Poor John. Having been subject to so many awful journalists' interviews. Best approach to interviewing anyone, certainly John, is to simply have a conversation!

***** What's evil about acting for financial gain when the actions only require voluntary action from others? No one was forced to pay £145 for his book, and those that did, have done so voluntarily. If the music industry want to pay him large sums of money to present a version of the persona that he has developed, assuming the money paid is private money, there is no act of evil. An act of evil is when an individual is forced to act against their own judgment not for their benefit, but for the benefit of others, especially when it is claimed as a "right". John ripped off no one. A government demanding taxes so they can bail out their friends whose businesses should have been allowed to fail is an act of evil. The opposite of evil by my standard is good. By what standard do you measure good and evil? Judging by your comment, I would think that your standard amounts to whim. If that's true, then I would conclude by saying whim worship is evil. So what is your standard between good and evil?

Wow, John was VERY merciful with the interviewer here. If the dude could have managed to keep his line of questioning coherent and topically on-point, he could have probably gotten one of the best interviews ever with Mr. Lydon. In fact, right up till the 1:30 mark, things appear to be going extremely well, all round. But then something happens, and Joe Journalist suddenly drops the ball; and not just for a moment, but for the entire rest of the interview! And even amidst the guy's fumbling and casting about, Lydon remains a decent sport, even though he clearly knows his time is being wasted.

I didnt find either of them that rude or confrontational, but having watched the video again, I may have been a bit hard on the interviewer. He's trying, but seems nervous, leaning too heavily on the question list. He's having difficulty engaging the interviewee. A more candid approach would probably have got better results. Just nervous/self-conscious, probably.

Crappy interview. It sounds like the interviewer had a list of bulleted questions and he wasn't interested in moving off from the questions on the list. Huge jump in questions even after Johnny makes some interesting statements that would be worth following up with another question.

I'm astounded at how patient Johnny was with this clearly unseasoned interviewer. I guess maybe the regular guy knew enough about John Lydon to know you have to be either nuts or really on your game to interview him and was trying to stick it to this guy for some reason.

Could they not have found someone with at least "some" grey matter? Asking the right sort of questions, or not, you would be hard pressed to find a more interesting and clever subject

This should be shown to any aspiring journalism students. The art of a good interview is to ask open ended questions and get the point of view of the interviewee. Almost all the questions this guy asks could have been responded to in writing as they are closed in nature.
