As a Who fanatic and Pinball Wizard was an integral part of my growing up as a teenager back in the sixties , saw this and thought it would be a laugh to see how badly they did it. But when they began the hairs on the back of my neck stood up and realize how good a musicianTownsend was back then. A true great song (unlike the absolute dirge youngsters now grow up on now) is only truly musically great in that it can be given a performance like this and magic still shines through.
@TR4zest7 ай бұрын
When you say dirge, do you know that there is a calendar age we reach when all new music is rejected and dismissed. It is somewhere in our 30s. The mind just closes to new musical ideas.
@wakeupuk38607 ай бұрын
@@TR4zest As a child, as a teenager as with those I grew up with in the 1960s, I enjoyed and listened, BBC Radio Light and sing-songs with my Cockney family of music going back to the 1910/20/30s, liked it then and still like it now. My parents and teachers (some who had been WW2) who would be in charge of our school Youth club also enjoyed the Beatles, Stones, Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix. I later in life becoming a teacher would often play my 1960/70s pop music to pupils in the coach and school bus on day trips out, in the 1980/90s and on asking them what to play would choose my music as oppose theirs. Worldwide in terms of sales and concerts it is mainly, i.e. old artists of my time STILL making a great deal of money. Yes Taylor Swift is doing so, but as with Ariana Grande she too will soon be forgotten unlike the Beatles, Stones and Led Zeppelin music. On here, are more and more young KZbinrs expressing and showing disbelief in how good my music was - FACT! Second point - your comment 'new music' is a premise that what is produced to day, is music which more and more is certainly not, i.e. regurgitated sampled and computer generated NOISE where (and knowing people in the music industry) cannot read or understand the most basic components of music i.e. tempo, chords etc. I could go for ages destroying your INANE comment in a similar vein but as your comment shows such complete IGNORANCE and understanding, it would be lost on you, thus - I will revert to my working class background and simply state as is so much the case now, with what is in all ways the awful DIRGE that young people now have given to them - you are talking a load of BOLLOCKS !!!

Great version. Seen them do it live too. It reminded me of a great duo from Wales in or around the seventies who used to do it accapella in the folk style. They were Neil Lewis and John Luce, they became Welsh entertainer Max Boyce's backing band. Sorry bout the deviation UOGB keep on keepin' on...... always superb.

KZbin has algorithmically thrown up some random, random stuff that you can't help having a look at. Alot of times I never make it halfway and more often I'm out before the end but this offering has been a thoroughly enjoyable rabbit hole. I just can't believe it never arrived amongst the randomness until now, given that most of my searches are music related. My world is now enhanced by knowing that supremely talented singers and singers can take the humble ukele into musical territory that most would never imagine. Not only that, but they do so with humour and a connection with the audience, in a way that belies the many hours that must have gone into the arrangements and rehearsals. Bravo and thanks!

I can imagine the motley crue of the HMS Ukel Adie, pirate hunters, amusing themselves with this sea shanty after a long day service to the admiralty in defence if wayward cargo vessels for the EIC, a draft of grog, forlorning the embrace of some raunchy wench whose wiles would wisp the pursors's keys abaft, should he be into that sort if wicked debauchery. Excellent cover. Thanks for posting.
