Piper Cherokee RC plane kit - Pt 7: Aileron Hinges - DB Sport & Scale

Aileron Hinges, is the 7th in a series of videos that take you through the unboxing and build of a 56" wingspan Piper Cherokee, a kit from DB Sport & Scale Ltd, in the UK. This is my first RC plane kit build in about 40 years, so a steep learning curve for me.

On larger models such as this, I prefer the Robart-type hinge pins. Using their drill guide, you drill just one hole per side, per hinge. A little countersink for the knuckle and your done, ready for glue. Or, you can top-hinge them and show a little knuckle for a really neat scale look. Dubro even makes mini hinge pins for smaller planes.

Hi Mark, on the Tiger Moth I had to create a taper on the leading edge of the aileron to allow downward movement. Was it pre-shaped on this kit ? Like the tip for cutting the slots for the hinges.

Alan Barnstable Thanks Alan, yes the downward moment was accommodated in the design, which I am sure would have been fine, although I did add a slight additional taper! Hahah, couldn't help myself 😀
