to talk about agriculture and how there's been a shift in how food is grown. We need to talk about processed food and how it's over 50% of the market space in grocery stores.

I begrudgingly started Ozempic and im so glad i did! It has helped me tremendously. I have type2 diabetes and my numbers are so much lower! I have lost weight. About 15lbs..BUT i go 2 the gym 5 x a week and have changed my eating and drinking habits. I finally feel hope for the future. I never realized I could achieve weight loss. I have diabetes and PCOS and it makes it so hard. Im not doing anything I wont keep up with. Not starving myself! Portion control and being more active is easy at this point. ❤

That's great to hear of your success. Type 2 diabetes and PCOS both result from insulin resistance. Eating low carb from now on will put them both into remission and ensure they don't come back. Good luck!

Intermittent Fasting Intermittent fasting is a healthy sensible way to get that dam Fat cells to shrink. 30 years after taking the slow path to health, with fresh veggies, resistance training and walking. We can curb our appetite.....no junk foods, no sugar, no snacks. Ozempic if you are not diabetic, is insane to take, we need muscles...but Ozempic reduces much needed muscles.

I've been taking this shot for 6 months and I've lost 30 pounds. I took a few weeks off because I had a procedure and didn't notice an increase in appetite. My stomach is smaller and my unhealthy relationship with food is starting to heal.

Not all of us have mobility. Some of us are disabled. It's an unavoidable curse that we gain weight because we can't walk and/or bcz exercise is very painful.

Bizarre how one woman keeps comparing Botox or hair dye with Ozempic! I wonder also what kind of side effects people will have such as vitamin deficiency, osteoporosis, dementia, mental illness. It sounds like people still eat junk food, but less of it. 😳

Agree. Comparing hair dye with Ozempic was so absurd. I wonder what Dr Fung thought about this 😅

Hi Piers, I have been on a mission to lose weight since November 15, 2023. My motivation was so that I could get a knee replacement. I was told by my orthopedic surgeon that I needed to lose 16 pounds before he could give me the knee surgery. Anyway, as of this morning 5/29/24 I have lost approximately 70 pounds. I feel that I need to get rid of another 30-40 pounds. My relationship to food has changed and that needs to be for the rest of my life. My general practitioner offered to give me a prescription for Ozempic. I told him “thanks but no thanks”. In some instances, people really need to take it. However, I am really learning to 40:10 eat healthy foods as opposed to processed foods. I am learning to have more self-discipline regarding food. I am grateful to my orthopedic surgeon for telling me that he could not do my knee replacement until I lost 16 pounds. He did me a TREMENDOUS favor by telling me that. I am lucky, I am only on one drug- high blood pressure. I am on the lowest dosage of the blood pressure pill. With time ( and more weight loss I hope to be getting off of that too! Elizabeth in Texas
