As a 335 guy, I recommend you leave the cover on. Tendency for water to get in the plug/injector well and causes nightmares. Additionally, the injectors are incredibly loud and the cover does and excellent job killing the noise. But taking the roof off the house might be worth it.

Ivan, 2 comments: 1) I suspect the mouse is still in the car; owner should investigate further. That is possibly why the nest returned. 2) recall that you had at least one coil with corrupted wiring. Car may have has an intermittent misfire on that cylinder, dumping raw fuel into that cylinder. Would not take much to result in fuel contamination of the oil. Fuel contamination destroys the lubrication properties of an oil, so regular oil changes are a must (time OR mileage…twice a year regardless).

A lot of these case studies where cars break down unreasonably early is because the clients don't take their car on a nice long drive. If you are the kind of person that lives 10 minutes from their work and their grocery store and everything, go for an hour long drive once every two weeks or so, and do one wide open throttle pull from a stop to the speed limit to take the carbon off the valves and rings.

That's interesting.. but it doesn't explain why the intake signal looked perfectly fine before it could run the test.. and then after the test could run, it had that floating signal? Why would it only fail AFTER being tested? It's very strange. Unless the test purposely hits it with high current and causes it to fail if it's too old? IDK.. but it's very strange to catch the before and after fail signals like that.. What a coincidence.

Some things I have learned from eotking on German cars: Use a code scanner that can read all proprietary codes for all modules and can do adaptations/recoding. A generic OBD II scanner doesn't do much for you. Get a used oil analysis to check for engine wear. Change all fluids including brake tranny, and differental on aregular schedule.

This way I can turn it on or off depending on my needs. Around town and such I leave it off, on the straight highway I’ll probably leave the ECO on. Now knowing it doesn’t impact the fan cooling thresholds, I’m happy and it is wonderful having a smooth operating car.

Good diagnosis and video. I would suspect the sensors failed due to oil contamination caused by the petrol content. Very common on direct injection engines with very few oil changes. I would think its also affected the VANOS units. Not only does petrol in oil kill sensors, but also wet belts, ask Ford and Stellantis in Europe. By the way, modern BMW's now time out the brake pads regardless of how much material is left, and you can't just reset it as big brother knows you haven't changed the wear sensor...got to just love modern cars

I am not as good as you at doing this stuff but I am the guy in my area that figures shit out when no one else can. I have a 2009 328i and I took it to new motors BMW to get diagnostics. It needed catalytic converters. It is a SULEV Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle. It had 15 year 150k mile warranty. They ended up giving me a 7500 dollar estimate on my car. I asked about they warranty. Service advisor laughed at me. Well I'm outspoken and it took me to literally yell at these morons. He brought a paper down that was printed out by my vin number with all of the parts that were under coverage on my car. He claimed because the part numbers on his system were different that it was not covered. Guess what. They all were covered and they did 6k in work. They only replaced 1 cat. Claimed the other cat was corroded and corrosion was not covered. Even though the BMW warranty manual had a section in it which says what is not covered and corrosion is not listed. I said what BMW not design to drive on snow?

Car ‘over fuels’ ( old fashioned choke if you will) on a cold start up, and any excess fuel will cling to cylinder walls ( especially on failed start ups) and fall down past piston rings as it is less viscous than oil and end up in sump/oil, if you do not drive more than say 30-50 miles then oil is not gonna get up to such a high temperature as to vaporise off the fuel ( you call it gas🙄) that is now mixed into the oil.

@@Law_Abiding_Citizen_ok Why would a modern engine fail to start? I've never had one fail to start and never had one shut off while its cold on its own. Have to realize I've been driving for 50 years and also worked on cars way back when.

Because when the engine is cold, the cylinder walls are cold. Fuel condenses on the cold cylinder walls and washes down into the sump. GDI is worse for this as the fuel has less time to mix with the inlet charge, so there’s a higher chance of fuel droplets condensing on the cylinder walls.

If sensors are pull down type (they provide zero volts on signal line) and ecu is pulling the signal line up when sensor puts its output into high impedance then this might also be ecu or wiring (mice) problem. Way to check is to measure voltage on signal line with sensor unplugged, if there is 4.7V then sensor has nothing to do with that voltage level floating. So oscilloscope capture is good for showing to customer, but definitelly not 100% conclusive.

I'm guessing that whenever you run the car, they move to another hidden place under the hood. You can remove their nest, but they will come back.

"cause I value my mind".......LOL. It may take a few drive cycles along with fluid changes. It looks like both cam sensors are the same.

I can't remember the codes but I fixed one of these BMW. Previous shop had discarded part of the oil filter cap when they changed the oil. Customer had taken their BMW back to the same shop that ruined their previous cars engine. They had forgot to put oil back in their previous car.

These European cars require oil that meets their specifications which is not considered by some mechanics or European car owners I have serviced some late model honda crv that also have a problem with fuel dilution so on time oil changes are now even more important with these direct injection engines also valve deposits are an issue Using a good fuel additive periodically can help with some of these issues gumout and seafoam seem to work with my experience

In the Uk if a garage reset the oil interval to 5000 miles they’d never see another customer again! (Even though it’s better for the car ).

Mice leave a trail of urine, which in turn other can follow. After cleaning mouse nest use brake clean to try to eliminate the trail.
