If for, whatever reason, you don't want to hear about Matt's resplendent, full-bodied, glorious beard, and simply want the straight juice, he lists the seven ways at ~7:20. They are: 1. Listen to your opponent to understand what he's arguing for or against. 2. Define terms. 3. Don't be afraid to appeal to tradition and authority. 4. Be nuanced. 5. Don't use bad arguments because they support your belief. 6. Cultivate an apologetic habit of mind. 7. Love the person you're arguing with.

Hey Matt and Fr. Pine, quick technical note. Fr. Pine is using his Blue Yeti (microphone) on cardioid mode while having the front of the mic pointed downward. This is going to prevent his voice from being picked up properly. He should tilt the mic back so that the front of the mic is facing his mouth, and then set it off to the side just a tad in order to prevent the "plosive" P's and air noises. It will be a much higher quality that way.

he is nicely enjoying the side rejection quality if the cardioid pattern. he is as dumb technologically as he is about arguing.

Here are the timestamps for today's episode: 00:00 Intro 03:00 Interview Starts - Discourse on Beards 07:06 Episode Overview: 7 Things We Can Learn from Aquinas about How to Argue 08:24 Why should we look to Thomas Aquinas for this kind of advice? 10:08 What would Aquinas think of emotional arguments for God's existence ? 12:50 What would Aquinas think of the "Moral Argument?" 14:31 1--Listen to your opponent ! 17:05 Aquinas: Think collaboratively! Look after the Truth. 19:30 Where in the Gospels do we hear what Jesus Thought? 20:09 2--Define terms before you argue ! 22:29 Applying this principle to contemporary issues. 25:03 Don't correct people's definitions. That's not the point. 27:57 What do you believe, and why do you believe it? 29:28 Matt didn't know what a blessing is... and that's ok. 30:42 3--Don't be afraid to appeal to Authority/Tradition . 33:16 4--Embrace nuance in your arguments. 34:21 Seldom Affirm; Never Deny; Always Distinguish! 37:52 Seeking stability in the modern world. Beware of demagogues. 42:04 5: Don't use bad arguments because they support your beliefs. 46:27 Bad Arguments for God's Existence? 50:08 6--Cultivate an apologetic habit of mind 53:51 You don't need to convince other people, to be right. 54:30 Ask, "what's the most this proves?" 57:50 7--Love the person you're arguing with? Cliche? 1:00:51 Jason Evert: "Take a wholistic interest in the person's life" 1:03:54 "Godsplaining!" 1:05:09 Not liking great writers. (maybe Fr. Argumentation is part art and part science. Young philosophers are full of science but not much art, which comes with age and practice. One of my strategies is to find common ground as soon as I can.

Matt, for the sake of kissing, consider changing to "the whaler" for a beard. You basically cut off the mustache and leave the rest. It is a great marital compromise, and it helps with eating soup. Also as a recent convert this podcast has been so helpful in learning to explain my views with grace and love instead of just trying to prove others wrong or avoiding differences with my protestant friends. Thanks to you and everyone that helps put this all together, keep up the good work!

I think Sheen's point was that those who are more in the Ivan Karamazov territory of total rebellion against God are in the curious position of hating something they claim does not exist. Sheen told a story about a militant woman who was handing out atheist pamphlets in a church where he happened to be serving. When he approached the woman, who viewed him with complete scorn, he said the line about hating something that doesn't exist. The woman told him that she hated him as well, and stormed out. He had an uncanny ability of telling when someone was not arguing in good faith. But apart from that, you're right, it's a terrible argument.

@@vincent-antoinesoucy1872 wiki? During the Weimar Republic, Berlin was a liberal city with one of the most active LGBT rights movements in the world. Magnus Hirschfeld co-founded the Scientific-Humanitarian Committee (WhK) in Berlin and sought social recognition of homosexual and transgender men and women; with branches in several countries, the committee was (on a small scale) the first international LGBT organization. In 1919, Hirschfeld co-founded the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, a sexology research institute with a research library, a large archive, and a marriage and sex counseling office. The institute was a worldwide pioneer in the call for civil rights and social acceptance for homosexual and transgender people. Hirschfeld coined the word transvestite. In 1930 and 1931, with Hirschfeld's (and other doctors') help, Dora Richter became the first known trans woman to undergo vaginoplasty, along with removal of the penis (following removal of testicles several years earlier),[357] and Lili Elbe underwent similar surgeries in Dresden, including an unsuccessful ovary and uterus transplant, complications from which resulted in her death.[339][358][359][360] In 1933, the Nazis burned the Institute's library.[361]

Lol, argument is insufficient proof. If it was proof, it would be called fact. Therefore, all philosophical aka metaphysical “a priori” reasoning is an automatic fail
@chosenskeptic53194 жыл бұрын
Matt Blaise 🤔 I’m very factual and reject insufficient claims. FAITH scripturally, is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things unseen 🤔. Never said Jesus didn’t exist. But which Jesus? The misunderstood suffering servant of Mark? Or the multiple different competing theologies of Matthew and Luke’s demigod? Or the early churches theological fully god who’s all about himself in John? Or the fictional Jesus where all four Gospels shoved into one persona as propagandized by the modern apologetics of today ? 🤔 I met God a few times. When he wants you to know, you will know. But those blinded by the dumpster fire 🔥 of deceitful apologetic trash will never find the real Jesus. So God came to me, and asked me to write the truth. I said yes. Therefore, I don’t accept trash in my theology.
@masterchief81794 жыл бұрын
Chosen Skeptic My friend, I am afraid the “God” that appeared to you and made you come to Christian apologetics pages to claim everything Christian is false... Well, it is not “God”. Hope you realize it, because your obstinacy is kind of embarrassing. Your language is that you were “Chosen” in any kind of experience; your videos, many of them are denying the existence... Of Satan. Well, my friend. I am praying for you. From a Brazilian friend.
@chosenskeptic53194 жыл бұрын
Master Chief 🤔 your wrong, just because your biased personal incredulity doesn’t allow to accept God talking to me, is your problem. And that you need to take up your issues with God for that blasphemy. 🤔 and stop putting false words in my mouth claiming that I said everything in Christianity is false, so stop that dumpster fire of a lie now. And quit ignoring the question. Your the one’s claiming there is sufficient facts to know the real Jesus. WHICH JESUS ? Marks? Matthew and Luke’s? John’s? Or the apologetic own version of Jesus? 🤔 what is embarrassing is your inability to answer the question honestly, instead or redirecting with meaningless babble of embarrassment.
@chosenskeptic53194 жыл бұрын
Master Chief 🤔 first of all masterless chief, we are not friends. And secondly, save your prayers for yourself. Satan, according to scriptures is any adversary that opposes god’s will. 🤔 the Jew’s and Judas that betrayed Jesus did not sin, nor were they adversaries of God will. They fulfilled god’s will of salvation at the cross. As for sin, Adam did not bring it into the world according to Hebrew Scriptures. According to NT scriptures, Moses brought sin into the world with the Mosaic Covenant at Mt. Sinai. For sin is transgression against the Mosaic Law ... mic drop 😮

Chosen Skeptic That’s ok, my friend. Good luck for you.
