Shine on You crazy Diamond RIP Syd Barrett. Pink Floyd founding member & guitarist
@an.american
@an.american Жыл бұрын
Shine on You crazy Diamond, a song written about and dedicated to founder member Syd Barrett. Syd departed from the band in 1968 after becoming mentally ill due to his excessive drug use. His mental health deteriorated to the point that it was affecting his ability to integrate with the other band members and create and perform as a musician. He was replaced by his former school friend David Gilmour who would previously on occasion be brought in as second guitar. Reaction ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Selection ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Apparently a guy wondered into Abbey Road studio at the time of recording this song and only after some minutes did the band realize it was Sid Barrett. He'd become bloated and had shaved his head

I've read that a married couple of German friends Syd stayed with for a while were feeding him LSD in his morning tea without telling him for an extended period of time - and that contributed HEAVILY to his mental deterioration. Though he may have had bipolar-type issues prior. TRAGIC story of an extremely talented man

Here is a little secret, Millie...thank you for this authentic reaction, by the way. Pink Floyd/David Gilmour always have put on a fantastic live performance, wherever they are. Each live performance is unique in its own right, there are no rules other than enjoyment of the piece of music written....compassion which is unique in its own right through the musical masterpiece set forth. This is why you need to explore Pink Floyd, David Gilmour, even Roger Waters, independently. The sound of Floyd transcends all boundaries. I'm not going to pick one live performance/song for you to check out next because whatever you decide will be fantastic, we promise. The catalog is vast, so prepare yourself for a musical journey of a lifetime....enjoy the ride. Thank you for exploring the best side of music with Pink Floyd!!!!

I can't believe that this is the first time you've seen a live performance by PF. Check out anything from the Pulse tour (there's 2 1/2 hours to choose from) as there isn't a bad song in it, but for me the highlights are Comfortably Numb, The Great Gig In The Sky, One of These Days, Keep Talking, High Hopes and Run Like Hell (the finale)

An absolute musical gem! By the way, the short-cropped blonde, one of the backing singers, is Clare Torry. Yes, the Clare Torry who sang the fantastic The Great Gig in the Sky in 1973 and on the album The Dark Side of the Moon.

PF are able to start with a really slow, minimal music and then build it into something great. This live version is trimmed down from the songs on _"Wish You Were Here"._ On the studio album _"Shine On You Crazy Diamond"_ is split into two songs. The first one opens the album and is over 13 minutes and the second closes the album and is over 12 minutes.

I guess this was the best live performance of Shine On You Crazy Diamond ever! Candy Dulfer did a perfect job playing the solo, It's a rare emotional expression with an Instrument like sax. I guess that she thought: "I'm playing with the creators of The Dark Side of the Moon, so I should play as If was the last time In my life!".

Maybe apart from Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd are the best live bands ever to experience. David comes alive when he is live. It is so lovely to see someone so young in awe of this great band. Millie, you have fantastic music appreciation. Sadly a lot of these rock legends are already dead, or will be soon, as we are all heading that way. I have not heard /seen you do any Prince music, which is so great. I know you will love it.

David is still performing. He last toured in 2016 but rumor has it he has been working on a new solo album so I’m hoping for another tour in a year or two. He will be pushing 80, but he is fit and somehow better than he was in this show (which happened during a rainstorm). Others will guide you to the Pulse concert in 94. Pompeii in 2016, or Pompeii in 1971 for that matter, will all blow your mind

The live caption at the 2016 edition of the Hellfest festival is really good. - "Des milliards" by Sidilarsen. Great reaction to an iconic band! As much as bassist/composer/lyricist/etc Roger Waters brought to Pink Floyd, I still feel that David Gilmour (guitars/lead vocals/composer/lyricist/etc) and Richard Wright (keyboards/all the rest that the others did too) were in many ways the solid core of the band that drove their successes. And, of course, Nick Mason on the drum kit working his own magic and looking so happy doing it.

Love me some Candy, she’s a monster, but original saxophonist Dave (or is it Dick? Can never remember ) Parry playing this out while holding and swapping 2 sax’s is an unreal experience. Sat front row center for “Pulse” in 94 and he literally blew us away. If you pull up “Shine On” live from “Pulse” you’ll see what I mean. That was my 5th and last time to catch them live. sorry but Pink Floyd are not likely to ever play as a band again. Keyboardist Rick Wright died in 2008 & David Gilmour & Roger Waters have a longstanding feud over creative differences & are not likely to share a stage. the song is about founding member Syd Barrett's mental breakdown a few years after the band formed. at the start he was Floyd's creative force, writing songs & singing them. then he discovered drugs, mainly LSD & Quaaludes which he took in heroic doses. he became more & more erratic, necessitating bringing in David Gilmour to replace him. Roger stepped up to write songs for the next few albums, largely influenced by the loss of Syd. paradoxically the loss of Syd led to Pink Floyd's wild success. eventually David stepped up too, leading to a schism in the band with Roger on one side & the rest of the band on the other which survives until the present. you can see the 3 surviving members each playing solo acts but with the possible exception of some very special event the 3 will never work together again.

Shine On You Crazy Diamond (which is on the Wish You Were Here album), is one of my favorite Pink Floyd songs, it's actually split into several parts, did you listen to the version: - Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I-V). I suggest you also listen to this: - Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts VI-IX). Shine On You Crazy Diamond is dedicated to Syd Barret, a former member and founder of Pink Floyd, who left the group in 1968 due to mental health problems, also caused by the excessive use of drugs. I'm enjoying your reactions to the music I was listening to in high school. If you are wanting to delve more into prog rock, I suggest reacting to early Genesis, something like the Firth of Fifth (from the Selling England by the Pound album) or Supper's Ready (off the Foxtrot album). Both are great examples of the prog rock genera, not as commercially well known as the Pink Floyd and Rush songs your have reacted to and prenominal musicianship from the likes of Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, Steve Hackett, Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford.
