Nonprofessional here. Thanks for the video. My standard poodle had a 5 cm x 5 cm pilomatricoma tumor surgically removed from his tail recently. (Apparently, Poodles and Kerry Blue Terriers are predisposed to pilomatricomas.) The slides on his pathology report look just like yours. The tumor appeared in February and was removed 7 months later, in August. It's unclear whether or not all of the tumor was removed. The pathologist reported that neoplastic cells extend to tissue margins in some fragments of the removed tissue. The surgeon referred us to an oncologist in an abundance of caution. Better safe than sorry. Although I'm not your target audience, I feel that I'll be better able to understand what the oncologist says and hopefully ask more informed questions. Thank you for that!

I’m so happy that it was helpful! I only know a bit about dog pathology. I’ve seen some skin tumor slides from dogs. They have a lot of overlap with human skin tumors but I’m sure there are some differences that I’m not aware of. But for humans at least, pilomatricoma is a benign tumor. I see them relatively often. Usually the margins are positive on the specimens I see, but personally I don’t feel that they need to be fully removed with negative margins since they are benign and only occasionally do they recur (grow back). If that happens, the tumor can just be surgically removed again. If my child had one and margins were positive, I think I would just leave it alone. Please discuss with your vet so they can help you make the decision that is right for you and your dog. But I hope this info helps you in thinking through things. Best wishes for health and happiness for you and your dog!

@@himnisha1107 Hi Mr.Himnish..I hope that you and your daughter are doing well. I m so sorry to hear about your daughter, I'm not a medical advisor, still a resident in training, the following is my opinion...pilomatricomas are benign adnexal skin tumors, simple removal is helpful, however if multiple lesions are present or in the face I can imagine how frustrating that is...it can be removed by other means but I'll let Dr.Gardner, @Jerad Gardner, to answer that. However, the only thing that concerns me is that multiple pilomatricomas can be associated with underlying syndromes, especially in children...I hope that she will get well soon.
